Dubas is going to shove it down our throats are you are going to like it.
It's the most arrogant thing....while having accomplished absolutely nothing.

signing bonuses are paid tomorrow.

that means as of tomorrow:

Kerfoot is owed only $750k in real money for 1 year.
Muzzin is owed $6m in real money over 2 years.
Tavares is owed $17m in real money over 3 years.

Kerfoot also has a 10-team NTC list kick in tomorrow.

Contract language is July 1st, just because UFA is scheduled on July 13th, didn't change the bonus pay out day as far as I am aware.

20 games with .906% save percentage equates to a very good season for Murray? In that case, I'd hate to see what an average season looks like for him.
In all fairness, he was .915 heading into his last start where he was injured and subsequently torched. Ottawa cruelly left him in.

I dont think Kane would mind one bit to come and play with Matthews. They are close.

Sandin, Holl, Robertson and Kerfoot and 1st Round Pick for Kane (25% retained).

Kane's salary would come in at 7.25 million for 2 more seasons. Players going the other way would be around 5 million combined. For a 2.25 million hit on salary cap space I do it. And for 2.5m more I go out and sign Strome who Kane played with and Marner as well.

Strome-Matthews-Kane
Tavares-Nylander-Marner

That is a crazy top 6 that will outscore any defensive or goalie deficiencies. Exactly how Colorado just won the Cup!!!

Kane is a UFA after this year, not for two more seasons. That's far too much to pay for one season of Kane, whom we won't be able to afford after this year.

In addition, with a 15 man roster, we would only have $4.9 million left to sign a backup goalie, one roster D, and at least three roster forwards. You add Strome in there at $2.5 mil, and we have $2.4 mil to sign at least four players. The math simply doesn't work on this.

I don't think it'll be just a roll back... Not yet... It's still a long off season and as much as I am not a fan of the trade last night...I am now doing what every leaf fan should be doing praying to torturous hockey God's  Murray of the 16-17 season from now on and God like signings.

It turns out Ottawa had all the leverage.

They said no to 75% via 3way
They said no to 50%
They said no to 25% with a major sweetener

They shipped him at 25% for a 3rd, 7th

What happened?

We panic bought, simple as that. Dubas didn’t want to walk into July 13 with exposure in the goalie position on the depth chart whilst Campbell and Kuemper flew off the shelves so he made it happen. He wanted to avoid one media storm in all likelihood but created another.

But ask yourself what Ottawa would have done handcuffed on the Giroux front and missing out on all their free agent plans holding 3 goalies, the most expensive of which they viewed as a toxic asset?

Dubas is a GM who gave Mrazek a limited no trade and three years so the track record of his panic buying is well established.

Capfriendly showing July 1st as Jozay below mentioned, you seeing different info elsewhere?
Did you forget the Leafs had league bottom save percentage and still ended up as the best 'regular season' Leafs team ever?... or?

I know, playoffs.

Brutal isn't the word I'd describe that at all.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner and fantastic special teams which came courtesy of new assistant coaches.

I'll also say his Kampf signing was strong.

capfriendly still says july 1 fwiw

Though Kase was hardly a problem for the team. At least as a healthy roster player

I like Kase in theory....except in practicality he can't stay healthy, I would go for a more durable player.

For JT unfortunately real money doesn't mean much as he's considered a core player.

He's got the NMC so he's unlikely to be moved. We have him at 11M for the next three years sadly

Muzzin and kerfoot can be moved and their contracts are beneficial. Dubas can get good value out of them if he chooses too

JT we need to deliver in the playoffs to get value from. He's not being moved the next 3 years

Murray had a 915 save percentage before his last game against Arizona where he let in 8 goals… He wasn’t as bad as everyone thinks last year, in fact in some categories he did better than Campbell. I’d rather take a gamble on a previous two time Stanley cup champion who’s still only 28 years of age for the next two years oppose to locking in Campbell for the next 5 years at a cap hit 5+ million per year. Remember Campbell had one month where he was playing on another level that helped inflate his stats.

We’ll still need a solid backup and there’s plenty to choose from, Samsonov, Comrie, Holtby, etc.

Here’s the thing though. Murray is essentially a parlay bet on 1) quality of play 2) season long health and 3) opportunity cost on the UFA market so the odds of this move working out for Toronto need to cover a few factors. Also, you can think of Ottawa getting freed up to make additional upgrades as a possible butterfly effect on our season too. So it’s not that the trade can’t succeed. But many things have to line up.

pretty much everything was shifted.

last year's contracts don't even expire until today.

Thank you - Odd Capfriendly isn't updated, they're usually on point.

Good for Calgary .. They almost have to keep him after the season he had and the risks of losing Tkachuk. They basically enter rebuild from that.

I still have no idea why they chose not to negotiate in-season.
