you have to think though, with our rumored interest and "multiple teams offering 1sts", we have to be one of them.

not saying i like it, but have a hard time seeing us not be in.

I don't disagree, and maybe a GM would be happy to get a 'worse' overall reward for getting a 1st put in a trade.

I.e
2nd + a good prospect (lets say equivalent to a 2nd)
for Foligno

or

1st + late pick
for Folgino@50% + (Carlsson/Peeke. Some version of a playoff D who can doesnt need waivers to be on the taxi squad)

I can see a GM preferring the second deal so they can tell their fans 'he is our Captain but we got a 1st' even though in total value it may be worse.

A 1st is too much for Foligno but GMs make bad decisions at the TDL. I'd rather give a 1st for Hall.

I also wouldn't mind Hoffman if he's cheap. I'm not concerned about his (alleged) poor character for a couple months with the current team and leadership. If he can help on the PP and score some freebies on the 1st or 2nd line, go for it.

If they decide to overpay for Foligno's presumed intangibles, I actually hope they supplement it with someone like Hoffman.

just can’t get excited about a Foligno deal. May change if I see him wearing our team colours. A few weeks ago, I was really hoping for a statement move. Just don’t see that guy out there right now. But I am happy we are likely keeping our top four prospects.

With how great our scouts are and with this seasons draft class being somewhat of a crap shoot. I really hope we keep our first. This could be a big advantage for teams with big scouting staffs

i think so too. i am not totally against trading our 1st, but i would rather keep it than trade for crappy value.

truth is though, we are a contending team and you have to give to get. its either our 1st, or say Liljegren/Amirov. if there is a deal where a 1st can be dealt, in which it improves our chances of winning, i wont lose any sleep.

Also does anyone else find it funny how we lost to Columbus last year now they are selling, while we are a top team?

pays to have prolonged success with an elite core.

Agreed, for this year Dubas has a great opportunity to get draft gems; I hope he ends up with a lot of mid-late picks come draft day.

Probably bias but I think he's the best drafter in the league.

Trade Deadline = one of my least favourite time of the year for NHL. The soap opera tinge of the sport comes full front, I prefer watching the games.

That said I have no problem with trades and understand the injected plastic titillation of it though hoping for a trade just for the thrill of it is something I'm way over.

While I really enjoy the TD, Owen Nolan to the Leafs was the last time I got really excited by it.

Most often it’s not as impactful as people think.

That is definitely bias. Look at what Tampa does with their picks outside the first round.
I’m sure there are many other GMs with a better drafting resume right now.

I’m not saying Kyle and the Leafs are bad just unproven so far. No one he has drafted has proven anything in the NHL yet

A 1st for Foligno is laughable, but isn’t too surprising given how so many Hockey Men (TM) overrate the qualities a guy like Foligno brings.

I mean especially now when he’s nowhere near as effective as he used to be. But good on Columbus for getting what sounds like to be a potential haul for him.

Stay away from Hoffman please. He's a locker room cancer

Seravelli says the Leafs are one of the teams offering a 1st (The Caps and Avs are the other two)

If we're offering a 1st, we better be getting a depth defender as well.

The fact that teams are offering 1st for Foligno and not Taylor Hall...goes to show you how much different Front Offices think compared to Fans.

Teams who have won the cup the last 5 years have all values Locker Room Presence, Leadership and Grit to go along with just On-Ice stats.

A 1st for Foligno would absolutely be too much....but no one is gonna care 2 shits if that team goes on to win the Stanley cup.

I for one would not mind giving up a 1st for Foligno. This is the year to go for it.

Dubas has made Locker Room Leadership and Grit a priority going back to the Trade deadline. Nick Foligno checks both boxes.
