Might do a Tavares and take 9.5mx7 to play close to home.
That would make it even worse considering this conversation is about a comparison to Marner and home for Marner is Toronto. Also if you compare it to Tavares - Gaudreau outperformed Tavares in his RFA years and could get 1.5M less than Tavares 4 years later. That is a 2.3% cap hit difference or 1.9M on an 82.5M cap.

what happened with Colin White, I thought he was pretty solid, Maybe signing him cheap after a buyout and motivated would be intriguing

White had one good offensive season, his rookie season, where his primary line mates were Tkachuk and Stone. Since then, it's been all downhill. He doesn't PK, he's terrible at faceoffs, isn't big... I don't get the attraction to be honest, other than some people just remembering he had 40 points once, on the backs of his line mates.

Sandin for a young C prospect? Kupari from LA? Turcotte?

Yeah I think Kupari could be ok? Can't say I've seen him enough to have a good read how good he is or how they value him there.

Turcotte seems untouchable for a bit. 5th overall not long ago. Still waiver exempt. They can probably package him for a star-level player in the next year or so instead of a Sandin level player.

Kypreos reporting on his show today that he's hearing the Leafs plan is to run Mrazek as a starter to start the year and Woll/Kallgren as backup. His reporting is always iffy but someone feeds him info.
I highly doubt Dubas gambles his career on the worst goaltending duo in the league ... and saying that there are probably KHL and AHL teams with a better goaltending duo than that.

If that's our goaltending to start the year .... :help:

I still think we might regret this with a hobbled Muzzin and 38 Giordano as the only real options behind Rielly.

I love Kral but I figure he's 3rd pairing level.

He's a better offensive player, but he's not a centre. You put Kerfoot ahead of Kampf in the lineup, which indicates you think he's a better player. Seems pretty counterproductive to play a worse player more than a better player.
Not hopping in part way through a conversation would help. The original post was replying to a poster saying they'd prefer Kampf as a 4C and someone with more offence being at 3C. I said we could run Matthews, Tavares, Kerfoot, Kampf if need be since Kerfoot is a better offensive player. To which you just hopped in and said Kampf is a better Center, to which I wasn't arguing who was the better Center. Now you're saying Kerfoot isn't a C when he's played just as much of his career at C as he has wing. And was great at C centering Galchenyuk & Willy against the habs. So ya, if you want a more offensive C, Kerfoot at 3C and Kampf at 4C makes a lot of sense without changes

Would be all for taking a flyer on him. Still young and plays with good intensity. Worst case he's a good option to be 4C imo

You replied to my post that said we can't afford to add a 3rd line centre better than Kampf.

Kerftoot puts up more points as a complimentary winger. He's never been able to play centre in any kind of full time capacity.

So ya, if you want a more offensive C, Kerfoot at 3C and Kampf at 4C makes a lot of sense without changes

If you want a line that might score more but is worse overall...

Claude Giroux and the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Sportsnet 590 The Fan: Elliotte Friedman on the Real Kyper & Bourne show yesterday morning when asked if we’re going to hear more about Claude Giroux and the Toronto Maple Leafs. They love bringing in veterans like Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Jason Spezza. Why is Kypreos hearing more about Giroux and the Leafs?

Friedman:

“I wrote it just as, I think the way I phrased it as kind of a wild, out of nowhere prediction. I wouldn’t be surprised. If he hits the market I wouldn’t be surprised Nick if they called him and just said, ‘what would it take?’

Look, he’s building a home in Ottawa. He made it very clear last year at the deadline that he’d prefer to stay in the East. I think you hit on something there, he fits the profile of what they like to do, and he’s still a pretty good player.

To me, if they’re doing that, they’re making a big move somewhere else cause they need room to do it. But I think they’ll call him. I do.”

3 years x 5 mil?

It would certainly solve the lack of scoring issue we have had. I would look into it but not sure we can do it without some serious juggling.
