That's fair but they also faced 4th lines quite a bit and 3rd lines often. Wouldn't say it wasn't typical bottom 6 usage

Bottom 6's typically play other team's bottom 6's. If anything, they handled more responsibility than a typical bottom 6.

Why? Marchment is big but can't skate and rode a 20 game bender playing a top 6 role to what is sure to be a ridiculous contract this summer.

I think Kerfoot does get moved but we have internal options that would be better than investing in Marchment.
What? He put up 47 points in 54 games on the 3rd line. Where does this top 6 stuff come from? He averaged 14 minutes a night. He also brings something that no one on the Leafs has which is size and nastiness.

He also spent like 1/3rd of his time away from Kampf meaning mainly on the 4th line. Definitely not top 6 usage, or really middle 6 but some more defensive responsibilities than a normal bottom 6 player

The big question mark with Marchment is his ability to stay healthy. He misses big chunks of time to injury and probably will affect his value level moving forward. I think he's shown that he's skilled enough to be a competent forward in the NHL despite not being a great skater.

With that said, I think he's a good target in free agency. He loved Toronto as well. The Leafs have a need for that kind of player. It just all depends if he's willing to take a fair deal that fits Torontos cap or if he wants top dollar. He can probably get a desperate team to fork over Clarkson level money.

This is Marchment's biggest chance at a payday so it should be interesting to see what he does.

He has a career of 20 goals in 91 games and he's 27 years old.

Give him the Bunting deal, add a little for inflation.
Bunting had 11 goals in 26 games and was 25 years old.
Heck, give him a 3 year $3mm contract if he wants some term.

He played top 6 last year when he went on an early bender before being pretty much useless the rest of the time.

This year, he mostly played 3rd line, but he was playing with a bunch of different players, the top 6 guys included, with Reinhart and Lundell being the main guys.

Florida had a bunch of really mediocre guys have excellent seasons. They all pretty much turned into pumpkins in the playoffs though; Marchment was no different.

I think if he had 2 seasons with that production he could gun for a big pay day but with the 1 big season filled with injuries, I think it a few teams might be a little wary to go all out.

It's really hard to know what he'll get in free agency but I suspect it'll be around 4M over at least 3 years. I just don't think the Leafs will be able to sign him.

Based on Mirtle's comments earlier on the Leafs goaltending plan I think landing Varlamov and acquiring Blackwood for Campbell's rights would be a good reform on the goaltending.

Of course I don't know what Varly would cost but Lou is in a cap dilemma out there.

I just hope the Leafs can figure out the goaltending situation, and part of that is going to come from hiring a decent goalie coach.

They finished 4th in the league with bottom 10 goaltending. I really don't think there's a more obvious path to improving than sorting that out. It might take a big investment, but it would be worth it

other than that, they should look to shed some dead weight and bring up some prospects

He'd get more than the Bunting deal. Not taking a bet on his skating and overall skill set for the kind of deal he is going to get though.

Blackwood for Campbell's rights works for me.

If it's Varlamov, we're gonna need to send Muzzin the other way if we actually wanna do anything interesting to the rest of the roster.

MAF was apparently okay coming here from Chicago...if he was willing to come in at 2.5-3M, that is a hell of a mentor type for Blackwood.

Couldn't argue much with a player's negotiating rights returning anything NHL proven. Blackwood may not be the ultimate answer to the team's goaltending questions, but that trade would be something on its own merit.

Trading for the 2nd overall pick has zero effect on us competing now, if anything, it allows us to continue having a solid team for years to come. Example,

Trade Nylander for 2nd Overall (Cooley)
Sign one of Forsberg/Burakovsky/Nichuskin to replace Nylander on the 2nd line.
In 3 years when Tavares contract is over, you have Cooley to replace him at a fraction of the cost.
This isn’t NHL22. This kind of stuff rarely happens.

Also, you are unlikely to get a UFA that will be better than Nylander for less than his 6.9AAV

I don’t see MAF as a material upgrade on Soup.
The goaltending could go any number of ways, but I wouldn’t expect much improvement on this years overall numbers.
Maybe more evenly accumulated.
Any word on Mrazek’s health?
