Some mock Rielly trades:

CGY: Noah Hanifin/Rasmus Andersson + top 10 protected 2022 1st + Cameron Whynot

LA: Adrian Kempe + Mikey Anderson + Akil Thomas

SEA: Vince Dunn + Jared McCann + top 10 protected 2022 1st

(we also send them Engvall for cap purposes)

MIN: Matt Dumba + Marat Khusnutdinov + 2023 2nd

STL: Robert Thomas + Tyler Tucker + 2023 1st

NYI: Noah Dobson + conditional 1st (make playoffs) + Tristan Lennox

NYR: K'Andre Miller + 2022 1st + Ryder Korczak

PIT: Pierre-Oliver Joseph/John Marino + 2022 1st + 2023 2nd

BOS: Matt Grzelcyk + 2022 1st + Zach Senyshen

FLA: Gustav Forsling + Owen Tippett/Grigori Denisenko + 2023 2nd (becomes a 1st if FLA makes conference finals in either of the next two years)

These are the types of deals, and also the teams, I'd expect Rielly to go for. My personal preference would be in a deal for a dman with potential.

The Pittsburgh one might work. The Calgary one looks ok too.

The rest don't make sense for both teams - either Toronto is unloading their best D for futures or the other team overpays.

And I doubt you hear much, given this is when teams pretty much shut it down for the summer. The window to move Rielly has closed but it should re-open near the beginning of training camp and wider once the season starts. Would be nice if one of our "tough-meadia" folks could ask Dubas what his plans for Rielly are given that the cost for top dmen has risen significantly and we are up against the cap.
Unless a team struck out and missed their opportunity to add that type of defenseman. Doesn’t really seem to be tho…

If the Rangers could unload Strome to Buffalo as a part of the Eichel trade they would make a lot of sense for Rielly.

They have a lot of high end LW's Kravtsov/Laf/Kakko at the top of that and most of their early round picks the next few years.

Rielly-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Nemeth-Lindgren
Hajek

I'd be asking for the moon in the trade but they are probably the best match for us.

I think I would much rather have the oilers overpay Hyman than have a measly 6th round pick. The oilers being tighter against the cap helps us more than a pick that statisticly doesn't have much of a chance of becoming an NHLer. Why help them?

They have now overpaid Hyman, Nurse and Ceci this off season. They are up against the cap and aren't really any more competitive with no depth scoring , a mediocre defense and a 40 yr old goalie as their starter and a way overpaid backup.

Maybe if the Oilers were in the east. Turning down a free pick when you pretty much don't have many is dumb but hey Dubas stuck to his guns, when it mattered the least. Sigh.

The optics of getting McCann back in a deal where Rielly moves might not be good to some, but McCann and Dunn in for Rielly and Engvall would be very nice as soon as this season. I do like Dobson as a basis quite a bit as well.
Agreed on both points, the NYI idea I pulled from main boards, SEA is my own personal putting it together

That's the thing, it most likely will be one of the two in a Rielly deal. PIT/CGY/NYR are my top 3 matches though

NYR is definitely the best fit especially if they go get Eichel, which is why I didn't target any of their young wingers (likely go for Eichel)

The only way Dubas gets fired is if the leafs aren't a playoff team next season.

If they're a 100 point team and flame out in the 1st round again, he's still safer than any player on the roster.
I tend to agree with this. Leafs org seems to have invested a lot in Dubas's vision and I don't see them jumping ship yet. Most gms usually get 5 yrs min. If they flame out again then I think he has one more shot at fixing it ie trading a core piece, firing the coach etc..

Am I missing something why is NY the best fit? They have fox and Troy a

If they want to win with Panarin/Zibanejad/Shesterkin/Fox (not to mention Eichel), they'll need to add a high end LD, right now their LD is a big question mark, like our RD was for a while. Trouba is also pretty overrated, he's good, but not your ideal #2. NYR just has the pieces, need and window to maximize return.

but how would they fit it all under the cap?

fox. 9.5
Trouba 8
Reilly. 9

That’s insane

Yup Shanny and Co. are prepared to go down with the ship rather than jumping off or changing course.

I think Buffalo probably targets Miller and one of Krav/Laf/Kakko + 1st round picks for Eichel, but Panarin is a right shot that plays LW so 2 of the 3 are still blocked from top 6 minutes unless they play their off-sides which Kakko does on occasion. Eichel and Zib both being right shot C's means the RW won't get the puck much anyways on those lines.

I still think all three could be had for immediate roster upgrades for them.

I'd hate to move Rielly but if a NYR package was being put together than

Rielly for Nils Lundkvist + Brendan Otthman

It's basically a futures-heavy package. 2 1sts for a signed Rielly

If Buchnevich hadn't been dealt would have done Rielly signed for Buch + Lindgren, though that was before seeing how little the Rangers valued the player

It's not that I don't believe you, but I would love to read his original quote.

You can listen. It was In the locker clean out. Lebrun asked

He has referenced it multiple
Times on leafs lunch and overdrive
You can check the podcasts

A futures package would have made more sense earlier in the offseason if it was made in combination with signing a Dougie Hamilton for free. Like a quick double dip to get futures and an upgrade. Doesn't work so well now.
