Don't you feel the mentor stuff is a bit irrational? We have coaches and trainers and skills coaches, these are professional athletes they don't need their friends around to play better. Motivation to play and improve in the NHL should be sufficient... I feel asset management with Savard should take priority over his chemistry with Xhekaj. It's not like this pairing is important to our future competitive performance, Savard won't even be here when the Habs next win a playoff series.
Unfortunately that's not how sports works and really never has. While coaching and training is great, the player to player interaction and learning from guys who been there/done that is invaluable. The key is to figure out when the young player/group is ready to move on from that and able to take the next step.

AX is flourishing with Savard. The question is do you want a better pick or do you want Xhekaj to keep developing with a good mentor
Which is better for the team in the long run?

TSN says it will be quiet day for Montreal. There is no timeline for any of the trades, don't have to be done today.

Pretty much expected by most I think.

No rentals that are worth anything. This summer and next TDL will likely be different.

That's not to say a Savard, Allen or Armia trade are completely impossible. Just unlikely.

Now imagine what Pittsburgh could have had for Malkin and Letang had they started rebuilding a few years ago like they should have instead of clinging to the past.
We had people protest at the Bell Centre because the Habs didn’t re-sign Kovalev. Imagine losing guys like Malkin and Letang. They all took hometown discounts too. I get why they kept them.

Something i would consider is buying Ullmark.

Allen + Harris + ?!?!

For Ullmark

What could we add to make it happen?

Entering next season with Dach, Roy with a full time job, Our youngster 1 years older and a tandem of Monty/Ullmark.

We would be in the PO imo.

Hughes was only going to trade Savard for a 1st, so it looks like he is staying. Bad year to be a seller. The return on Monahan looks amazing now. Maybe we can get a 4th for Allen with retention.

Why would the Bruins trade him? Right now, they have a potent 1-2 punch between the pipes. Ullmark beat the Leafs on Monday and Swayman beat them on Thursday.

We're not in a hurry to trade Savard, Hughes will not settle for a disappointing return.

TBH, Ullmark vs PLD is making sens for both teams. That would be a good trade
