Not really sure Tatar fits. He seems like the kind of guy who can lead a 3rd line, but do we really want him to be the forechecker on the top 6 lines?
I do. He had an incredible line with Danault and Gallagher. He can't be the driver on a top line, but he can be a great 2nd or 3rd wheel. The risk for me is if he can perform in the playoffs, but he's only replacing Hyman so it's not too big of one

There aren't many options left now in Value Village.

What you see right now is what you'll most likely see on the opening night roster.

Don't need final product now. We're no longer high end contenders but we're also not a bubble team. Still better than 75% of the league.

Let the cap space accrue and wait until the deadline if need be. We need to be fully ready by April not October.

Saad would have been nice. A good replacement for Hyman and he plays a heavy game

I don't know that they would find enough ice time for Nylander on the third line (they'd have to be willing to also play his linemates that much). There's too much invested in both Tavares and Nylander to give either inferior ice time or quality of linemates.

If it means success, then ice time shouldn't matter. By putting Nylander on the 3rd line, he (or Tavares) can take advantage of some lesser matchups. Plus, Nylander has shown chemistry with some of the bottom 6 players already

I'd rather have multiple lines with offensive awareness in the event that one of the three goes cold/gets shutdown in the playoffs.

So Perry to Tampa? I guess Toronto has really lost its pull as a cup pursuit location as compared to last season.

Continuous choking will do that...even Bogosian left...if the Leafs' stars keep choking, and other players are forced to sign value deals to play, it does become clearer and clearer that the core was simply in it for the money, so why should anyone sign with this losing team and give up money at the same time when the young core did not? I guess Joe Thornton might still be available...:sarcasm:

No doubt. I suppose it's that I'm questioning this path being able to lead to success. Important to be open to any and all ideas at this point though.

true but I mean Hyman got 7 years 5.5 per year and it's not like Saad is old

Believe in the Toronto bump!

No but seriously - yeah the Hyman contract is pretty wild. Love the player - he'll be good at the beginning of that deal, but giving anyone that age that isn't an absolute star 5-7 years term is some damn risky business IMO.

Saad did probably get less than I thought based on how crazy the market was yesterday you're right.

It was reported that Bogosian closed the door on Toronto because of Covid restrictions, he didn't want to play in Canada anymore.

St Louis is extremely deep at forward

Wonder if they'd make a move for one of their forwards

They got

RoR, Schenn, Tarasenko, Buchnevich, Saad, Perron, Kyrou, Sanford, Thomas, Kostin, barbashev and Sundqvist as top 9 capable forwards (most are top 6 players)

Defense they have Krug, Faulk, paryako, Scandella

Wonder if they'd move Barbashev or Sanford for Dermott type deal to get a defenseman and trade from a position of surplus

That's a perfect excuse for him...he went back to a team of winners...even Perry signed with Tampa, leaving the Habs.

They might do some sucka dirt with sundqvist sire. But other than that... they ain't wanna trade with us. Also uh, so many us players don't want to come to canada per friedman etc cause of the restrictions etc. Period.

Tatar is useless. Getting scratched on a Montreal team that barely had any offense to begin with. I really hope we stay away from Tatar.
If you had to pick someone other than Ritchie to play top-6 LW in FA given the remaining options who would it be? He's really the only other viable option and they may not even have the cap space for him.

ow we have to settle with the richie sire. If he wants to come to canada. If ain'ts. Then we gotta push the button on maybe marcus johansson cheap. He can pass that thang like 99 gretzky at times.

Why would he care about making up excuses lol

What's he gonna say? I don't want to play with these kids, they just keep on losing? So the Covid restrictions is the perfect excuse to go back to Tampa where he won a Cup with 2 seasons ago...I'm sure there are other US teams looking for his services.
