Mikheyev is actually pretty ineffective. He just stands out a lot because he gets a ton of prime scoring chances, which he wastes. I don't really understand why Dubas would force him to stay on the team if he doesn't even want to be here. I would have leaned towards trading him even if he didn't request a trade. His role and ice time aren't going to change, and if they do it's a mistake

He creates those chances himself though, it's not like he wastes opportunities created by his teammates. It's not difficult to envision him having a Grabner-like breakthrough at some point where he pots 25+

He's nothing like Grabner except for maybe foot speed. Grabner was highly talented player who went top 10 in his draft

If he could have score 25 goals he would have. Closes Grabner is Kapanen who once in a while may deke out defenders

If he could score 25 goals he would have done it last year when he had millions of chances

Trade him. Guy played no lower than the 3rd line for most of the year, was given 2nd line opportunity the year prior, but just cannot produce because of nonexistent finishing ability.

Multiple endorsement deals in Toronto, treated like royalty after his injury, and requests a trade barely two years into his tenure with a playoff team. I'd move him to Arizona or Buffalo and promote Engvall as his internal replacement for cheaper.

Mikheyev should be traded.

We could recover some picks for him. Opens up a spot in the bottom 6. If he has a bad year this year, he's going to walk as he already wants out. If he has a god year, he's going to walk because we won't be able to afford him.

He should be traded by the end of camp. He likely wont be, though.

I think you're missing a caveat that if he does have a "god" year, the Leafs are likely in a position to content and that's a good position to be in.

Mikheyev is still a pretty good player even if he has an average/bad season. He's got blazing speed and he's pretty good on the PK at the very least. Not sure I care about a mid round pick or two right now as opposed to having his skillset set in the lineup, especially with Hyman now gone.

Typo. Meant to say good year.

His PK is superb also his defensive play is top notch brings a lot of intangibles that go unnoticed by the average FAN

Micheyev is an untouchable for this coming season. People dont get that he was coming off a very serious wrist injury that could have cost him his life. To regain full motion and strength after such a injury takes time.

He is constantly skating, and plays the game as it should be played. Last season he wasnt rewarded for his efforts but it wasnt because he loafed. The guy can play, and you ride him as long as you can because his hands may catch up to his legs again as they did prior to his injury. And the Leafs dont want to be that team that gave up on that type of 2-way player which they desperately need in their lineup. Not yet anyway.

People need to layoff on this guy. I honestly believe he will breakout this coming season. Would like to see him on PP in front of the net.

If Leafs sign Chara, will he play the PP?
I think the Leafs should try Chara and let him partner with TLil and Dermott.
Cook Sandin for another year in the minors inorder for him to work on his speed.

mike
If anything mikeyev owes the leafs
I'm sure his Russian team would have got him to world class hospital
World class surgeon and his gm stay in hospital with him
Guy can't score in a brothel yet he wants more ice time?

He's a bottom pairing quality PP specialist at this point in his career.

I doubt anyone is giving up multiple picks for him.

Too bad Mikheyev wants out, loved his speed. One upside though is it'd open the door more for Robertson & Anderson (both by roster spot & a little cap space).

His wrist has gotta hurt his trade value at least some... what's he worth, a 4th?

That's why he's not getting out. The guy has no leverage.

Wouldn't mind Chara with the Leafs on a limited role

Chara still has presence and leadership. Just don't play him more than 8 mins a game
There's no reason why Holl, Rielly and others can't play 2 mins extra a game
