i would recommend being patient with Kase. Dude basically missed 2 seasons. He needs a good 20-30 games to regain form, and from what I have seen he is taking strides and looking better, quicker, faster. I would suspect in another 15-20 games or less he will start driving line production.
its not that, its his Marner caliber shot.

Still pissed we gave up Marchment for next to nothing. He'd look real good rn. 7 points and very physical. Our depth has been a huge issue.
doesnt mean he'd be able to do that here... players sometimes work better elsewhere. ...i remember the tears for, and desire to get back Leivo, but, he sucked when we gave him away, and he sucks now.
he'd have a good game here and there, but, thats all he is/was and Marchment is no different, though I did want to see him on the squad for his play style, but, he'd be on our 4th line regardless, and who would he beat out?

Andrew copp , and Bryan rust are two potential ufa targets.
There are some very good Rfa's as well, including Kubalik, Kempe, Mangiapane, Fiala, Greenway, and McCann.
We would need to shed all the wasted cap but its doable to snag one or two of these players.

How would we know unless you gave him a shot. I understand the situation was different when we traded him and gave him an opportunity. Should have at least gotten a draft pick instead. Just seeing success of him and many others we've traded while our depth is trash for secondary scoring and impact on offence.

If we're looking to move Holl/Dermott out and get decent value I wonder if we'd try to add a different type of player to play with Sandin on the bottom pair.

Ilya Lyubushkin and Jani Hakanpaa (provided the Stars keep struggling) would be decent adds.

Both guys are struggling mightily this year but have also had more defensive zone starts than ever on bad teams. If you could end up net positive on assets to use elsewhere and take the $750,000 in cap savings I would be okay rolling this:

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljegren
Sandin-Hakanpaa
Lyubushkin

You still have guys like Menell/Kral if you need a puck mover.

Ondrej Kase is brutal. At full health I'd be waiving him over Engvall. Engvall is a much better player at this point.

He's been fine? The lack of scoring is annoying but he's not going to stay at 0% shooting percentage. He's probably been our best forechecker... he's fearless.

Him and Kampf are exactly what people want out of a "shut down" line. The scoring will get there... hopefully. But they consistently have really good shifts.

Yes Marchment but also Verhaghe and Johnsson.

Floridas team is deep, if they acquired a rental Top 4 D, They are probably cup favorites. Pretty crazy how they built that team around Barkov, Ekblad and Huberdeau. Weeger was their diamond in the rough draft pick. Besides that their team is full of other teams scraps and there all performing amazing.

He's getting something like 87% D zone starts. That's crazy hard usage. I get that folks can be frustrated by the lines lack of offense l, but they're doing the heavy lifting so the other lines can get more ozone time.

The only person deserving somewhat of a gripe right now is Ritchie, and even then it is too early.

That 3rd line will probably only end with 25-30 points each, but when they are mostly responsible for defense, that is more than fine.

He's fast and he is useful defensively and on the PK. But, he just doesn't bring enough offensively and he doesn't provide any physicality to his game. He kind of reminds me of Matthew Lombardi in his Toronto days. Not what he once was. Plays go to die on his stick.

If I had to pick a forward to lose it would be him. He makes the same as Engvall, they could waive him instead at no extra cost.

He's been one of one our best non-top 4 forwards... so that seems like the wrong decision.

Kampf first. His offense is so bad it negates whatever defense he offers and absolutely kills his linemates. He lacks NHL puck skills and is substantially inferior to Freddy Gauthier. The club desperately lacks balanced scoring yet they give the prick 14:25 a night. Slight chance he can help them in a 4th line role but his one dimensional game isn't helping the team right now. Kase is Ovechkin compared to this guy.

Do people even watch hockey?

Kampf and Kase have been our best forwards outside of the big 4

He's able to play bottom 4 D, super underrated and numbers aren't pretty on a bad Yotes team but I think would be an appreciated add, possibly able to play with Muzzin and keep the Sandin-Liljegren pair together.

He is trending towards a 6pt -30 season. That's nothing close to any regular in a contenders' lineup. It wouldn't normally matter with such a small game sample but this is all he's got. The Hawk's board liked him well enough but were quick to say he is a 4th liner. His proven track record is ECHL offense and that won't change even if the eye test says he looks like he is getting things done.

Kerfoot has easily been the best. He is coming as advertised right now. Bunting and Spezza have provided more offensive value, but can't deny Kampf and Kase have been solid too.

That just leaves Simmonds, Ritchie, and Engvall. I would say Ritchie is the only one who is not living up to expectations right now, and if he continues to play like he did against Philly, even that won't be a problem.

He is trending towards a 6pt -30 season.
Kampf gets 1.8% of his starts in the o zone (lowest in the league)
Kase gets 2.4% (T2nd lowest)

those stats INCLUDE dmen

what the heck do people expect, they are quite literally playing the hardest minutes in hockey. They are both playing excellent so far, especially Kase. If they were producing in those minutes they would be the easiest lock for a Selke trophy ever. Like this qualm doesn’t even make any sense, theyre even > 50% in Corsi while doing it.

People want a shutdown line, we get one, they hate it. People want cap friendly d depth, we get it, they hate it (Holl, Dermott are good in their roles guys). People really want physical players, we get them, they HATE that them (Ritchie, Simmonds, Bunting).

It’s ridiculous.

The Engvall - Kampf - Kase line has 1 ES GA, a 55.3 SF% and 54.2 CF% playing some of the toughest minutes in the league. Sample of > 100 minutes played.

They are literally the best shutdown line in the league right now.
