Not saying it must be overpaid but it needs to make sense.

Like that rumored Habs deal or Nemec +12OA. Both are unknown deals bc the players coming back are either have not played in the NHL or only started.

If Knies for Byrum, that’s a great trade on both teams esp the Leafs bc Byrum showed he can be a top pairing D in the league and at worst a No.3.
Leafs can’t trade Knies for a lottery ticket.
When has Byrum shown he can be a top pairing dman? If the Leafs are trading Knies for Byrum it better come with a lot of +'s

Gavrikov replaces Rielly, and we get younger
Trochek replaces Tavares at 2C and we get younger and faster at C

5OA should yield a top end D, that is 18 and makes us younger for years. Also younger than Knies.

This would actually make us younger overall.
It also would make this team... really good

There's just been waaaayyy too much smoke around Knies being dealt now for me to not believe they're actively open to the idea.

If they weren't, they'd come out and say "We aren't trading our young player, end of story" but that hasn't happened.

Winning the lottery and the #1 guy being a LW'er changes so much, because we're now left with all our best young players playing the same position, one that is arguably the least valuable on a hockey team while we have holes going forward at C and D.

I would. Also the Rangers rebuilding doesn't strike me as a team that would trade #5 anyway.
Rangers rebuilding??
They have 5 terrible contracts locked in long term on aging players.
Retooling, not rebuilding unless they blow everything up this offseason & retain cap.

39.250M = 38% of there caphit
+ Trochek = 44%

Also people considering Trochek in a deal with Knies are out to lunch.....he cost more then Tavares, sure he's a bit younger but John is more consistent.....if Trochek is on the market we should consider moving Tavares asap.

Disagree, he's not that bad.

There's some work to be done on his defending, but with Hughes and Hamilton there, there isn't a lot of chance to shine in an offensive sense, which is primarily what he should be played as.

Is that a deal for Knies, clearly not for you, but skilled 21 year RHDs aren't the most common commodity in the league, so NJ has the right to ask for value back.
He's sheltered and his defensive stats are absolutely ass. He wants more than rielly money. It's not a good deal whatsoever.

The only way JT moves is if he asks for a trade. The guy is an absolute pro and gave the organization such a sweetheart deal. He isn’t moving anywhere, whether that’s the right or wrong move.

They just started the process before the deadline. It takes time to dismantle some of the work done over time.

And yes I agree, Trocheck makes no sense for a Knies deal at all.

They probably shouldn’t. But I’m not doing a hockey trade, I’d want a win if you want Knies.

If they refused 5, I’d ask for Laf instead.. happy to walk away.

The pieces are just not good enough when the #5 pick is the most attractive piece by a mile. Trocheck is turning 33 in less than a month. Gavrikov adds a low end skill element and will be 36 or 37 by the end of his current deal. I don't understand what this accomplishes short-term and long-term the #5 pick I guess is nice. Sure it's a win I guess, but not a very good one to me.

It was a lot but it wasn't a King's ransom. Couple of bottom 6 wingers and a couple of late-1sts. For a guy with a career high 37 points. Knies is MUCH more established now than Hagel was then.

At the time it was considered a pretty big return. Hagel's value was in his cap hit, and he just outplayed that value tenfold. Katchouk and Raddysh were over a PPGs in their final AHL season and had done decently well in their short time with the Lightning. Both just never progressed.

"The Chris Johnston Show (May 28): On New Jersey • Even if the report on Simon Nemec asking for a trade was false it doesn't mean he won't be traded. He will be looking for a long term contract similar to what Luke Hughes signed for.

Luke hughes signed for 63M for 7 years 9aav.

FUUUUUUCK that.
Ambitious.

He's not going to get that, though.
