As it stands currently, the Leafs stand to lose any of Anderson, Engvall, Brooks and/or Menell to waivers.

Robertson likely starts in the AHL as he's waiver exempt, and the Leafs probably carry one of Brooks/Anderson/Engvall on the big club. Still, to lose potentially two of those names to waivers would be terrible foresight.

If a guy like Timashov gets claimed, then potentially all of those names will. Dubas needs to trade a piece like Engvall now to prevent a claim and alleviate some cap so they can carry an extra body.

These waiver scares appear every fall. Every NHL franchise has comparable bubble players. In the end there are very few waiver claims of forwards and defensemen as every team is optimistic about the talent they've accumulated over the summer.

If the Leafs can bring in Bozak at the vet minimum it would be at the expense of a player like Engvall. Kerfoot wouldnt be traded as his versatility is something this team should keep around.

Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Bozak-Kase
Simmonds-Spezza-Micheyev

Bozak would help on draws, PK and PP. Played correctly would have a similar impact as Spezza to this lineup.

Trade Engvall for pick(s). Or a similar deal for a player that cannot be signed to an entry level contract like we did with Hyman back in the day. Someone we can sign and develop.

Kampf is going to play, and likely should play over a guy like Simmonds.

Would love Bozak back on a 2 year deal at league minimum or something like $900K. Envgvall should be shipped for a late draft pick or packaged for a guy like Lawson Crouse or Christian Fischer from AZ.

What about Robertson?

I have a feeling we will eventually see
Mikheyev-Matthews-Marner (Soup isn't really a 1st line guy but his speed will help get the other 2 the puck)
Ritchie-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Kerfoot-Kase
Bunting-Spezza-Simmonds
Kampf

Would love to see M. Domi with the leafs. I can easily see him scoring 30 goals again in this league.
Unless he has some sort of crazy shooting % spike like Anderson / Toffoli had last year it's not likely.

His career high is 28 and he averages 17 goals per 82GP for his career so far.

It's definitely not out of the question the guy is only 26 and people act like his career is done. He's a head case I can see him maturing and putting up decent points again, just my take.

Apparently ilya requested a trade at end of this past season.
Not sure what he wants? If he didn't have stone hands he would definitely be in the top 6

Sabres re-engage interested teams after meeting with Eichel's representatives - Sportsnet.ca

"According to several sources, Toronto winger Ilya Mikheyev asked for a trade following the 2020-21 season. But, what is important to the story is that the Maple Leafs made it clear they do not want to accommodate this request. With Zach Hyman and Joe Thornton gone from the left wing, the organization told Mikheyev it considers him a key part of their team and are counting on him to have a big year.
Neither GM Kyle Dubas nor agent Dan Milstein were willing to comment. At issue appears to be role and ice-time, heading into the final year of his contract. His 14:13 per game last season was eighth among Toronto forwards. Mikheyev’s impressive 23-point, 39-game rookie season was cut short by an accidental — but serious — skate cut to his wrist. (Dubas stayed with him in hospital after the team returned from New Jersey to Toronto.) He had seven goals and 17 points in 2020-21, going pointless in the playoffs. He’s a talented guy, and if he could get his shooting percentage higher (6.5 last season), it could be a real breakthrough for him and the team."

Mikhayev asked for a trade after the season citing role and ice time, but team told him they won't accomodate his request. They believe in him and consider him a big part of the team.

I'm still a believer in him, if he could get the finishing back, he has everything you want in a player.

I remember some reports saying something weird happened during his contract negotiations.

Figured he wouldnt be a long term piece.

There's certainly a path for a larger role on this team for Mikheyev if he wants to put the work in.

I get it, no matter how well you play you're never getting Marner or Nylander's minutes or money. I don't mind treating him as a rental who's extra motivated to cash in. Maybe playing with Semyonov will help if he's NHL caliber.

There should be a rule that a player as crappy as Mikheyev should not be allowed to request a trade over “role”. Want to move up in the lineup? Score a goal. He had countless chances last season; even on the PK due to his impressive speed but he just sucks ass at finishing.

Demanding a trade won’t fix his lack of finish nor is he anything special. Bye bye Iilya if I was Dubas. We have plenty of plugs who can’t find the back of the net on the marlies I’m sure.

That Soup rumor is pretty interesting.

Though he's got nobody but himself to be blame for not being able to hit a side of a barn with the puck

Yup.

Fun trivia question.

Only two forwards have played more than 150 minutes the last two playoffs and recorded 0 points.

Louis Eriksson in 159 minutes played
Ilya Mikheyev in 171 minutes played (6th highest TOI of any Leafs forward over the two playoffs)

He's had his chances too but has elite level stone hands to go with that speed.

Its almost comical HE'S requesting a trade here no?

Kind of curious as to why the Mikheyev trade request would be leaked to the public now when he could be in a position to earn a bigger role.

The downside to these short term KHL mercenary signings like Lehtonen, Barabanov and Mikheyev is you don't develop very much organizational affiliation and loyalty. If the pitch is they get to use Toronto as a gateway organization into the NHL they're going to be viewing arrangements in very short term, transactional ways as opposed to coming up through the organization.

So Soup asked for a trade, Dubas said no. That’s quite interesting due to the timing of the leak and Soup being just a regular bottom 6 players.

His agent is Dan Milstein, so that's probably as strong a power move as you can achieve with a player like Mikheyev who has very little leverage and clout. That said, if the Leafs aren't moving him, it just alienates the player somewhat from being likeable Soupy to oh that guy. Doesn't seem that productive.
