GDT: Trade and Free agent Rumours thread | Chayka off-season edition

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Mathews isnt going anywhere and will sign a extension here. Book it.

He isnt going to waive ....like Nylander. They will be here for awhile. They love Toronto.

We heard fans scream that our GM is listening to 34 and 88 about direction and coach and then same fans want to trade them. Too funny.

If the coach did listen to them , then why would he trade them?

Typical fans trying to get rid of our elite players. I hope they retire here.

We just signed a 30 yr old player to a 8 yr contract. We are not rebuilding here. We changed directions in systems etc and are just retooling because Tre and Berube set us back years with their bogus DNA change crap that the mediots and fans ate up.

We are going to draft McKenna, Rielly may be traded (which is good) , We will get players back healthy.

This will be a playoff team again. :)

JMHO :)
and if they continue not to have success in the playoffs? next 2 years, 3,
Another coach? another GM ?

Correct, Matthews will be here for at least the next 4 to 5 years.

Dreger the great Speculator... I want people on Twitter and youtube and everywhere to please call him out. I sat next to an NHL scout once who said he hated him and what he's doing for the media here... I can see now why he said that 15 years ago... He makes stuff up half the time
Johnston has done far more damage with the crap he makes up.

With all this talk of movement on the blue line, is Danford ready to make a jump next year or does he need another year on the Marlies?

For the first time since the Treliving hire, I am optimistic, and looking forward to some much needed chaos
It’s a promising start. Every new hire starts with small little moves which makes things look good. So far Chayka has been paint by numbers. We all knew a goalie was likely to move and Raddysh was set on signing here. The first overall was icing on the cake. Now the real work begins. It still looks a long way away from legitimate contender.

even if we assume new coming in is Tuch and Bob at approx 16 million in cap space the Leafs would be left with 6.5 mil in space with Domi on LTIR. They are not that tight against it. I still see the Leafs not offer a QO to Macelli and Roberston but I said that months ago. Neither is worth the cap hit they would be at.

Something to consider:

Mattias Maccelli at even strength this year:

71 Games Played, 12:50/game. 12 Goals, 31 Points.
Macelli picked up another 8 on the powerplay playing 1:44 per game.

Mason McTavish

75 Games Played, 13:11/game, 11 goals, 30 points.
McTavish picked up another 12 on the powerplay playing 2:02 per game.

One of them has a $7m contract that will land a pretty massive haul. The other is a "questionable qualifier" at $4.5m???

Ideally he starts with the Marlies and is a first call-up depth defenseman.

But I'm not joking here that I think he can do so much better than Carlo did with us. He skates, he's got flair and he's solid defensively. But he's light.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

I think he will be a player for us in the future for sure.

I think its telling that OEL hasn't been mentioned once since Chayka's been GM. Lets not forget he attempted to build Arizona around him. But yeah, if we trade those 3 the defense is in need of some serious upgrades.

OEL-Raddysh
Andrae-Tanev
Rifai-Villenueve

Woof lol

That is pretty awful indeed. I think it's safe to assume they'd be adding other players if they make those kind of changes. I'd wait until the vision is set before criticizing, but it's hard to see it right now.

Agreed. Chayka hasn't really shaken the tree, as of yet, but to re-make the team in the image he described, foundational changes are necessary. Hoping we're able to make it shake the next few days

I think it would be a mistake to trade McCabe. Eventhough he is getting older, he has qualities that every contending team needs, and he is signed to a good cap-hit for the next few years. Him and Tanev are a great shut-down pair for us. Rielly and Carlo on the other hand should be moved, along with guys like Maccelli.

Decisions made this week are going to impact the next few years of watching this team as a fan. Please don't do anything stupid.

Maybe Chicago is looking to over pay for another Dman. They are most likely moving one of Del Mastro or Korchinski. If I had my choice I take Del Mastro as I think he has all the tools to be a solid 4 type.

Sure those guys can be targets as potential guys but the Leafs want to make the playoffs. Not sure trading McCabe to add Del Mastro accomplishes that right away... Maybe I'm wrong.

McCabe should get an insane huge haul though. So maybe they plan on chasing a guy like Werenski and/or Parayko... I don't know.

There's no way you can move all of McCabe, Rielly and Carlo and somehow expect to have a competitive defense next year, unless Chayka has some sort of other magic up his sleeve that we don't know about.
