We probably should have accepted anything the Oilers were willing to give for Hyman last year. A late pick is better than absolutely nothing

Could be a good Amadio level player to sign.

Leafs have a hole on the fourth line center, so could be a player that competes for it.

Gaudette is a pure winger at this point. He doesn't have the faceoff ability nor the defensive acumen to be a center in the NHL.

That being said, the Leafs still need a few Seney-types to fill out the top of the Marlies, and there is potentially a job for him on an offensive bottom 6 line if he beats out some prospects. He could do a lot worse, since I doubt teams are going to offer him a guaranteed NHL job anywhere right now.

Depends. The Leafs are not exactly in dire need for late round picks (thanks to consistently finding guys like Douglas, Steeves, etc.), and it doesn't let other teams think we are just going to fold if they pressure us hard enough.

The 8th year was a lot more valuable to a cap strapped team like EDM more than a late round pick was valuable to us, and we weren't going to help out EDM for nothing.

In Campbell and Mikheyev's case, neither are getting 8 years so we will just move them to the highest bidder.

Nylander 34 goal scorer check
Disappears for too many games check
Doesnt play well with matthews check
Doesn’t play well with tavares check
Cant drive his own line check
Terrible defensively check
Isnt on the ice fir the last couple of minutes of the game when protecting a lead check

All the above are well known facts that cant be disputed
He has 19 points in the last 19 playoff games, he definitely shows up when needed. Also, he definitely can drive his own line, and he’s a neutral zone monster who excels at take aways.

Absolutely under no circumstance do you set a precedent for something if the price you’re receiving isn’t to your satisfaction.
Imagine the eye rolling and trolls in here if dubas had “reset the market” for players rights just like some say he did with RFA’s?
What Edmonton wanted was something not done before by a team in the league. Unless the price was worthwhile there’s no chance you go down that road.

Difference between Hyman and Mikheyev is that Edmonton wanted to go 8 years with Hyman. That's worth something.

Max term for Mikheyev is probably 5 years, so it's completely different.

You really need to look up the definition of the word ‘fact’. A few of these things aren’t even well supported opinions

Many here do.
Perhaps he's training to join the Dubas defenders club where facts aren't allowed to get in the way?

Edmonton wanted the Leafs to sign Hyman and trade him, not deal his UFA rights.

The situation was a bit different.

Weird take. Most of Dubas defenders are the ones who are factual. In fact, facts are what gave Dubas the “nerd” tag to begin with.

The gamble he took for a better pick was worth the risk, all he lost out on was a late round pick.

Doesn't signal that he'll just give in or be walked over, helps his reputation in future negotiations & deals, better bargaining power.

See you later Mik. Great speed. Spurts of being able to finish but usually a fail.

Guy thinks he's worth more than he really is and the Leafs were really good to him too.
I also think he was a fantastico guy for us mayne. He had the speed and his defensive oriented game was always spot on.... we needs humans like that. Now we have to fix it and get another fine guy back. Would prefer if that man would be a hard nose guy. We have so many millions of dollars tied to our star players, so its difficult to us for keep our other suckas. We might get some goons like reaves and rinaldo in. Cause we need hardness and edge.

You mean Kurt Sauer? Imagine having a senile old man in charge that is so out of touch he signs the wrong guy. I still can’t get over the fact this organization allowed that to happen.

Oh, yeah, yeah that's who I meant!

Or was it Randy Carlyle ... never can keep those two straight.

:wally:

many of those guys talk with what they see and cannot back up their findings with a shred of statistical evidence. Which is weird. but hey i guess to each their own.
