Chris Johnston on the Steve Dangle Podcast did confirm Ritchie was in the Leafs office to get a tour and talk to the team, so there's mutual interest but price might be an issue right now.

He also mentioned Tatar as a real possibility and after a rough playoffs, maybe he settles for less to prove himself.

With 1.25M going to Kase, Tatar probably isn't an option now unless we move some a moderately big salary like Mikheyev.

I think Kerfoot taking one of the top 6 LWer spots and Ritchie + Kase battling for the other top 6 LWer spot seems like a fairly likely scenario.

Dangle says he addresses the mystery hype player,

did you catch what he said

I think if we got Ritchie, Bunting has the other top LWer spot. Kase is a RW.
Ritchie-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase
_____Spezza-Simmonds

I didnt listen to the entire thing yet, just that segment of the podcast. They didn't talk about the "big" and "mystery" player unless Bertuzzi is that guy. Bertuzzi was talked about but Johnston just said it's possible (to the Leafs) since he needs a contract...

They also talked about Dermott and Johnston doesn't think the Leafs want to trade him.

Kase is primarly a RW. I think he was added as an option to play on the 3rd line over Simmonds and Spezza, who could be a center this season (he plays center anyway then moves to the wing after the faceoff).

I don't see why they would trade Mikheyev. Engvall to me is the first forward traded if they need cap space.

Mikheyev and Engvall sent packing hopefully.

Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase is a good looking shutdown third line. All mid 20s guys that are strong skaters and defensively aware. Could be a frustrating line for other teams.

More like

Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kase

Mik plays LW/RW. I think he has a longer leash than Engvall

Dubas #1 priority this off-season and still remains:

Rielly situation. Get him signed asap after a "down" year. If this f***er pulls 70 point season again, we are f***ed in negotiations

I am ok with Dubas bringing in younger guys on cheap deals vs going the Thornton way. I think Dubas saw Joe struggle to keep up to the pace so getting guys like Bunting, Kase, Amadio, Gabriel all younger guys.

Kampf and Kase are buddies. So I find that move interesting. Maybe they get to finally play together as linemates in the shutdown capacity like I talked about (Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase). Also, Kase has been teammates with Ritchie as a Duck and as a Bruin...maybe that continues now here in Toronto...
Sorry, I'm bored and trying to connect random dots haha

Agreed. A lot of people are hard on Gabriel cuz of his skill level. Which is fair. But he's tough as nails and like you mentioned, skating or "pace" as you said, is not an issue. Dubas is acquiring younger guys that can move out there, and I'm not upset about that one bit

He may not suck at skating, but he sucks at hockey relative to every other option we have. How do you justify putting him in over a guy like Joey Anderson, who is significantly better in every regard except fighting.

Ritchie - Kampf - Kase third line?

Bunting with Matthews and Marner

Kerfoot with Tavares and Nylander.

Spezza with Simmonds and Brooks/Engvall.

For that last except that you included

With the majority of the insiders on vacation, I don't suspect we'll know much of that situation until it hits critical red.

But I agree. It has to be done, one way or another.

Well like I said, I hope both are sent packing. And yes, he definitely has a longer leash than Engvall

I’d give Mikheyev 1/2 season before moving on from him. He had a bad 2nd season but me think the wrist slit injury didn’t help him.

He has more grit than the shell of Pierre Engvall

Don't hate that either. Lot of plug and play with those 12 imo. Any given night a guy like Simmonds could be hot and moved up, and Kase,Ritchie, or Bunting moved down for example. I think that's not the sexiest forward group, but tons of plug and play options. Game is going one way, throw out Ritchie and Simmonds on the same line. Load up a shut down line of Kerfoot-Kampf-Kase. Switch Nylander and Bunting if you wanna go heavy offense on one line etc
