Take a look around the league, who is NOT on the crazy train this week ?

Owen Sound -Degray
Guelph - Burnett
Erie- Brown/Butler
London - Hunters .
All senior league execs.
You listed 4 western conference teams...Saginaw is the alpha-dog this year because of hosting the Memorial Cup and who knows when we'll be in a position like this again. Soo and Kitchener also have loads of talent and Soo made a nice move for Hayes. The 4 you mentioned do have lots of years of experience but they also know that even if they make moves, it could be an uphill slide against Sag/Kit/Soo and so they're not willing to trade the future for an uncertain present.

Only problem is Erie should be cashing in on these crazy trades. They're not a title contender. Misiak is a 19 yo import who won't be back next season. They have 5 19 yo north American players, can only bring back 3 next year. Brown needs to make some moves.
Maybe there's no takers ?

Moving Mysiac would be tough .
A first overall import with so so numbers .

The Attack has an open import spot, but they'd have to move a 3rd or 4th line F and/ or 4, 5 ,6 dman and a couple picks .
Is that what you'd want ?

Yup.
Not trading just for the sake of trading .

Great deal for Oshawa, though Stewart was well liked with the locker room and fan base and will be missed.

Oshawa adding Lockhart and Punnett sets them up to do damage these playoffs in an open conference.

That being said, unless they add 1 or 2 more pieces, they are likely a 2nd round team right now

Oshawa has been the hottest team in the league over the past six weeks but this deal doesn’t make much sense because they’re not a Memorial Cup threat. I would have saved those picks for a run next year.

But with Branford giving up and selling their best player and Kingston buying a middling forward thinking they have a chance, you know the East is wide open.

Also, If Oshawa adds an experienced goalie for cheap to back up Oster (Krawchuk maybe) and brings in another 05 forward (Šalé perhaps) then Oshawa sees a window to go now. 24 hrs will tell.

I don;’t understand that one in the slightest. Is that the best value OA acquisition this year?
Oshawa needed a left shot defenceman. All but one are right shoots. I also think Connor Punnett is an upgrade on Thomas Stewart.

Anson Thornton and a conditional 12th dealt to Niagara in exchange for a conditional 15th. Another weird move

Often when there is a conditional 15th it usually means that the draft pick/s are upgraded if certain conditions are met. I expect if he reports and stays with them the draft picks will be upgraded.

That would make even LESS sense than the Stewart/Punnett trade.

Let’s think it through logically:

Bender might get three or four more starts the rest of the way. He won’t see the ice once the playoffs start. “Upgrading” Bender with Krawchuk isn’t going to make a difference.

If Oster gets injured, Oshawa’s season is finished regardless of whether they have Bender or a “cheap back up” like Krawchuk in net.

Long time viewer, first time caller. The Updates troll is the biggest homer in the league. I worked at the GMC/TCC for years and am actually a long time Gens fan but his view on things is absolute garbage. I'm too old to understand what a flex means. Your views however are usually more even keel.
I would say most people on these boards who speak about their teams are Homer's and bias to an extent but his knowledge and inside is no more extraneous than any other hometown fan.

As for the upgrades Oshawa has made this year ( McIntyre, Stewart out, Lockhart, Punnett in) he is no wrong in saying Hunt has done a phenomenal job making this team competitive these playoffs in an wide open conference.

Liam Sztuska would make sense as well
I don’t think that is an option for two reasons. Zach Bowen is out injured and we have only one card left. I think Easton Rye is on an affiliate card and if he became the backup they would have to use that remaining card on him.

With respect to HOMERS, I think pepole have more intimate knowledge of their home teams. It allows them to speak more intelligently about their own team and players but they lack the insight into the other teams which makes it much harder to draw comparisons. It is what it is.

I really like what Oshawa has done overall. A 3rd and 6th for Punnett is more valuable than what they’d do with a 3rd and 6th next year. Even if it gets them one extra home gate in the playoffs, it is worth it. That 3rd and 6th will not be the difference maker next year.

Regarding next year, I find it hard for any team to truly stack up to Mississauga. They are starting the season with a silly draft cupboard, two maybe three open OA spots and they return their whole team other than two decent OA’s that they will easily upgrade on next year. I think hey will be the frontrunner for Misa if/when he becomes available next deadline. Everyone else is likely a pretender. We may see teams like Oshawa and Kingston push assets forward one more year.

I think Mississauga is a clear number 1 for sure, especially their division but I see Oshawa/Brantford fighting for that No.2 spot in the conference next year. Oshawa has some draft picks to spare next year to make a push as well
Everyone is back next year minus the OAs so they are set up well. A lot can happen in a year.

For sure. I jsut feel the top of the Missy roster is more elite than the other teams. Additionally, those four 2025 2nds plus two 2026 2nds make a huge difference. Six 2nds over the next two drafts at the next deadline is a major difference maker when it comes to trades.

Brantford has the same but four of theirs are in the 2026 draft so not quite as valuable but still enviable for sure!

Oshawa is really far behind in draft picks. They could push the two 2024 picks ahead to 2025 but with 6 of the 20 picks being held by Missy and Brantford, it may be tougher!

EDIT:
I take that back. Brantford adding another two 2nds! Wow.
