Going for the money if he goes there.

I have a hard time imagining winning isn’t part of the equation for him. If being close to Ottawa is important, we are the obvious place for him. That said, he’ll really have to take it on the chin on the contract side to make it work probably

Habs have 10 picks in first four rounds and want #2OA. They will have to be making moves at some point.

I can’t see any way Montreal ends up with the #2, except trade down, which they will not do. Montreal doesn’t strike me as a team that has anything Jersey would covet. At least not anything they’d be willing to part with

Quite possibly. Less of a risk for Ottawa in comparison to yesterday's rumoured trade with MTL though in that this would only cost them money/cap space. Not sure what will ultimately pan out, but it sounds as though they'd like to improve themselves sooner rather than later.

How about something involving the Senator's pick?

Rumours about Sens after Anderson and Dvorak?

So Sen's 7th. to Montreal
7th. + Montreal 26th. + Montreal 33rd. for 2nd.?

Loves it there, summers in Ottawa, wife is from there. Just built a house and evidently plans to live there post retirement.
I heard all of that but guys retire in their late 30s in hockey. Hopefully with some luck you have a long life after and you have plenty of time to have fun with your family etc.

So I just don't get at that stage why you would sign anywhere but with a winning team for a couple years to go for it.

NJ wants to move down to take a specific dman. If Habs can get #7OA, they can add to get #2OA.

This would make a lot of sense. The Leafs need to get an expiring contract that frees up money to re-sign Bunting next season. Having Tarasenko take up a good chunk of the cap and "holding" that cap space for Bunting (4M?) would be smart. Tarasenko augments the top 6, I'm not sure how he'd fit with Tavares though. Sandin gets a clear role in the top 6 as well which would solve that issue.

Here's a glimpse of what the roster could look like (Engvall probably makes less, Boosh makes more):

I don’t hate it. Muzzin for Tarasenko does seem to have some elements that could work for both sides, but if we move Muzzin I really feel like we need to add someone who then plays like him. Our defense simply doesn’t have a lot of what he brings.

I also don’t think that bottom 6 wins us anything. The whole 4th line needs to go.

Reimer is an ok target but after how things went down here I’d be shocked if he came back and he certainly wouldn’t be my first choice.

If we are adding another 7+ million dollar contract up front Mrazek simply has to go

Yeah I get that but he'll still have lots of time left for that.
Can't imagine he doesn't want a shot at a ring which he won't get there.

I highly doubt it personally. NJ had a top 2 pick in a draft that is considered to have a clear top 2 fall into their lap, I’d be shocked if they traded out of that spot for anything less than a huge overpayment.

And Toronto is a 50 minute flight away.

Seems like a perfect fit. Heck we can even give him a sb laden contract and agree to move him to ottawa if/when he wants.

If Habs take Wright, you can't pass on Slavkovsky who is the most NHL ready player in the draft. If they want a dman, I suggest they call up Kyle and ask about Sandy.

Or you take Logan Cooley, or a stud Dman......

A Tavares move would breathe fresh air into the whole build.
It seems like something has to give if they want to become a legit Cup contender. Otherwise they’ll have a lineup like above and will go into the season hoping they can find enough at the TDL to win a round.

The complete lack of activity around the league is pretty amazing so far. I don't know if it's just waiting for that first move, or if we just aren't going to see much for now. Looking forward to 7pm, and to see how the chips will fall.

This is typical pre draft quiet .. a few trades are the norm

It’ll never happen but I could see a team like LA actually having interest in Tavares and vice versa. Something along the lines of Arvidsson + Turcotte + 2023 1st
