Burke loooooves Reilly. He will be all over him as a ufa.

what’s the deal with pit?

calgary i can see straight across for one of hanafin/andersson or valimaki plus.

Signed Reilly would get Marino. I don’t know what we could get from pit. I don’t think Peterson is worth it.

Rielly was brutal for long stretches last year, so we also can't lose sight of the idea that maybe we don't want him that badly long term. But either way I think the Leafs need to be proactive in protecting their asset here, so if they don't think they can make the right trade right now, they should still sign him up and reserve the right to trade him for a haul at a later date.

So he was brutal in long stretches but let's trade him for a haul ?? So what number can we afford and what number will he accept? This is going to be Hyman 2.0 unless they move a $5+m player IMO.

I don't think Dubas is desperate, and I think the majority of NHL teams, especially coaches are dumber than the average hockey twitter poster. If your only argument is that DeBoer and Ducharme benched him and their team won games, I really don't care what you think.

Show me specifically what he did wrong, because every time I watch him I see a player that is undervalued for similar reasons to Nylander. Not to mention his impacts and numbers are very very good.
Dubas not desperate? NHL teams/ coaches dumber than the average hockey twitter poster? Great insight on your part.

Ducharme was making all kinds of weird roster decisions. Benching Caufield, Kotkaniemi, Romanov. I'd take any of those guys. I can't see who you're debating with as they are on my ignore list, but theirs is not a particularly compelling argument.

Kraken are looking at flipping Vince Dunn. While he's no Morgan Rielly, he's still a pretty solid top 4 lhd. If we can trade Rielly and use some of the assets to obtain Dunn, we'll be in good shape.

Rielly is a BC boy. Seattle has lots of cap space and would be a nice landing place for him.

Let me guess, you think Sheldon Keefe is one of the few smart coaches?

rumman lol. I've been debating the block for a while, but I need to keep some guys who straight up hate Dubas

I think Rielly market should be around 7.5 to 8.5 AAV.

If he hits UFA he may get offered 9M+ AAV. Kessel's cap hit will be off the cap next season; but you also have Sandin/Lily/Campbell up for re-negotiations next season and will probably need to look to fill spots with the UFAs again. We don't really have someone in the AHL that could step right in after Spezza and potentially Engvall/Mikheyev are gone.

Too many variables and I think Rielly would probably want to get it done ASAP so he can plan his future.

Mo's friends are all gone: Gardiner, Kessel, Kadri, etc...

I think he might be looking for a new home and a retirement contract. And quite frankly I dont blame him.

Last week (I believe it was Mirtle) said Rielly would accept a discount and sign for around $6.5. That ship has sailed after seeing the market for top dmen being set this week.

So was Seth Jones. Name defensemen have value. Sign him now, trade him if you think that makes sense. It's not that complicated, difficult or dramatic.

Rielly is different that Hyman because Hyman was on a very cheap deal. Rielly already makes $5 million so the incremental raise to, say, $7 million isn't that big of a step.

Seattle is already loaded on the left side, hence why they're looking at moving Dunn. They have Gio, Olesiak already for their top 4 on the left side

Max I would go for Reilly is 60 million 7.5 x 8 His partner is a local.

I still think giving him up for a cost controlled lesser D like Marino/hanafin/Anderson is better. But if we have to then keep him.

can’t lose him for nothing. Just can’t

Jury is still out. I don't think he's Jon Cooper level, but I also don't think he's Ducharme either (The Habs numbers were significantly worse than with Julien, but they couldn't score a goal for him).

The Leafs numbers since Babcock left have gotten significantly better, especially defensively almost the moment that Babcock left. I think the main thing I like about Keefe is that his system is tailored to the players instead of bringing in a system and using it whether it works for the players or not. I do have issues with his insistence on running Marner/Matthews even when they aren't working, playing Tavares/Nylander so much less. I don't always love his roster decisions, and I especially hate the powerplay.

I do think the good currently outweighs the bad and I'd have him in the top-10/15 coaches in the league but I'm not sold on him.

Hey, whatever floats your boat, but you’ll get tunnel vision if you only read the narratives that are inline with your opinions imo.

It's why I haven't ignored you. People are allowed to have their opinions and it is what creates good debates. Not like I've seen you support racism or sexual abuse, the things I've ignored about 50 people for the past week.

After the contracts handed out this week Rielly is getting 8 mil/year on a contract that is minimum 6 years in length. Leafs have to trade someone to lock him up or trade him for assets. Losing him for nothing should not be an option.

I would take anything Mirtle says with a grain of salt. Mirtle is really tight with the current management and their mouth piece.

For all we know he is setting it up so that when Rielly indeed walks he can paint Rielly as a "bad guy"

Don't think we can get anybody who can provide Rielly's minutes on that cap hit he is currently on; and at the same time it is hard to justify letting another pending UFA walk so I am pretty sure Mirtle is buying time.

If $7m gets it done, you do it yesterday as you say it is not a big step, but I am afraid the number is going to be higher. Dubas probably starts at 7 and hopes Rielly want to stay a Leaf. At this point I am not sure what the Leafs are thinking when it comes to Rielly.

I read lots of posts, don’t agree with many of them, but why anyone would self censor themselves is beyond me.

Personally, it's for my own sanity. The amount of times I start writing almost an essay of a post to just disagree with how stupid something someone says just to have them laugh and go "dubas lover go brr". Yeah, I just find when I've noticed I almost do it a few times it's time to just hit the button.

Would you all give Rielly $50 million for 8 years?
Takes him to 35

assuming Rielly will be fine to take this contract

you can structure the contract in a way that it is movable in the last 2 years with heavy signing bonuses which Leafs can easily do

Rielly will be crazy to not test the market to at least see whats going to be offered to him in an open market though
