Kerfoot isn't the best off the draw. But he's defensively responsible and a big part of our PK. I don't see him at 3C as the same problem you do I suppose
I'm not sure he is a center period. His value is really as a winger, and it is there but they don't need to spend $3.5M on 13 goals. I like him as a player and in a non capped out environment I would keep him around because he doesn't take nights off like some others, but he doesn't produce primary points (in the Leaf's scheme) and he is defensively okay but not shutdown good.

On a club with so little grit his salary could allow them to bring in a different look, rather than dumpster diving for aging vets willing to play for $1M per. 13 goals on 15:00+ TOI doesn't set the bar high. And he has 4 goals in 37 playoff games so not sure there is another gear there.

I actually think he might produce better numbers on another club with a bit bigger role but he maybe defers to much to the big shooters like Bozak did sometimes,

That’s fair. I’d take Engvall over Nuke and Iafallo at the time they signed those contracts.

I thought a minute about Nuke but i have always liked him. His stature his stride, his defence etc...

Iafallo remind me of tanner pearson a bit but with a touch more skill - two way ability and a bit more net presence

I still think we might regret this with a hobbled Muzzin and 38 Giordano as the only real options behind Rielly.

I love Kral but I figure he's 3rd pairing level.
That's a good point, maybe we sign a different 7th D like a R. Hagg or something.

According to 32 thoughts pod, it’s down to Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Colorado and Toronto for Fleury.

Pitt just re-signed DeSmith, and Friedman went on to say that it looks like Kuemper is going to stay In Colorado.

Leaves TOR and MIN as two spots for him, let’s hope it’s us.

I ran a Capfriendly with signing Middleton for 1.75M

Promoted Rossi

Demoted Addison

If they sign an extra F for 750k that results in about 4M to sign MAF

That would be on the high end of what Toronto would want to spend I think, preference is ideally 3M

He badddd

I would say get Gubrandson after the year he just had with Calgary....but then I remember that physical guys barely ever do good in the Leafs system for some reason.

So idk

Going after a bottom pairing dman after a career year in free agency is risky

With UFA so close to the draft it should be interesting to see how that affect GM’s willingness to move picks. They should have some good insights

Perhaps 47 commands more than I think. Question is are you wiiling to pay a bottom 6 winger who is not difficult to play against when your team needs to be more difficult to play against and the team has half its allocated to 4 forwards. It is clearly no IMO.

The goalie situation is starting to play out.
DeSmith resigning takes pitt out on MAF.
Friedman was saying looks like Kuemper is staying in COL.
if that happens Campbell seems likely to EDM or NJ with the other getting Husso.
Does that leave Toronto as the only viable spot for MAF?
Maybe Washington?

I don’t disagree. I also don’t think it’s possible to win with the big contracts at the top.

This is a screen capture from October 19 2021, 1 week after the season started

Half the teams in the league are carrying under 23
You do realize player on IR still count as rostered and against cap, only players on LTIR do you get a break from. SO go back and look again any team under 23 has that many and more depending on IR status as of capfreindly updating their site. Lmao

Lmao this guy is out to lunch

Explain to me why any team would carry a 23 man roster when cap space accumulates daily?

Yea, if Engvall ends up non-QOed and actually hits the open market, I think he ends up earning a deceptively high deal with teams now forced into a real bidding war.

Brings a lot of defensive value and on the verge of being a 40 PT guy - could be viewed as a guy with further room to break out.

I hope TOR can keep him for 2-3 years at closer to $2M, but I could see it being closer to $3M if he was a UFA (probably high two's on 2-3 year term).

It would probably be easier to sway Kaše back here as a UFA than it would be Engvall I would think.

Edit: I bet Engvall gets more as a UFA after a breakout year of sorts than he would be awarded in arbitration. I doubt he's back if he hits UFA status.

Can’t see MAF in Washington, he’s already rejected Edmonton. I think he would’ve come here if Kyle Davidson wasn’t a complete amateur end leaked trade details still being discussed, also asking for Knies in that trade was silly too and worthy of being rejected, but I doubt that ball gets rolling as far as it did negotiation wise if MAF wasn’t okay coming to begin with

Dudes going for like a 4th lol

Doubt McDavid liked playing with him, thus he's outta there

We need him on this team on a value deal.

Edmonton’s development staff doesn’t hold a candle to ours, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we turned him into a consistent 20g 50 point player.

$1000 that poster has no clue what you’re saying

Sometimes playing with the best players may not be the best fit

I think Puljujarvi is the exact high reward gamble Dubas should make this off-season.
I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing him in I just don’t think that he’s going to morph into some 20-50 guy

If Puljujarvi is really going to be traded for nothing too notable and they want some semblance of NHL-ready help, I'd try to approach the trade in a more unique way, which would essentially be a smaller and overall poor man's version of the 4-for-1 trade that got Trocheck to Carolina.

Something like:
Alex Steeves
Joey Anderson
Rights to Kristians Rubins

For

Rights to Jesse Puljujarvi

Three players that are somewhat on the verge of depth role and Steeves in particular could still end up better than pure depth (as could Anderson in the right spot)

Oilers fans for sure laugh, and I think this would be too good to be true if it did happen but who knows what they are truly being offered. TOR doesn't further dip into already diminished draft capital, which is a plus, but they'll have to add a few half way decent call up options in FA because this wipes a few of their better ones (pushes Holmberg/Abruzzese to the forefront)- I'd say it's easily a worthwhile gamble though if you'd even call it a gamble at such a low cost.

I'm opposed to dealing Steeves until we know what he really is at the NHL level

No, I could see Tavares being a better fit.

Puljujarvi skates okay, but he isn't fast, so not sure McDavid and he are compatible.
If Tavares stays in the middle I agree Puljujarvi would be a pretty good fit with him. If JT moves to the wing I think Pulju is better suited as a 3rd liner. It all depends what hes asking or in a contract.
