CJ like many of us speculated earlier today the Leafs were going to add another top 9 winger and top 6 winger. Looks like the top 9 guy is Kase.

I'm still very interested in Tatar. Getting him for 3-3.5M would be a bargain. Kase and his 1.25M likely means the end for Engvall who makes an identical salary, and that's fine.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Tatar-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kase

Much better looking top 9 than anything we put together last season.

I’m hoping we go after a 3C vs. A winger unless significant! Kerfoot is more effective on the wing. His draws are bad

I mean I like the Kase signing too, but the dude is made of glass. I wouldn't assume the Leafs are going to toss players on the assumption Kase takes their spot. It would seem foolish to bank on him playing close to a full season.

Ritchie would really round up this roster nicely. A big body top 9 forward with some toughness.

Really hopes he chooses the leafs.

I have a feeling if we move Kerfoot that we run a shutdown line with Kampf as either our 3rd or 4th (probably 4th)

Some mix of Kampf/Bunting/Mikheyev/Simmonds/Brooks/Semyenov

So uh... Eichel is not happy

How about Eichel for Tavares and one or two of our kids (Robertson, Amirov, Sandin etc)? Obviously, this only happens if Buffalo isnt on JTs no trade list, but its still very close to TO and his family/home.

The situation is Buffalo is degrading by the day and they must want to move on from this headache.

For the Leafs, we get a better player with more runway and also save 1M per year.

Looks good for the regular season.
Playoffs? Zero grit.

Montreal benched Tatar in the playoffs for a reason.

I prefer Ritchie and than try to trade Engvall/Mikheyev and somehow get Bertuzzi

Ritchie + Bertuzzi (assuming he's healthy) would be fantastic work.

That would change the look and personality of the team with Ritchie, Bunting, and Bertuzzi. All are physical players with skill.

I’m with you on this one. Would it work cap wise? We would probably have to trade Dermott + engvall at a minimum

artificial disc in the neck, yeah this will be tough to take on for any team not necessarily knowing how he will recover.

Personally I think a lot of people have this image of Nick Ritchie in their head of a nasty, big two way forward.

He is a lazy player and not the most defensive reliable. Despite being “big” I’m not sure if he’s a good fit

He’s certainly not a high energy guy. He’ll ruin your day if you happen to get in his way, but he doesn’t often go looking for it.

Yeah, it’s his profile and past two 0.5ppg seasons that create interest, and probably the rehab job they did with Gally who was seen the same way.
I don’t mind the idea of the player.
There’s already a glut of forwards tho, so I’m curious to see how it gets thinned and straightened out.

Is there anyone still willing to argue that Rielly will come in the mid $6's AAV?

I wish some people would think before they post. Pointing to contracts signed in a different climate a year ago.
Jesus Nurse is overrated. With 700 million given out on the first day of free agency and these ridicules RFA contracts and extensions, the GMs must know the cap will be going up faster and sooner.

no I wanted the list of his assets he let go for absolutely nothing to be a lot shorter to say JUST hyman maybe. What a weird thing to take away.
So you wanted Dubas to trade away players before playoff runs?

I'd do this but Buffalo wouldn't

Given GM's historical irresponsibility and lack of forethought I think it's quite possible that next offseason more resembles last than this one in terms of willingness to shell out big. I think that the liquidity created by a league wide increase in cap supply of 81.5m (Seattle joining) created a bubble of spending no different than if the cap had gone up by ~2.5 million. There's no expansion team coming next season, so if the cap remains flat its hard to see where the money will come from

Based on my detailed analysis, scribbling on napkins, there is 17 forwards for 12 or 13 jobs, and that is not including Nick Robertson who I have scribbled onto the first line for the Marlies.
There could be some bodies moved out for picks or prospects, which could be interesting.
This is a good time to scour the world for the next Zach Hyman.
