Anyone who has had to be "the guy" on Arizona will have looked bad. It's a good contract, for a D who hasn't hit his prime yet. It's a chance that I'd take.

He's going into his 7th season with 337 games under his belt.

Leafs could re-sign Sandin to a 7 year $4mm per year deal and send him for Chychrun.

That way the Coyotes would have at least one defender under contract if they ever move to a NHL arena.

So if a player isn't under contract, they could sign him to a management position, pay his signing bonus for the off season, and then sign them to a players' contract prior to training camp if he resigned his position.

A Carson Soucy or Jonas Siegenthaler type. Cheaper to acquire, and decent enough with the puck to get the first pass out. Hard to play against.

That's a poor man's Muzzin I guess.

Not saying they wouldn't be good acquisitions. But Muzzin has proven himself at the top level against the top guys

Right now the Leafs need Rielly and Muzzin, plus have Giordano (+ Sandin).

I just don't see the purpose of expending tons of assets at LD when there are so many other areas that require attention first. Especially when the one being suggested isn't Rielly on offense or Muzzin on defense. $17 million on 3 LD is not ideal.

Hindsight is always 20-20 but those two were not exactly moving the needle in 2019. I was more bothered by the pick than the players. Clubs can only maximize their peak by dealing futures from time to time. A GM who doesn't do this sort of trade isn't doing his job.

Tbh I'm looking at using Sandin+ to upgrade our RD with a big, young player.

Or get a physical veteran Dman who can play the next 2-3 years while Liljegren develops and takes over.

Figured as much, I wouldn't want to trade premium assets when we won't be able to re-sign him, and I think that's the attitude our management now has as well. Love the player though.

While everyone was watching Severson cough up furballs, I noticed Siegenthaler's D play was positionally sound and he was always minding his gaps and engaging physically. Surprised me in a good way.
