I think it'll be a 3 man rotation to start next season. I agree with re-signing Bogosian. Dermott gone in expansion/trade. It shields them from both of them playing as rookies full time. But, at the same time the cream rises and by the playoffs I see them leaning more on the kids.I don't think you're going to see two rookies starting together on the same pairing. And I doubt either one of the rookies is able to start the season on the second pair. So I think they'll add one vet this off-season (ideally a resigned Bogo) with the intention of them being a starter
No doubt. It's more about do you want to commit 7+ million to a guy who sucks defensively.Well his raise is probably going to be less than Hyman's (or equivalent if Hyman takes a hometown discount). Rielly may take a cut to stay here too. He is the #1 on a really good team after all.
Either way, we are either paying a lot to keep Rielly, or paying a lot to replace him. We are not replacing Rielly with an ELC or bargain bin guy, and we probably can't replace him with a guy making less or even slightly more than what he is currently making. We are likely spending 6 mill at least to get a guy capable of playing 1D like he can, and I don't anticipate Rielly making more than 6.5 mill on his next deal.
I dont really see the comparison offensively. Zach has been significantly better offensively. Like twice as many paced goals/points sometimes.Lowry signing that extension playing a more critical position, centre and being younger really helps the Hyman negotiations.
5 years at 3.5M is looking pretty good. Also have the Laughton contract as well.
Lowry is basically Freddy Gauthier with double the ice time and better skating.. Definitely not a comparable for Hyman.Lowry signing that extension playing a more critical position, centre and being younger really helps the Hyman negotiations.

He fights and he's much more physical then Gauthier. If Gauthier fought and played physical he prob would be getting 2 million or better as a shut down 3rd line center.
Lowry averages just over 1 more hit per every 5 minutes of ice time than Gauthier and as the other poster mentioned he has just 1 fight this year. He also scores at about the same rate 5 on 5 when ice time is factored in.He fights and he's much more physical then Gauthier. Matt Martin has 1 fight also this season... what are you guys getting at?Lowry averages just over 1 more hit per every 5 minutes of ice time than Gauthier and as the other poster mentioned he has just 1 fight this year. He also scores at about the same rate 5 on 5 when ice time is factored in.
Fans of this team love guys that don't do much of anything as long as they have high hit totals.
Bennett doing alright in FloridaLooks like we chose the wrong approach. Should have gone skill and Ullmark
..... skill isn't the reason this team isn't winning.Looks like we chose the wrong approach. Should have gone skill and Ullmark
If this team needs a Hall-like skill addition, there are bigger problems. You don't pay 40 million to four skill players and still have to expend assets to make the offense work.Looks like we chose the wrong approach. Should have gone skill and Ullmark

No goalie has been able to make big moment saves at any point this season outside of Soup's 11 game run. That's basically it. Much like the last losing streak, they're losing winnable games where they outplay the opponent but don't get saves.
But.....the lack of physicality is a major problem and the trade somewhat addressed that. Both on the forecheck and territorially in the D-zone near the crease. Foligno will help the former, but the disappearance of physical play from the D (Muzzin, Bogo, Holl) is leading to second chances galore in the slot. That's a different discussion, but IMO the most concerning problem moving forward.
Ullmark would have been a slam dunk, but who knows what the ask was.
Foligno hasn't even played yet.... Think you're jumping the gun a bit there buddy. And you realize that Ullmark wasn't traded, right? No reason to believe that he was even available, let alone at a reasonable price.Looks like we chose the wrong approach. Should have gone skill and Ullmark

I'd sooner unload Marner... would get a better return, and recoup more $$Should the leafs fail to pass the first few rounds I expect Willys salary (with Kerfoot + Andersen) to be the first major piece on the chopping block.
Regardless if Dubas overpaid Marner, Matthews and Tavares he has show the ability to bring in guys to play with those top 2 lines.
Free agent forwards will look at the chance to play on either line and take a discount to come to Toronto especially the guys wanting to earn a big contract after getting more exposure in Toronto.
You can tell Gally "he you can go make 3-4 mil in another city and might not produce but stay here and make 2-3 and play with Willy and JT" Guys might take less to play on a good team.
