Bruh Sandin when 88 and 16 were holding out and driving leaf fans crazy they were doing so as high 1st rounders who were quality 1st line or in marners case a star player

Sandin your a slightly worse player than Justin Holl right now

Take a bridge, play good hockey, beat out Muzzin or Giordano and then get a better deal on your next contract

Zach Hyman, Connor Brown, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson were better players/more important when they signed their deals and none of those guys gave us any issues on their 2nd deals

1.25-1.75 by 2 years is fair and should be what Sandin gets

I don't think he's worth much at all, to be honest.

Essentially a flat cap means space needs to be found somewhere.

There will always be a market for 20+ minute RD who can bring everything that Holl can bring. A 2nd round pick for a full year of him is excellent value for a lot of teams out there.

All we are going to have to do is see what guys like Manson will get in UFA.

The real question is that if we don't need to make room for Sandin or someone else who needs ice time, then what incentive do the Leafs, a competitive team who needs a guy like Holl for their own Cup run, have to move him? We are not going to get a ton of cap savings at that spot unless we are downgrading it, can find a young guy to fill the hole, or we get lucky on a bargain bin guy.

Praising the player but he also left out something important like bringing the player back.

I want him gone for a few reasons but I think there's a small chance they keep him while changing up Campbell for another option. If it doesn't work out, I think they'll just waive him and buy him out next off-season.

I just don't think they have any reason to attach an asset with him, so it's either a soft dump or just take the chance he'll bounce back.

So would you do Tavares to Ottawa or Buffalo with 50% retention?
Can we get a better than PPG Center for the $5.5M we free up? No?

Then absolutely not.

Yea if somebody wants to sign Rasmus to an offer sheet go right ahead lol

Sandin at $1.8M x 3 or give him the same deal as Lily, but I wouldn't offer a penny more.

As someone who lives in the Detroit area and would like to see the team get better I don't see why Yzerman wouldn't offer Sandin 4Mx5. He can very likely be a 4M player on Detroit's 2nd pair for the price of a 2nd. Toronto can't match unless they move Muzzin.

Why offer sheet? At this point I'm sure Dubas' would ship him to ya for a 2nd and let you guys negotiate something better than 4mil for a guy who is currently a 6-7 Dman who doesn't skate the greatest and makes some serious brain farts with the puck. The potential for top 4 is there for sure, but he's still young and is basically disgruntled cuz he can look at our lineup and see he's behind Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Giordano, Liljegren, and Holl for playing time. Don't see why Detroit would go all out like that.
Side note, says a lot to me about his personality that he doesn't think he can beat out an aging vet like Muzzin or Gio, and doesn't think he can play his right side to surpass his fellow swede Lilly, or a guy that his the scapegoat of the D in Holl. Instead of putting his head down and going to work, he's whining. I'd be happy to see him go at this point

As a Leafs fan I'd be disappointed if Dubas let Sandin go for a 2nd. I suppose I think more highly of the player than you.

I’d agree but you also can’t overpay him.
IMO he has to slot in under Lilligren or it’s an overpay. If he won’t take it, move on.

You for sure do. He was an end of the 1st round guy as is. Undersized, makes mental errors similar to Dermott, and isn't a great skater. And clearly has no interest in putting his head down and going to work to steal a job from anyone. Gio can play right side too if need be, if Sandin is scared of it. So he's got no faith in outplaying Lilly or Holl so he wants a clear path to big minutes that're unearned and or decent money above his comparables. Not worth the headache. Move along. Set the tone for up and coming kids that not everyone is going to get the Marner ot Nylander treatment.

Most of this is baseless.

I’d expect as the GM of a rebuilding team Yzerman may be hesitant to break the gentleman’s agreement (for lack of a better term) that seems to prevail over the (mostly) staid nhl hierarchy. As a guy who is likely going to have a ton of RFAs in the next few years he may want to be cautious over breaking the code in case it becomes a regular weapon at a time when his team is up against the cap. Maybe he’ll risk it but I doubt it if it’s a less than sure thing player like Sandin even if it’s only a 2nd
