If we can add Foligno and Oleksiak...I call that a successful deadline. Would be ready to go into war for the Playoffs.

Hyman - Mathews - Marner
Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander
Foligno - Engvall - Simmonds
Mikheyev - Kerfoot/Thornton - Spezza

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Oleksiak - Bogosian
Dermott

I've been a Nick Foligno fan for years, but I'm not sure he does a lot at a high level anymore and I don't like the idea of adding another declining skater.

I think you can get a couple guys, on better contracts, that are potentially extendable post draft...

IMO, I'd take Alex Iafallo or Scott Laughton over Nick Foligno. Both are in their prime and neither is easy to play against. Both are superior skaters to Foligno. Neither is a super pest, but that actually isn't overly important to me. Both have more offensive upside at this point in their careers, IMO, and despite Foligno's age, I actually think he'd be more expensive than either of them because of his "value" to Columbus.

Oleksiak would be a nice addition. I'd also be happy with John Merryl from Detroit or Mike Reilly from Ottawa. I think all three players are an upgrade on Travis Dermott on a night-to-night basis.

Goalies?

If Freddy can't go ...not addressing the goalie position = fail no matter what F/D are brought in.

I like you acquisitions but I dont think Dermott is replaced in starting 6 as he is the better player. As for Foligno we wouldnt be acquiring him to be placed on the 3rd line. He would play in top 6 allowing Hyman to move down to 3rd to give us some checking and defensive play.

i agree on Foligno/Hyman but if Ole is brought in, he plays ahead of Dermott unless we are playing the Oilers, then its a tossup or we may even go 7 D because Ole can handle Drais physically, and no other player on our team can nudge him off the puck with any regularity

Only way he plays ahead of Dermott is if Dermott is not here. Dermott adds a two-way game that Keefe likes alot. Dermott and Bogosian have been better then expected and will not be split up. If a dman is brought in its not to replace our top 6 but to act as a security blanket in the case of injury or if we decide to play 7 D. Ole is not better for the style of play that Keefe plays with this team.

the style we play is modeled after the players we have ...any coach would want a better defensive dman with hulking size for the playoffs over a softer 2-way not 'great' on either side of the puck defender. Dermott is a solid player, but, excels at nothing. Ole has size and defensive ability, and its not like we are looking for (or going to lose) offense from Dermott.
and i'd mix the d this way
Reilly - Brodie
Ole - Holl
Muzzin - Bogo
the better skating Holl with Ole and we have 2 solid shutdown D pairs
a Ole - Bogo pairing would scare me for lack of speed

Not going to happen. Dermott has probably the second best skating ability on our D currently behind Reilly. His pass abilities for outlets are stronger and above average then most of our D. He gets a raw deal cause he's played low in our bottom 6. But this kid has the ability to play as decent as Brodie next to Reilly if given the chance at a fraction of the cost.

Im not saying that Brodie hasnt been a horse for the Leafs. And I love the acquisition. But if you placed Dermott with Muzzin on second pairing, he would do just as good as Holl in that spot.

Dermott is being underrated by many on this board.

eh brodie's definitely a better skater and Holl is at least as good if not better there too.

He has a 3.125 mill cap hit this year and is a 4th line quality player.

I have him still as a plus 4th line guy and good 3rd line fill in at worst even now, and in recent years was just a flat out good 3rd liner even borderline 2nd liner. Underrated imo.

But yeah even at $1.6 it might not be the best use of our remaining capspace.

still say he's a good player tho. unlike a liability like glendening.

Did he say what he meant to say or is this a typo by CJ?...

He didn't say "if", he said "that"

Edit: Watched the vid; was just poorly worded by CJ

is my wish list. Jenner too but I don't see that happening. Don't really care about the potential #7 as long as they are competent. Same with the goalie, just a healthy guy that can be close to Campbell's level. No Reimer or Bernier though, they have been through the mental washing machine here once, wouldn't be good to bring them in and have to join Freddy there.

People, Freddy is fine they are taking precaution with him and really there is no need to play him with the team going well with Campbell and Hutch. Why risk anything?

Is there really a problem resting a goalie and making sure he is 100% instead of rushing him back for games that dont matter yet?

We all noticed that Freddy has been struggling and coping with something. It definitely was something he could play through and he did. But it impacted his game. So why not rest it until 100%?

That is what they should do; believe that is what they are doing this time.
