Does anyone else believe that Hall won’t return at least a first?

Thinking no GM is desperate enough to give up a first for Hall. Lou could have used that first for Hall but decided to use it on Palmieri and Zajac. Hall will be a bargain if the Sabres can't find a buyer and have to dump him last minute like the Isles dumped Vanek a few years ago.

I think it’s Hall, that’s why it’s taking so long, Dubas is waiting till the last minute to maybe pull the trigger. I think he’s waiting to maybe get him on cheaper than 1st round pick

someone might pay that for him, personally I wouldn't, I'm hoping Dubas can't figure out a way to accommodate that contract. The only reason I say that is I've only seen a few Slugs games and Taylor Hall didn't look like he could care less and nobody needs any of that around this team

Hoffman was rumoured to being dealt to the North Division as of last night. Today being reported that Toronto is interested along with Colorado and Edmonton.

Is there a fit next to Tavares and Nylander?

not upset dude just amused, adding 2 everyday players to your line-up is never a bad thing and it doesn't happen that often that you get them from the same place because it is hard, a trade in the cap world is even harder to make

Crouse is a decent player and maybe getting to play with decent players in a hockey atmosphere may help him to become the player he can be, not to mention the guy never takes a step back which bas we know the Leafs need more of

most of the folks around here don't watch Arizona play, TSN never covers them nor does Sportsnet, but yet everyone believes they "stink" because they don't make regular appearance's in the highlight reels
No one said anything bad about the players you mentioned. It was just suggested that those players would exactly qualify for big game hunting.

If that is big game hunting then I guess Florida was big game hunting when they traded for Montour yesterday and Montreal when they added Staal two weeks ago. Every trade for an everyday player would be considered big game hunting by your definition.

There's nothing wrong with Crouse or Lyubushkin but big game hunting, they are not.

Menzinger has the right question.

Who are you taking out? Right now, it is looking like a guy who is a better player than Crouse.

Crouse is not a "depth" move. Arizona is competing and will want him in their lineup, and will value him as such. That does not make him a top 9 player, but we will likely be paying for him like he is. We have guys on our 4th line who are closer to top 9 players than he is.

As for depth/goaltending, somewhat of a fallacy if you think getting Crouse is the only way we can get the depth we need. There are a lot better options out there that will fill our needs.

IMO, he is a better 4th liner than Barabanov, and possibly Simmonds while bringing a similar type of play. Simmonds is finally looking decent again, but he has looked pretty 'meh' when not riding shotgun with Nylander/Tavares.

The Leafs will loose some sort of F in the playoffs, and he would be a heck of a guy to be able to drop in (obviously, this only works if Anderson remains on LTIR).

6'4, his skating has improved a bit since being drafted, and he hits a ton. He is still only 23, so it may be a guy you think next year fully replaces Simmonds (almost $ for $).

Could be the Leafs seeing him as a guy who they can tweak to get more out of, similar to Galch.

I wouldn’t have been upset with that price for Merrill but I’m not heartbroken by it either

Depth defensemen market is set

Florida signing Gusev takes them out of any winger trades they may have been interest in. Helps the Leafs out.

He only costs 1m, and didnt take any assets.
How does this remove them exactly?

Gusev removes a guy like Lomberg.
Hall would take out a Marchment / Vatrano

I wouldn’t mind him, he was neighbours with one of my friends growing up. As someone from KW, I’ll never say no to more KW players on the Leafs lol

I haven't seen this but I wouldn't hate it. Got a link?
Hoffman has the credentials but I wonder about the player in the dressing room? There was that nasty bit a few years ago when he was with Ottawa and Erik Karlsson was involved? And then this year, he was the last UFA to go, as if no one wanted him.
If he comes with issues, I couldn’t see Dubas touching him.

I believe that had to do with their wives/girlfriends and it was proven to be untrue in court. I wouldn't be too concerned.

Barabanov is just a temporary fill-in for Nylander. We are not acquiring Crouse to have him in the press box. He would be a full time guy. Barabanov is not a full time guy... And by the time Crouse is quarantined, Barabanov's spot will be filled by Nylander once again.

Our top 12, in some kind of variation, is:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Galchenyuk-Tavares-Nylander
Thornton-Kerfoot-Spezza
Mikheyev-Engvall-Simmonds
Barabanov/Nash (LTIR)

If we are getting Crouse, he would have to replace a guy like Thornton, but there are much better options to do that and the Leafs may decide to keep Thornton in the lineup full time before eventually replacing him with Nash in the playoffs. Or if they do acquire someone at the TDL, it will be someone who moves the needle a lot more than Crouse.

I would’ve easily done a 5th for Merrill.

I have a suspicious feeling that Merrill ends up in MTL's top 6, so I don't think that fits for us. Merrill is a pure depth guy here.
