I have no faith in either of them, Ritchie doesn't score enough and he never has and Mrazek has always been injury prone
What an amazing turn of events they are still exactly that

So let's just get this straight, we move Kerfoot who's currently playing very well in our top 6 and fairly paid and can cover center in case of injury because our GM screwed up so badly we have 6M in bad contracts we cant move without assets attached to them and desperately need the cap space to fit Rielly and Campbell?

**** me, if this is correct the ineptitude is something else

There is more to it than just market price too.

Moving Ritchie won't save us enough cap space regardless. I think Ritchie will turn it around, and he could be sold for a great return, but we'd still need to find more cap space unless we can somehow save the 1 mill difference in cap between him and Kerfoot in another way.

If you move Mrazek, you are still paying a similar or greater price to find a guy who can chew up 40 games at his usual standard of play, and we will want a guy who can do that. If we cut 1-1.5 mill from his cap hit, we may get a great 2A, but that guy probably can't play more than 25-30 games. Campbell's career high in the NHL is 31 games, and he has been injured in the past... We need someone who can be more than just a 2A.

Moving Kerfoot saves us enough cap space and we can turn to a guy like Robertson to replace him a lot easier than we can turn to a guy like Woll to replace Mrazek. Or even in UFA, there are a lot more middle 6 players available for a cap hit around Ritchie's (and then you replace Ritchie with a guy like Robertson) than legit 1B's who will cost less than Mrazek.

Love Bunting
I don't think he fits with Matthew's and Nylander.

Bunting Taveras Marner

? Mathews Nylander

Would like a heavy player that can go in the corners to get the puck , go to the net and can pass the puck .

Kerfoot is not a fit
Ritchie doesn't have enough skill
Maybe Mik ?

Or trade kerfoot and find such player

The player you are describing sounds a lot like Bunting TBH... Unless you want it in a 6'5" package, in which case you want Ritchie or maybe Simmonds.

Ritchie deserves another chance with linemates who aren't sucking in the top 6, and he would fit that description to a tee. If you want a more skilled version of Ritchie, you would somehow need to find at least another 3.5 mill in cap space, because you won't find a top 6 caliber guy like that for less than 6 mill.

I personally don't think there is anything wrong with any of our LW's. Other than getting Ritchie back into the top 6, they are all filling their roles extremely well.

I like Bunting with them but he can't seem to find Matthew's, .
Bunting is great in the corners shooting and going to the net love this players.
They probably need more time to figure things out.

Keep an eye on Niemela, Kral and Steeves for next season
I wouldn't be surprised if they were close to ready, Steeves may be ready in the back half of this season if his AHL play continues

Also when I look at that roster and get to Ritchie and Mrazek I see a lot of money that could be better spent elsewhere

Also if Liljegren and Sandin keep this up they may make one of Muzzin or Brodie expendable like they have already done to Holl

I completely agree. 4.5M into Ritchie and Holl right now is bad. I've been pretty against the Ritchie from day 1. There is a lot of time between now and the off-season, so who the hell knows. Maybe Ritchie goes on a tear and finishes the season with 20 goals... do we keep him then? Probably right? It's probably impossible but... I've seen crazier things happen.

We need to give these young guys a shot and keep them up if they play well. It feels like there's going to be an influx of top prospects joining the org... so it might be a fun training camp. From Robertson to Amirov to Niemela, and then Steeves, Anderson is still kicking, Kokkonen, Kral, etc.

The big x-factor will be Mikheyev to me. I have no idea what to expect on his next contract.

Somebody mentioned it on a previous page but Jack McBain may be an interesting NCAA free agent target in the summer.

Toronto boy. 6'4 centre playing for Boston College. Drafted 3rd round by Minnesota in 2018. Lacklustre first three years in the NCAA but now has 14 points in 10 games as a 4th year player. If Minnesota doesn't sign him he will be a UFA in August 2022.

Jordan Harris is also a free agent in August if the Habs don't sign him this upcoming off-season.

Robertson
Dermott
Kerfoot/Mikheyev
1st 2022 (Top 10 Protected)
2nd 2023 (Becomes 1st if we make it to the 3rd round or 3rd if we dont make the playoffs)

Build around:

Rielly - Chychrun
Sandin - Liljigren

This is likely what you want to see going into the playoffs;

Bunting-Matthews-88
Kerfoot-JT-Marner
Soup-Kampf-Kase
Ritchie-Spezza-Simmonds

Muzzin-Brodie
Rielly-X
Sandin-Liljegren
X

Campbell
Mrazek

Solve for X

Manson, Lybushkin are 2 names to consider beside Rielly.

The spare doesn't matter much, even Biega could be that guy.

Trading Holl to Seattle for Lauzon and a pick saves us 1.2 million in cap and nets us a draft pick and a capable defender.

Dermott+Mikheyev or Dermott+Ritchie traded as a package for an upgrade might help fill an upgraded winger role which can see Bunting shifted down to play with Kase and Kampf.

Semyonov/Ho-Sang can get some reps on that 4th line with Spezza/Simmonds.

Lots of possibilities.

If I'm Arizona, I ask for Robertson, Amirov plus two unconditional firsts at the very least. That contract Chych is on for the next 4 is a bargain.

I can't say I was a fan of the Ritchie contract either, that 2nd year is a real problem if he doesn't perform this season and it's enough money to actually matter

Id be keen to get as many prospects on the team as possible next season, they help the cap and give us guys who haven't been tortured with our previous history

I'm ok with Mikheyev pricing himself out of the market, he's a decent defensive player but he hasn't really produced offensively since the wrist injury

I think Engvall can do that at a far lower price point

The 2018 draft was before the signing of Tavares and my hope was the team would draft a potential 2nd line centre type. With the 25th pick I was looking at guys like Kupari, Lundestrom, Veleno, McLeod, Thomas, Wise and McBain. Obviously happy with the Sandin pick, but I've always kept my eye on McBain since. Would be a great move I think.

I think Kubalik from Chicago would be a perfect fit with matthews.

Kubalik Matthews Nylander
Bunting Tavares Marner
Kerfoot Kampf Kase
Mikheyev Spezza Simmonds

Mo Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren
Sandin Dermott

Campbell
Mrazek

Holl, Ritchie, Engvall moved out for picks.

I think Kubalik would be a good target as well.
