GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I agree. Either Reid or Carels plus a top 6 center (around 20 years old) plus McKenna would be great foundation for this core and the next. You only get so many times everything aligns. 1st round picks for the next 2 years wouldn’t matter as much. You could draft this year and next and not come away with those 3 prime pieces as you can right now.
This kind of move helps now, helps in the future imo.

Nobody had deals made with Philly and TB until they actually happened. I like how Chayka is going about his business. No one needs to know anything; just let him work.

I personally do not want to get rid of Reilly. I think Berube stunted his abilities no differently than the rest of our offensive players. A team should never trade an asset when its value is at an all-time low. If the Leafs can trade Reilly or Carlo by all means do it. As long as it upgrades the team. But I am down for a defence built as such:

OEL-Raddysh
McCabe-Tanev
Reilly-Carlo

It is better instantly if Tanev can stay healthy, add Raddysh in Benoit's place and you have improved your D from last season. Add in the new kid as depth the Leafs have done good.

Remember Matthews and Nylander wanted better puck movers on their D. Adding Raddysh and kid did that. Removing Reilly you best puck mover from the backend contradicts the ask and want. Especially when its for pennies on the dollar.

I think the Chayka comments about Rielly for example are a smoke screen, I don't take them at face value.

In terms of if it actually happens? No, I don't want to see Morgan Rielly back.
Ah, pulling his best Jesse Marsch impression?

I too do not want to see Rielly back. Problem is, everyone else has seen him play, everyone else has access to his underlying numbers. We might have to hope for a resurgence under a new coach and playing style... do not hold your breath.
