If you don't know what being 'hard to play against' is you probably don't watch more than 20 minutes each game.

Maybe Ryan Reeves.

Ott has 3 goals all season.

King has 4 since December 1st.

These are not moves to get the 4th line scoring again, come on!

YES they improve the bottom 6. Pretty much everyone here, if you actually read the posts, is saying these are good moves in isolation. They are improvements to what we have at a low price.

But they are not improvements where there are improvements needed. At the end of the day a marginal improvement to grinders that play 10 minutes a night and score once per month isn't going to win this team any games, especially in the playoffs.

Lets wait until after the deadline to review Bergy's work. You can't critique a picture that isn't fully painted. After Bergy can't get a top 6 winger by the deadline then he's open to all the criticism he deserves.

Bergevin: You don't need a thirty goal scorer when you can get six 5-goal scorers

He's been painting this picture for years.
Has never shown the ability to focus on the actual needs of the team. Full of excuses, short on talent GM.

A hard team to play against that can score goals and has Carey Price in nets sounds good to me.

We've got 1 and 3, the day isn't over for Bergevin to add some scoring.

Not to be snarky here but #2 is by far the hardest ingredient to find in that recipe.
#3 was always there and #1 is irrelevant if #2 is still missing by the end of the day.

Habs can be a dangerous team if we can ware down opposing players with our size and physically, all we need is scoring to capitalize on the chances that will form and I think that is what Bergy realizes too.

Doesnt he lose his NMC if he waives it to be traded to Montreal?

No. If you already have a NMC in your contract before the trade, your clause comes with you. The only way his NMC doesn't travel with him is if he accepts to waive it and keep it waived. That is up to the player.

If a player is traded BEFORE a NMC or NTC kicks in, the team acquiring him can take the option not to honor it. That's what happened with Subban.

Be serious.

MB just made his bottom six bigger, stronger, and motre experienced for the long run.

Don't use big words without understanding the meaning behind them. I am dead serious. We only have three players scoring at a ppg pace over .5. Arranging the rest of the team is indeed trying to field the least impotent lineup on team full of impotent scorers

Because with Galchenyuk manning the first line C spot, the rest of the lines will be occupied by guys who can't score.

X-Galchenyuk- Radulov
Pacioretty-X-X

Or Paciorety-X-Radulov
X-Galchenyuk-X

Our second line is wide open for bottom sixers to fill up. That's why Byron and Shaw have seen time in the top 6. There is no reason to not expect King or Ott getting some time up there.

What? The playoffs is when these acquisitions are going to pay off the most! It's not just goals either, it's being good shut down guys.

Also, you admit they are improvements, but in the very next sentence you say they are not improvements where improvements are needed? So, you agree they improve our bottom 6, but you just didn't want to see the bottom 6 improved?

That was my understanding of NMCs. If you waive it to be moved, the new team is no longer bound by it.

Not exactly the same situation, but Subban's NMC was set to activate on July 1st but since he got traded to Nashville he lost that clause.

Go tell that to the team that wins 16 games in May and June.
There is a reason some very talented teams are unable to win back to back in this current NHL.
Because it takes toughness and mental fortitude along with some luck.
So yeah there are ways to wear teams down in seven games and talent but alone won't do it.

I've got no fundamental problem with making the team tougher to play against.

That said, I believe that should only be a priority when the team has a solid foundation and the talent level justifies it. What good is a tough team if they can't score and win games?

We don't need to worry about building a back to back winning team, let's worry about building a playoff team that can win a round first. That starts from the top two lines down, not the other way around.

Are people actually going to be happy if Bergevin's next (and final) move is Vrbata? I don't expect anything else at this point.

I'm not sure. You may be right on this.

You gotta wonder how much he relied on Therrien's input?
This TDL has a different feel to it for some reason.

I get making the team tougher, but scoring is key to winning....

package a deal and get MD, nuff said

These guys will make out top six better, because they gonna have an intimidating effect on the opponents. I am sick and tired to see the habs out-hit every single game.

Habs needed bigger bodies to compete against Washington, Columbus, Ottawa, Florida, etc...

MB is giving to CJ exactly what he loves: a defence-first type of team who can bang bodies all over the ice.
