Has anyone ever considered the hold up in the deal/announcement is to give Owen Beck a day or two to see family/billets/gather his belongings/ etc….

And has 0 to do with teams bidding

No one expected this window to open until Saturday. If there was a deal done and agreed to during the tournament, it would have been announced by this afternoon. Beck would still have had his time to take a breath in the same manner he would had Team Canada win Gold on Friday and the trade announced or leaked on Sunday. He’d have Tuesday through Friday to take a break. He’ll likely join his new team on Saturday if the trade is announced Today or tomorrow. If there is no trade, he will likely stay at home for the weekend.

I think as soon as there is a deal to announce, it will be announced. I don’t think it would stay quiet. It would leak. Someone would tell Jeff Marek or Sam Cosantino and they would leak it. I honestly feel that Oke is doing his final due diligence on offers and he figured he’d have until Friday night to complete his due diligence. I imagine he has the final offers in his hands now. It is likely a matter of him selecting one deal and/or finishing off minor tweaks. Then it would be a matter of clearing it with the league and getting other players to waive NTC’s etc.

If it involves Papineau, who knows….

Who’s all in on Beck? Has anyone heard any solid rumours for today?

Not since Marek said Soo was frontrunner, no updates at all. Believe that was Monday.

Well let’s see what the afternoon has in store for us…..

For that to be true, London pulled off a heavy upset and the Petes would have been beaten as well. I don’t think that is the case. I think there was a wide cross section of predictions of who comes out of the West last year.
You are well aware that I believed the ‘67s had a near zero chance of getting past battalion, colts, and Petes; and, I did not believe any of those 3 teams would beat the sting. But I did think it conceivable that the Knights or ‘67s could upset the sting.

Sometimes it’s about the matchup. I think it’s possible the sting would have smoked the knight roster if wearing a different jersey.

Yeah. I think if there is a deal by tomorrow afternoon, what I am saying is accurate. If it takes until next week, the offers haven‘t been submitted as final offers and teams are still hammering out the finer details and discussions are still happening.

Yup , I’m picking up what you’re putting down!

That’s a fair assessment. I can get behind that.

It still doesn’t address the issue of the Sting being the clear front runner In the same manner Hamilton was.

The reality is DelMaestro was not the clear best player available. Personally, I don’t think there was a clear best player available. We could argue that there weren’t a lot of D-Men available and that DelMaestro and Mintyukov were the clear top two D-Men. So, it is possible that the sting felt the ONLY player for them was DelMaestro. I could get behind that. But, the question still remains whether that was a reasonable compensation. Even you point to the fact that level of pick had not been traded in quite some time.

I still say it was a reckless trade. That said, the Sting were in a good position and they have been so inept at closing the door in the past. Maybe that pressure overrides rational thought.

The Peterborough deal should be announced today or no later than tomorrow morning based on what I am hearing. Don't think it will be the SOO though. I think it is done but who really knows.

Well, double rookie cohort; and Hamilton got MacTavish, then Xhekaj also chose Hamilton over 3-4 serious suitors. Would be serious buyers like Barrie just threw in the towel.
That was an anomaly. So was a top 5 pick being traded last season, I’ll admit.

But DelMastro-DelBelBelluz was as great a package as one team has ever traded. The Sting were loaded. DelMastro was by far the best D target for the sting. Import Mintyukov would be an after thought considering the sting had imports and puck movers such as Kyrou, Voit, & DelBelBelluz.

Refer to Sens-Leafs, Leafs-Bruins for less of a physiological edge than sting-knights

Again, all logical thoughts.

I now it is also more team specific So it isn’t always clear because what one team needs may not match what the perceived top players provide.

I don’t want to get into a discussion on this point but I would suggest Mintyukov was more impactful than DelMaestro and Morrison was a better centre at the OHL level and carried an OHL MVP from the previous season, so from my perspective, I think the 67’s acquired the best two player punch. Although, if we were to stretch it out longer, Othman, Beck and the combination of Hayes and White were the overall most impactful moves and I guess that was proven with their Championship win. I only point this out because I am trying to frame the argument that the Sting didn’t acquire the best players. Maybe the best players for them, but if we use the best players for them argument, that means they needed specific players as opposed to jsut outright snagging the best to put them over the top. They needed those two players to give them a Chance. The claim I am making is if you are going to trade a player like Martone, you have to be the clear leader prior to the trade. You are making that deal to seal the deal, not position yourself better. I think that is the clear distinction I am trying to make when I criticize the trade.

Martone is one of the most impactful players in the OHL right now as a 17 year old. Of course most knew he would likely be that player but many said the same about JVV and JVV is not on the same plane right now. I would accept the argument that you never know what the player would turn out to be but you know exactly what DelBel and DelMaestro were. I can also accept the argument that if that wasn’t the right time for the sting, what was the right time for that franchise? I can get behind the reasons why they did it. I feel like a more disciplined GM wouldn’t have done it, nor should they have done it.

That'd be a shock and a half. I couldn't even think of a hypothetical for them where they could pull that off. They certainly aren't trading O'Brien. I'd guess Sudbury snipes Beck away from their northern neighbors.

I have Sudbury as the front runner. I just feel that if Walton is the guy being offered, the Petes would do it. They love big kids with some skill and mobility. Walton is that guy. He truly fits the Petes mould. If it is not Walton that Sudbury is dangling, I am not sure there is a true fit for the two teams.

I don’t think it will be Saginaw. I think they will make more strategic and savvy moves. Sault and Sudbury are the two most logical destinations. I have Kitchener as the darkhorse. London is likely lurking on the fringes. But, would they deal O’Reilly?

O’Reilly would not be dealt. If they ever went big I could see a multiplayer deal but No one from the top 6 as they are needed now

Untouchables are

Sim McCue O’Rielly
Cowan Barkey Halttunen
Gazizov Julien

In that case, I can’t see London being a player in that auction. That’s not a bad thing. Sometimes there isn’t a solid fit and this is probably one of those situations. That is also why I said London was more lurking on the fringes and why I questioned whether they would move O’Reilly.

That said, if it were Beck plus another piece and the trade were bigger, maybe it would be more viable. Sometimes these trades have a way of working themselves out.

I am working on confirming before I have egg on my face. I dont want to outright say a team name until it's certain. Too many unchecked "for sure deals" get thrown out alot this time a year and I don't want to say "This team got Beck" until I know it's true.
Sounds like a newbie account trolling the HF boards for a reaction based on your wishwashy posts
