CJ on the Steve Dangle podcast says that the Leafs are likely to add two more players. Mentions the Leafs have interest in Ritchie and Tatar, and could even go the trade route for someone like Bertuzzi.

I'm absolutely shocked that people don't want Tatar, especially if he signs for well below market value for a guy who scored 61 points in 68 games for THE HABS two seasons ago. Like? This is a team with no scoring talent and he almost went PPG. You don't even need to look at his impacts to realize that he's a great player even by eye test standards and production. He works hard, he goes to the dirty areas, he's a fantastic playmaker, he plays against ridiculously tough comp.

AND THEN his impacts are unbelievably good. How could this not be a guy you want beside Matthews or Tavares for less than 4M LOL.

There are too many teams with too much cap space for him to take a cheap 1-2 year deal I think. He might as well just go to the Coyotes or Red Wings for a huge 1 year deal and get traded to a contender at the deadline. The Taylor Hall special.

I do think Tatar would be good though, just don't think he'll be as cheap as people think. I'd expect Hoffman and Saad level money.

Is there anyone still willing to argue that Rielly will come in the mid $6's AAV?

I wish some people would think before they post. Pointing to contracts signed in a different climate a year ago.
If Reilly signs for anything under 8.5mil, I will buy him drinks at the Country Club we go to whenever I see him.

I just don’t see Reilly taking anything less than 9mil. The market is just crazy

Your posts getting troll worthy lately.

You would be captain of running Dubas out of town if he gave Rielly Werenskis contract yet at the same time he's also a victim of the big 4?

Hard to take you seriously.

Wow you are seriously off base with the trolling comment. Not saying Dubas is going to give Rielly the Werenski deal. I am saying another decent dman signed for 9+m is going to raise the price to sign Rielly and we probably won't be able to fit him in. You seriously think he is going to take less than 7m now ??

Every time I've watched Tatar it's been meh. He doesn't impress me, doesn't have a lot of grit or looks like he tries hard enough.
I don't know if this is a good fit for us but maybe he will prove me wrong.

I believe there's still an opportunity to trade for Boris Katchouk from Tampa.

Instead of swapping picks, Dubas should look at sending a recent draft pick who's probably 2-3 years away until some of Tampas contracts come off the books. Maybe SDA, Abramov or Villeneuve?

well that was Boston's idea, and I hate the Foligno contract for them. if you meant the Leafs should get Ritchie and Tatar, then I'd probably agree depending on what Ritchie wants. I think he can be better than Mikheyev for a similar price

Yeah I meant Tatar & Ritchie, but Ritchie is a sub 2M guy and Tatar a sub 4M guy for me to get excited about either.

Yeah, but Hyman doesn't do that? Watch any Leafs game the past 4 years and ask yourself how and why Hyman is where he is.
The last 3 playoffs , Hyman has 5 points in 19 games. Against Montreal, he had 1. When you play on the top line being stapled to Matthews, you can't get away with that little point production because you're a "hard worker". I don't understand how Hyman has escaped criticism because all you'll see is people coming to his rescue . Hell, people want to trade Kerfoot yet the guy had 6 points against Montreal. Apart from his hit on Marchand, what has Hyman actually done in the playoffs? Can you name me 5 stand out instances from Hyman?

Reads like hed be more a victim of an inflated free agency market.

Im not sure I'd want Rielly signed at 9 mil even if the team had 20 mil in extra capspace

Sure that is pretty much my point however other teams Hawks, Jackets, Devils were able to deal with the inflated prices. We can't because we are in cap hell.

At the end of the day, blame whatever/whomever you want to. Fact is Rielly, like Hyman won't be affordable. The time to deal Rielly was yesterday.

Than we need to trade Reilly ASAP.
We can’t afford that extension and we can’t afford to keep letting assets walk out the door.

Is Rielly closer to a Dougie Hamilton or a Tyson Barrie? Or I don’t know, somewhere in between?

Rielly plays top pair minutes. Barrie more often than not will give you 3rd pairing or 2nd pairing mins and a PP specialist.

That said, I dont think Rielly will give a discount. He signed a team friendly deal before. Don't think he will do it given how the RFAs were compensated by the new management

There’s a reason why he’s still available, it’s not a coincidence he’s not signed. You don’t get benched for two playoffs for two different teams for no reason. I don’t know the guy from Adam, but if it looks like a fish, smells like a fish and has fins, there’s a good chance it’s a fish. Dubas is desperate, perhaps he’s worth the gamble?

Rielly was brutal for long stretches last year, so we also can't lose sight of the idea that maybe we don't want him that badly long term. But either way I think the Leafs need to be proactive in protecting their asset here, so if they don't think they can make the right trade right now, they should still sign him up and reserve the right to trade him for a haul at a later date.

Rielly is at 5m now. IMO he goes into negotiations with Hamilton as his comparable. If Leafs balk he says OK, I am 90% as good as Hamilton, I'll take 8+m and he has every right to.

Someone still needs to replace Rielly's minutes though.

I am almost positive Rielly is either traded or walks as a UFA. I don't think he wants to stay anymore.

I don't think Dubas is desperate, and I think the majority of NHL teams, especially coaches are dumber than the average hockey twitter poster. If your only argument is that DeBoer and Ducharme benched him and their team won games, I really don't care what you think.

Show me specifically what he did wrong, because every time I watch him I see a player that is undervalued for similar reasons to Nylander. Not to mention his impacts and numbers are very very good.

He was very good for us in our first two runs against Washington and Boston. Then 3 years ago he didn't look good but played on a torn knee on which he shouldn't have been playing, frankly. Then last year he had 3 points in 5 games against CBJ, looked ok. This playoff run he was invisible, which may or may not be partly attributed to his injury.

Overall, he's been solid for us in the playoffs, but hardly irreplaceable.

I think Rielly market should be around 7.5 to 8.5 AAV.

If he hits UFA he may get offered 9M+ AAV. Kessel's cap hit will be off the cap next season; but you also have Sandin/Lily/Campbell up for re-negotiations next season and will probably need to look to fill spots with the UFAs again. We don't really have someone in the AHL that could step right in after Spezza and potentially Engvall/Mikheyev are gone.

Too many variables and I think Rielly would probably want to get it done ASAP so he can plan his future.

Mo's friends are all gone: Gardiner, Kessel, Kadri, etc...

I think he might be looking for a new home and a retirement contract. And quite frankly I dont blame him.

Kraken are looking at flipping Vince Dunn. While he's no Morgan Rielly, he's still a pretty solid top 4 lhd. If we can trade Rielly and use some of the assets to obtain Dunn, we'll be in good shape.
