Could be cap gymnastics

Maybe but I feel like those aren't announced by Leafs PR the majority of times. For example last week Liljegren was sent down and other player were up as a paper transaction for a couple days which was never tweeted by Leafs PR.

I think this is a perfect opportunity to give Semyonov, Anderson, etc some NHL games to see what we really have. Might make a decision on a trade a little easier.

Would like to see both of these players get some opportunities to play

Ritchie and Engvall can easily come out of a game and nothing will be loss

I think you have to see what you have in your system. Lilly has been given an opportunity and he is running with it

Why not try the same approach with others?

Anderson should be able fit in nicely with Spezza and Semynov with Kamp/Kase

I can't say I was a fan of the Ritchie contract either, that 2nd year is a real problem if he doesn't perform this season and it's enough money to actually matter

Id be keen to get as many prospects on the team as possible next season, they help the cap and give us guys who haven't been tortured with our previous history

I'm ok with Mikheyev pricing himself out of the market, he's a decent defensive player but he hasn't really produced offensively since the wrist injury

I think Engvall can do that at a far lower price point

Engvall needs a kick in the ass way too often. He does well, tails off after 4-5 games...gets scratched...becomes amazing for 1-3 games...repeat.

More or less yep. I think Spezza is one that probably could benefit of resting. He's been great but I think the plan originally was for him to be used sparingly. I think he'd be down for it. Maybe sit out Engvall for a game as well since he tends to need a kick in the butt sometimes (keep playing Ritchie so that he builds value... pray that he does).

Ritchie - Kampf - Kase
Simmonds - Semyonov - Anderson

A lot of speed on that 4th line. Maybe switch Ritchie with Kerfoot if he doesn't fit with Kampf and Kase. Either way, this gives you a decent look at your depth options. If Anderson comes in and plays with a lot of energy or Semyonov, etc... maybe Engvall becomes a little more tradeable whereas right now you might be skeptical being able to replace him fully.

The 3rd line works so I don't really care what he needs, if it ain't broke don't fix it

I'm against moving Kerfoot down the lineup, that line is rolling so putting Ritchie back on it after he was demoted and that line struggled badly doesn't make much sense to me

If it was me I'd put Spezza on the wing, bring Semyonov into center and bench Ritchie, I don't care how much your paid if you aren't performing you shouldn't play

Ritchie What’s up with this guy not fighting not hitting not scoring I was happy when he was signed not anymore did Boston no something we don’t he’s been completely useless

The grass isn't always greener on the other side.

His lines been great. They keep getting chances and will start to score some soon enough. Feel like our bottom 2 lines could possibly be more effective if they switch Engvall and Ritchie. Ritchie and Simmonds are both guys who like to be in front of the net are most effective there so having them on separate lines is probably for the best.

The 2018 draft was before the signing of Tavares and my hope was the team would draft a potential 2nd line centre type. With the 25th pick I was looking at guys like Kupari, Lundestrom, Veleno, McLeod, Thomas, Wise and McBain. Obviously happy with the Sandin pick, but I've always kept my eye on McBain since. Would be a great move I think.

McBain 3C next year and move Kampf to 4C.

What is the standard NCAA contract now? Isn't the max dollar amount the same no matter which team you'd choose to sign with?
I'm pretty sure it would be a normal ELC. May be 2 years instead of the normal 3.

He wouldn't be a candidate to sign once his season is over as he is drafted by Minnesota. He could only sign with them. He could wait until August 15th and use that loophole to become a UFA a la Vesey. He's currently in his 4th year at Boston College.

  • Maximum Salary $925,000
  • Signing Bonus: Limited to 10% of maximum salary or $92,500 (included in salary)
  • Type A Bonus: Maximum $850,000 ($212,500 per individual bonus) for such performance based qualifiers such as ice time, goals, plus/minus
  • Type B Bonus: Maximum $2,000,000 for league performance awards (example: top 5 post-season awards) per season
  • Theoretically, a player could earn total compensation of $3,775,000
Now it's improbable that such a player would earn such bonuses on our team anyway. If I were Dubas, I'd be finding out what his intent is, to sign with Minnesota or... find out if there is any interest in Toronto. We don't have much in the way of picks this year, but I'd be willing to send them something, if there is mutual interest. He'd be a solid add down the middle, if he pans out.

Honestly, I've never seen the guy play, but when his name came up, I read plenty about him... The only question mark, I didn't see answered, that was a question at draft time was his skating... the first few steps of acceleration.

He's leading the team in hits.

Yeah, he, Spezza and Simmonds have formed a really nice fourth line. Simmonds & Ritchie seem to build off each other with the hits. Just because they aren't open ice, highlight reel hits, doesn't mean they aren't there.

My only issue is that Ritchie is being paid 2.5M to do what Simmonds does for 900K (or whatever the cost is).

With Mrazek on the LTIR, Leafs opened up cap space and recalled Semyonov and Anderson.

If they play and impress... could get interesting.

Keefe rarely if ever plays call ups in place of a guy in the lineup. Maybe he would sacrifice Engvall, but that’s about it.

You mean like he did with Sandin over Dermott last season?

Most coaches wouldn't and I agree but I do think it's likely the Leafs want to give a rest day to certain players and give a game to a call-up or two.
