Trade Kerfoot to Seattle for Bastian and Borgen. Borgen played well in his 10 game stint in Buffalo last year and could be a long term RD. Bastian is a Hyman type from my very limited research. Both players are locked in under 1M for 2 more seasons.
Bastian is a guy I was hoping we would target pre expansion draft from New Jersey. Not a lot of offense there but big and physical, decent defensively and can PK a bit, not a world beater by any means but a guy who can fill an important role on a 4th line. Still pretty young too, so some room to improve on the offensive side.

Might be able to pry him loose from Seattle since they have a few of those 23-25 year old 4th line types and will need to put a few through waivers.

A lot of NJ posters seem to think Seattle might put him on waivers. NJ fans seem to want him back if that's the case.

I think i might have preferred Bozak at that price over Kase for center depth and have Kerfoot on the wing.

Ritchie Matthews Nylander
Kerfoot Tavares Marner
Bunting Bozak Mikheyev
Simmonds Kampf Spezza

I think we all would have... but he's happy in St. Louis, has had success there, it's close to home... so it's an easy deal for him, his family, and the org. I doubt we were every really on the radar.

Calgary was like "who is left on the scrap heap who was once a useful player at some point in the past 10 years?"

What’s the incentive for Seattle? I don’t know anything about the 2 guys mentioned but just wondering why they would make that trade based on your descriptions

He actually is. Bogosian was probably our least frustrating 3rd pair guy in a while and it wasn't because he threw around the body a ridiculous amount (average hits wise). He played smart for the most part and didn't overdo the physical stuff. His one and only fight was in the offensive zone against Watson after he got mugged basically so it's not like he was punching guys lights out either.

He had 1 fight
I think people mix up the difference of being strong or being physical. Bogosian isn’t extremely physical but he’s definitely big and strong.

Never really saw a fit for him other than alongside Spezza, and that line is already getting pretty full as far as potential bodies goes

I would have liked Bozak on the $750K but the bonuses would have eaten up all the Kessel money coming off the books for next year and would have been a problem.

Kind of wish we had taken a flyer on Ryan Donato though.

Apparently they liked Kerfoot and were prepared to take him. They get a top 9 player in exchange for 2 players that probably won't make their opening night roster.

What is the incentive for the Leafs? That is the more pertinent question. All I see is a legit top 9 player with great value for two fringe guys who would struggle to make our lineup alongside the 5 or 6 other fringe guys we already have on our team.

If Seattle wants Kerfoot, give us the right package of picks.

Agreed, would have been interested at 750k but not with those performance bonuses (which I assume are easy to achieve and just a way to push some of the cap hit to next year)

Any interest on Gusev on a PTO?

Not sure what happened to him last season but he was pretty solid as a first year NHLer the year before. Put up Panarin+ numbers in the KHL before that.

Not sure I see the fit but on a PTO? Can't go wrong.

Thoughts on a PTO for Demers?

veteran RHD coming from a horibad‘totes disaster.

Any downside to it?

I'd be interested. I'm surprised he's still unsigned. I think he'd be a good fit.

Surprised Virtanen is still o0ut there. If Deangelo can get signed, have to assume someone will take a chance on Virtanen for really cheap.

Ben Hutton, Brayden Coburn and Zdeno Chara might all be PTO candidates.

Leafs missed out on Hankanpaa. They were intersted in Gubrandson on a PTO. Have to assume they give the guys I mentioned above a chance for some nastiness on the back end.

Highly doubt any of those players actually make the team. My guess is that a Gritty back-end defenseman will be a Trade Deadline acquisition
