If I wasn’t matching I would have just gone fishing today. Not answer calls and piss them off

Habs dont match, the right move but I'm still a bit surprised. It will be interesting to see what they do to fill their centre holes.

Suzuki
Evans
Paquette
Poehling

As it stands right now

Bergevin has had a week to work the phones and see what he can get in a trade for the 1st and/or 3rd. He knows full well what he can get.

I have no doubt he has a deal in place and will use one of or both of them before the season starts to trade for a Centre.

I think the Habs could walk away from this whole thing in a better position, but man did they get punk'd to the 9th degree by Carolina. Shots fired, for sure.

I guess when KK scored against the Habs, he will hold up 6 fingers.

I think Habs did the right move for not matching.

I actually think it’s the right call too. I am doubting that KK will hold that same value (1st and a 3rd in 2-3 seasons) although that just shows how much of a bust of a 3rd overall pick that was, which still doesn’t look good on Bergevin

At the same time the Habs centre depth has taken major hits this season. Their second line centre is now Evans? Yikes. And with camp around the corner their leverage in a trade has shrunken big time.

Funnier thing is I believe the Canes we’re offering more in a trade proposal last year, and Montreal’s price was so high. Now the Canes effectively get him for less

I still like the gamble for the Canes. A mid to late 1st really isn't a huge cost. Hopefully more teams try this sort of stuff in future offseasons.

The Habs really aren't in a great spot in right now too.

Im going to guess they will go hard after a Dvorak, Hertl, etc etc. I could see Eichel being a target too but doubt that happens.

So it's basically, from MTL's pov, it's Kotka + 2nd for Dvorak + 3rd......which is pretty good for MTL considering Dvorak is probably better than Kotka at least for now.

It is not a bad deal for the Habs.
Dvorak is solid C and should do well for the Habs.
The Suzuki watch will be interesting.

High end guys are getting matched but those mid tier guys that get squeezed on cap strapped teams are an obvious target to go after

If teams did that you could screw over half the teams in the league right now

Flipping those picks for Dvorak, he's 4 years older than KK and is only just over half a point a game over recent seasons

I seriously doubt Montreal is going to be a better team because of this

Dvorak and KK are about the same. I would say Dvorak is the better player now.

Not by much at all and he's 4 years older so he doesn't have KK's upside

I'm presuming he's the Montreal 2C and he's a 50/50 bet to hit 40 points let alone 50

I'd rather take the younger guy and hope for improvement honestly
