Why are we even arguing about Tatar? He will literally be our third best winger if he signs with the Leafs now.
Pls don't say Bunting is better, or Robertson is better, or Engvall is better, heck even if Kerfoot moves to the wing, Tatar is a still a more productive player.

I am intrigued to see how Tatar performs with someone like Matthews & Marner.... could be a good buy low option

Dubas was talking about waiting on some free agent(s) who didn't have many options to come calling to take advantage of a pretty good opportunity to play in our top 6. I think Tatar was likely who he was talking about.

That says a lot more about our depth than it does Tatar.

Yep, which also means we can't expect any top wingers coming to the Leafs either via UFA or trades simply bc we are the only team in the League with THREE 10mil plus players.

Spezza has been an excellent 4th liner for us. Would you put him in the top 6?

He's 38, so he can't really handle first-line minutes physically, otherwise I would. Tatar is only 30. But the point is, just because a guy was benched there doesn't mean he can't do better here. Tatar's playoff Corsi is 63%, but his point production is weak. There has to be an element of bad luck there.

He floats around and cheats offensively. If he's not scoring, he's not helping.

It's funny how Habs fans were so mad he was benched and now they're putting it in Leafs fans heads that he's a trash player.

Guy is really good and would look great in the top6
the venn diagram of people roasting the Leafs for picking Kerfoot over McCann and the people roasting the Leafs for being interested in Tatar due to his playoff performance is a circle. The reality is going into the season with Tatar/Bunting instead of Thornton/Vesey in our top 6 is a massive upgrade

Are we talking about Spezza or Tatar?
Spezza is more than that.
As for Tatar, his job is to score, and Leafs need scoring.
Like I said, Tatar will be our third best Winger if he signs today.

Talking about Tatar. He doesn't drive play at all. He cheats and hope his team mates get him the puck. His impact is less than his point total.

I base that of watching games where he repeatedly blew the zone early and hope for a breakaway pass.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right guy? Can you remember the specific games where that happened - the eye test/memory can be quite deceiving.

Here's a writeup on Tatar from Sportsnet - sure sounds like a guy who would work on our top-6:

"Tatar is a skilled playmaker, capable of getting the puck to his teammates in contested scoring areas. Last season, Tatar completed 51.7 per cent of his passes into the slot at even strength, which ranked 19th among 320 forwards with at least five attempts per 60 minutes.
Tatar is able to buy time and space to create plays by beating defenders one-on-one at a high rate. At even strength, Tatar ranked 47th among qualified forwards in open-ice dekes per 60 minutes -- plays in which a skater beats a defender in open ice. An effective puck mover, Tatar ranked 98th in controlled zone entries and helped generate scoring chances at a high rate for the Canadiens when entering the offensive zone with the puck. Montreal produced scoring chances on 31.5 per cent of Tatar’s entries, which ranked 38th among all forwards."
