Looking through teams that could use/afford Marner

Marner to CGY for Lucic, Mangiapane, Zary + 2022 1st
Marner to NJD for Mercer, Mcleod, Johnsson + 2022 1st
Marner to CBJ for Bjorkstrand, Robinson + 2022 1st
Marner to NSH for Carrier, Tomasino + 2022 1st

I don't think you'll see MM on this team after this season. The cap allocation just doesn't make sense, as it precludes us from playing in the upper end of the depth market where you need production from when your stars are underperforming. We need to keep Amirov. Robertson - who knows now that he's suffered back to back significant injuries.

I also think that given we went without a 1st last year and that this is going to be a deep draft, that we do not venture into deals that force us to part with our 1st this year. We should be getting one back for Marner, and 2x 1st rounders will go a long way to enabling us to remain competitive through this decade as AM34 and Willy get older.

It's early in the season and the Leafs are .500, so not a time to sound the alarms.

But just thinking ahead as a Plan B for worst case scenario, if the team struggles this year and the recipe doesn't work and the Leafs are out of the playoff race, it would be a good long term play to do a very quick retool and cap restructuring. The team is stuck, and it needs to be unstuck.

Move out the likes of Rielly, and some combination of Muzzin, Brodie, Kerfoot, Kase, Ritchie and whatever you can get futures and cap space for.
Keep the lottery pick and draft a blue chipper. Trade Marner in the offseason for a haul. Regroup with a fresh cast of younger support players and free agency haul.

I think Reilly, Holl and Kase will be move out if the Leafs is retooling due to their contracts. Kerfoot and Dermott are two others.
Marner will be interesting as I don’t know what he can net for the Leafs in this scenario since it would means the Leafs tanks and he is probably having his worst season.

Have a feeling if Marner continues to struggle, he will take personal leave like Drouin and take the rest of the season off.

Hope we get lucky in the lottery and get Shane Wright

Things feel pretty stale with Marner and I can kind of see the end of the era on the horizon. Kind of like the last season of Kessel when we had a highly paid winger, under performing team and he got his back up over everything. The straw that broke the camel's back there was Kessel's plummeting offensive production if you remember. I just don't you can have a miserable player and unhappy fanbase stuck in this loop for the life of that contract. For so many Leafs fans it's just killing the brand and passion.

I think the last draw was salute gate. Then medias just jumped on them even allowing a tweet or comment about Lupul dating Dion’s wife on live boardcast. Ofcourse TSN apologized afterwards but how can any players not hold a grudge against medias after that, which worsen the medias situation.
I just don’t think the team was that good back then.
Anyhow, winning solves all problems.

you're just hoping we dump one of our most important assets from a futures and culture rebuild perspective for absolutely nothing? are you crazy?
Marners time as being a positive asset is running out quickly.
At what point do other teams say “we don’t want your soft, arrogant, spoiled $11 million winger”?

Lindholm would be an interesting target, especially if a Rielly extension isn't in the cards. If we can't get a deal done, I wouldn't mind moving Rielly now, and bringing in Lindholm. I'd also ask about Comtois, as he and the Ducks seem to be headed for a divorce.
Would love Comtois

Certainly nowhere close to being at that point now. And likely not even next year when the majority of his contract dollars are already paid.

At this point I move Marner to shake up the core and re-allocate money. I don't even care if the Leafs win the trade it needs to be done.

Fans wouldn't be upset now trading Marner and Dubas has a golden opportunity to do it without fan backlash.

YOu didn't win with him so try wining without him

boy Mcann would look great on the top line right now. He has a great shot and speed. Imagine letting Kerfoot or Holl go. Holl is replaceable by any vet

You cannot have Kyle making that trade. It has to be someone else.

Marner and Rielly for a Marner level D and a Rielly level wing.

But any Marner trade is going to be on July 2nd, he has almost no cash left on his deal after then.

OK, it is safe to say you can hit the panic button…because if things go the way they are, this team is 100% going to miss the playoffs. It is not even up for negotiation! This core is royally ******.

Both Marner and Tavares have to go. Fact is that Tavares is so bad that he is not even tradable. He is going to have to be bought out.

I don’t believe it is far out of reach to have a deal with Buffalo sending Marner to Buffalo for Eichel. The Leafs would be adding for sure. What would the add be?
