His body of work wasn't even that bad, just marred by two moves fueled by desperation highlighting an inability to evaluate goalies.
And the funny thing is, Toskala wasn't that bad in SJ, and he wasn't bad his first couple of years in Toronto. For whatever reason, he fell off a cliff.

Honestly, there isn't much worth looking at there are tall. There are reasons that these guys aren't signed.

Zajac is just not effective anymore.

Demers doesn't bring anything we don't already have. Vatanen wasn't very good last year, NJD couldn't trade him, ended up putting him on waivers.

Ryan is done. Galchenyuk we've seen, and at minimum he's worthy of being bench depth. Gusev has offensive upside, but again, not the type of player that would add to what we already have.

Hutton brings some size to the D, but given he was in the organization last year, and for whatever reason, they have no interest, or he doesn't... tells you everything you need to know.

It's basically the unwanted players pile, and nobody adds anything to what we already have.
Honestly, the only guy I'd even look at in there is Galchenyuk, and simply because we know he CAN play with our group of players...

not to mention, feels like at this point his ask can’t really be more than 750k. That’s good value for depth

JFJ drafted Rask, Kulemin, Reimer, Frattin, Tlusty, Holzer, Gunnerson, Komarov, Stalberg, Stralman

Most of these players were drafted without having high draft picks with exception of Tlusty

He will do well in Phoneix. He doesn't have Peddy to call his shots or Pat Quin who was power hungry to deal with

JFJ definitely drafted a number of future NHLers in his time as Leaf GM. Unfortunately, not enough of them were of upper tier quality. Pair that with a significant lack of playoff berths and...I will say that the veto toward his rebuilding plan didn't make much sense if he was going to be continuing on in the role of GM.

I wouldnt be against bringing back Gally at the right number. Seems like he got screwed by his agent not recognizing what was available for his client.

Ultimately bringing him in would cause a log jam but if you make Spezza and Simmonds our spares it could work out.

Places need to be found for incoming players signing like Ritchie, Bunting, Kase, and Kampf along with players remaining like Engvall, Micheyev, Spezza and Simmonds. Thats 8 bodies for 7 possible spots in opening day lineup!!!! Something has got to give if Gally is signed also.

OPEN - Matthews - Marne
OPEN - Tavares - Nylander
OPEN - Kerfoot - OPEN

Let the battle begin!!!!!

Eh, he had a couple of strong seasons as a backup pre lockout, but in the two before we got him he was sitting with a .901 and .908 sv percentage, and was 28 years old. Never exceeded 904 with the leafs.

Yeah, but he was at least servicable until he dropped right off a cliff. The one that still burns is Raycroft.

I think at least 5 of those players you mention in your 3rd paragraph need to perform, at least, to their reasonably expected potentials. More, would be a wonderful benefit to the team. I think Spezza will, Ritchie probably - though I like him more with Tavares, against consensus- I’m curiously optimistic, Mikheyev and Kampf, I’m confident, I’m hopeful, but not confident, that Engval will surprise: Bunting, Simmonds, Kase (and I’d add: Robertson, Brooks, and Anderson)...I don’t know? I think a team needs at least 3 lines they can count on, and a 4th that doesn’t get caved. I can see our first two and I’m good, the 3rd is hopefully 2/3rds there. The 4th, 1/3, to my way of thinking. Give me a solid player on the third, to his acceptable level, and I’m good. One more on the 4th, every team has a weakness, and I’m good. Those you mentioned will define our season.

I think Gally has been crowded out. Especially if Robertson is going to be lurking for a chance/spot for much of the season

We know Gally can play in the top 6 but I'm not sure any of the new pickups or Robertson are capable of that yet

I'd try to accommodate both and look to get rid of somebody I'm not sure is even an NHL player any longer *coughSimmondscough*

Only way we bring Galchenyuk back is if the rumors of Mikheyev wanting out are true and he is moved. Personally, I'd rather see Robertson get a chance. Gally started off great when he first arrived and then kinda faded in and out which is understandable but with the additions of Bunting and Ritchie on the left side, it's already pretty crowded

The issue with Gally is that while offensively he's too six quality, but the other known quality is his defensive brain farts.

I wouldn't be opposed to signing him though.

I suspect they really liked how Simmonds was in the room/bench and can accommodate his 4th line minutes a bit easier.

Problem is he probably isn't playing top6, and not worth a roster spot in the bottom. I don't see it.

Who is playing top 6 exactly?

I see 2 players with no experience, a walking injury and Ritchie who's been a disappointment

I'm not convinced

I'll take the guy that can score and help his linemates score looking at the rest of our roster

We don't have the cap room to be paying 4th liners over league min because they are good in the room

yeah then add the extra wrinkle of guys who aren’t waiver eligible or what if Robertson forces his way onto this team.

Still would really like to see Gusev on a PTO.

If Mikheyev wants out so bad, send him out for pick(s) and sign Galchenyuk AND Gusev for less than the 1.6 AAV Mikheyev holds.

mikheyev is valuable though to us. His PK ability shouldn’t be understated, especially with Hyman gone and us really ideally wanting to reduce the amount of time Marner spends there. Also I think it’s fair to say mikheyev is still capable of getting back on track offensively

I saw this on social media and thought it was pretty funny....
