This is the more realistic fallout of what could happen in Calgary and what I'd try to pounce on.

Hopefully sign him to something like the Garland contract (around 5×5)

He got absolutely abused by the Stars all series.

The Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators appear to be talking, and a few players of interest are forwards Josh Anderson and Christian Dvorak.

An NHL source has confirmed to Montreal Hockey Now that the Ottawa Senators have been open to trading their 1st round pick since about the midway point in the season. The sources have confirmed that the Senators are looking for an impact roster player that will help round out their forward ranks and provide experience to a very young core, and two Canadiens players are in their sights.

The source has also confirmed that the Canadiens and the Senators are in talks and that Josh Anderson is a player that is highly coveted by the Senators at this time.
With the Senators looking to bolster their top-6 and add some scoring punch and physical play; inserting a player like Anderson would go a long way in achieving that vision. The Senators’ brass got a firsthand view of what a player like Anderson could do at the World Championships this past spring and the Stanley Cup Finals in 2021 and would like to add that kind of player if they were to move the 7th overall in any package.

It also appears that Christian Dvorak has received some notable interest from the Senators as well, as the source indicates to Montreal Hockey now that the Senators’ pro scouts loved what they saw from Dvorak in the second half of the season.

With the 7th overall in play and the Montreal Canadiens doing everything they can to jump into the top-10 to snag another top prospect in the 2022 NHL Draft, this will be something to keep an eye on for the next 24 hours. It would be shocking to see a deal for the 7th overall pick be a one-for-one trade of assets, but it is seemingly looking like it would be the base of a trade package between both clubs at this junction.
Going from Trading nick Paul for the return they got because they didn’t wanna give him an extra few hundred grand to trading the 7th overall for Josh Anderson would be absolutely flipping hilarious

Then sign him or trade him. Not sure what both sides have to gain dragging this out.

Why are we doing him any favours? He can sit on his ass and get nothing for all I care

Let's actually use our leverage for a change and treat this guy like it's a business transaction

He's going to do what we want and that's that

Would Muzzin for Tarasenko work as a base for a deal? Blues were rumoured to be in on McDonaugh and it would leave them with enough cap space to still re-sign Perron.

We get a top 6 winger upgrade that hopefully bridges the gap to Knies next season.

The last thing we should be doing is allocating more money to forwards and less on defense. We want to attract a goalie in free agency, remember?

Our problem is that we can't score in game 7's, not that we can't defend.

You can move Kerfoot pretty easily to offset the cap and leave you with $7M to address the goalie situation without even considering Mrazek.

We need another forward that can score consistently and Tarasenko for a year would be great. Next year you let him walk and free up all that cap space.

can somebody help me, when i am logged in i cannot see the confirmed trades on the trade rumours and free agent forum..only when i am logged out

I would put it another way: we can't get any of our star forwards to dominate in game 7's like highly compensated superstar athletes are expected to do during their lengthy contracts. I don't think it's rocket science here. The theory behind the 3 decamillionaire forwards was that these types of talents are expected to be difference makers in big games. It's supposed to be difference maker times 3. So far none of them has done it even once in multiple opportunities.

That's why it's time for Plan B: get a stud goalie who is more likely to be the man in game 7's.

Would do that and then flip Nylander and Sandin in a pkg for a monster

Can the Leafs acquire enough assets, players and picks, in next eight to ten days to put themselves in a position to win a playoff round?

That’s what happen with negotiations some times. Like Nylander.

If they are far apart and Leafs let him sit until he breaks, you could have a disgruntled player on your hands, in which case I start shopping him. If a deal is immanent, then let it play out.

Like what else?

#2OA and #7OA are in play.

Habs trying to get #2OA.

Habs might try to get PLD.

Zona and maybe Wings glad to take cap dumps for picks.

You have the money for both, but who is the stud goalie and what do you give up for them? and what team is willing to trade one?

This would make a lot of sense. The Leafs need to get an expiring contract that frees up money to re-sign Bunting next season. Having Tarasenko take up a good chunk of the cap and "holding" that cap space for Bunting (4M?) would be smart. Tarasenko augments the top 6, I'm not sure how he'd fit with Tavares though. Sandin gets a clear role in the top 6 as well which would solve that issue.

Here's a glimpse of what the roster could look like (Engvall probably makes less, Boosh makes more):

The complete lack of activity around the league is pretty amazing so far. I don't know if it's just waiting for that first move, or if we just aren't going to see much for now. Looking forward to 7pm, and to see how the chips will fall.

Habs have 10 picks in first four rounds and want #2OA. They will have to be making moves at some point.
