We are talking about defensemen.

I also don't see how he can't be trusted. Maybe he is not a top 4 defenseman on a contender anymore, but there are some teams (like Winnipeg) who have far less on their defenses than what Vatanen has to offer. Or if he clears and comes with retention, he would be a pretty good depth option for the Leafs considering he can play both sides and can slot in a variety of ways (and has handled large minutes in the past). Not something I think we explore personally, but you could do a lot worse.

What I was implying that back in the day you could have played him against 3rd or 4th liners and trust him not to get scored on

But now even third liners have scoring ability. So he really cannot be trusted in any zone against any line

My concern was that he is a RHD. Has he played a lot of the left side?

If so, he could replace Dermott and allow for Dermott to be moved for an upgrade at F? If you include Dermott in a Hall trade, maybe it lessens pick?

Are you saying he will be traded for ‘a lot less than a first’?

I am saying that if he is not, then that team overpaid and is taking a major risk. I don't care if another team decides to overpay. It just should not be the Leafs.

That first trade is repulsive.

He's played LD for most of his time in Jersey (remember they had Subban and Severson at RD), and quite a bit of time in Anaheim. Wouldn't be surprised if he has spent more time at LD than RD in his career now.

However, he can play both sides.

Mikheyev and Dermott are every day players. I wouldn't consider acquiring them big game hunting.

OK OK you guys are right, you're always right

lets just go out and get RNH and Larsson

or Lindholm and Hanifan

or Ekholm and Granlund

or Couturier and Sanheim

the Leafs need to fill two positions one up front and one more D

any of those adds would be great but nobody is trading those guys and the cost would be debilitating if anybody was

I’ve never believed players are scouted through listening to press conferences and watching Sports Desk.

I don't think it's about scouting, more about the perception of what the player is in the mind of the GM. These guys are humans after all, they're going to be influenced consciously or subconsciously by a lot different factors

I don't see why you're upset.

You were wrong. Just own it. The trade you suggested isn't big game hunting. Grow up, pal. The quicker you do, the more enjoyment you'll get out of life.

is this the same logic as assists don't matter?

Crouse or Thornton in your line-up? that moves the needle

depth and goaltending is the key to playoff success, you need both to be there at the end

Who would Crouse take out the lineup?

Menzinger has the right question.

Who are you taking out? Right now, it is looking like a guy who is a better player than Crouse.

Crouse is not a "depth" move. Arizona is competing and will want him in their lineup, and will value him as such. That does not make him a top 9 player, but we will likely be paying for him like he is. We have guys on our 4th line who are closer to top 9 players than he is.

As for depth/goaltending, somewhat of a fallacy if you think getting Crouse is the only way we can get the depth we need. There are a lot better options out there that will fill our needs.

Whose to say he's upset or wrong? I don't agree with him, but it's not something factual, just a guys opinion.

Edit: saying "Grow up, pal. The quicker you do, the more enjoyment you'll get out of life" sounds a little hypocritical

not upset dude just amused, adding 2 everyday players to your line-up is never a bad thing and it doesn't happen that often that you get them from the same place because it is hard, a trade in the cap world is even harder to make

Crouse is a decent player and maybe getting to play with decent players in a hockey atmosphere may help him to become the player he can be, not to mention the guy never takes a step back which bas we know the Leafs need more of

most of the folks around here don't watch Arizona play, TSN never covers them nor does Sportsnet, but yet everyone believes they "stink" because they don't make regular appearance's in the highlight reels
