Apparently Ottawa is pushing hard for Weegar and Giroux seems like a lock to go there on Wednesday as well. If that happens they will give us a run, they improved their team exponentially.
They are going to battle with us for one of the three top spots

If Weegar is available, we gotta be pushing for him.

Sandin + Holl/Kerfoot with ability to have a conversation about an extension?

There’s so many good free agent options and limited cap space for most teams. Only so many seats to be filled on the good ones.

If we can just convince one of the bigger names to take a discount, that would be awesome.

Gonna be hard to get Florida to trade him to Toronto but apparently the Sens were inquiring, so Florida might not care.

Weegar had a tough year defensively though, even if he put up career points. Similar to Severson really, someone you've said before you wouldn't want for free. A lot of errors defensively.

They are very tight to the cap. Sandin might be attractive to them, they don't really need RD, nor do they have cap space for Kerfoot. They are looking for cheap cap hits. Maybe even Anderson is attractive to them, or Malgin

Like Dubas or not, and I know many don't right now, but I will say his ability of finding efficient good role players at good prices is usually pretty good. I would bet that he'll be able to get one or two of those players again.

Mrazek and Ritchie were bad but those were probably his 2 worst UFA signings. Ritchie was able to salvage his season where Dubas/Leafs thought he'd be for us as well.

Ekblad was injured, and when he wasn't out, wasn't at his best. They played him as a top pairing D, often as a number one D, on a team with little defensive commitment. Put him on a second pairing, and he'll do very well.

His mobility isn't the best and putting him at LD with Ekblad can be tough...putting him back on his strong side full time and maybe if we play less run and gun, he can return to form.

He was used as a top pairing D after Ekblad's injury and I don't think he's meant to be "the guy".

It would make me feel better about moving Muzzin.

Yeah, it's tough out there.

Patrick Kane? They need to retain like 50% to get the contracts to align

Think we'd need to add a fair bit for the 50% retention

Doubt we'd be on Kanes list of teams he'd be fine with playing either

I dont think Kane would mind one bit to come and play with Matthews. They are close.

Sandin, Holl, Robertson and Kerfoot and 1st Round Pick for Kane (25% retained).

Kane's salary would come in at 7.25 million for 2 more seasons. Players going the other way would be around 5 million combined. For a 2.25 million hit on salary cap space I do it. And for 2.5m more I go out and sign Strome who Kane played with and Marner as well.

Strome-Matthews-Kane
Tavares-Nylander-Marner

That is a crazy top 6 that will outscore any defensive or goalie deficiencies. Exactly how Colorado just won the Cup!!!

I think if Dubas were to trade Kerfoot or Holl, it would been done at the draft. At this point, I see the rest of the roster filled out with Marlies or minimum cap hit signing.

We are basically hoping that Murray turns back the clock many years and we land the next Bunting.
Actually someone found a blurb in the "transition rules" that some bonuses that were due July 1st are pushed back to July 13th.

If so, now it makes perfect sense why Kerfoot hasn't been moved.

Not sure why the cut off is the draft. A lot of teams want to see what happens in free agency before moving on to alternative options.

Not sure the Leafs will get great full value for either player either way though, so expectations should be lowered a bit and no point in getting rid of 2 players paid accordingly.

i just hope we get value for kerf. He isn't a fit in our lineup but he def has value, 51 pts and 4 in 7 in the playoffs with pretty much no PP time. Kills pens well and can slide in anywhere. Hopefully he isn't traded like a cap dump.

Might be something that happens tonight or tomorrow if Kevin is reporting this.

I really like Kase, when he's healthy. I don't think you can even pay him what we did last year, given he's often not healthy. If he's willing to go down to $1mil, or less, sure, if not, we have to walk.

More options

there are a few names that could be very very sneaky good pickups. The one thing that we may have going for us is these fringe guys who bet on themselves and take cheap deals to play for the leafs vaunted offense which can then help them get larger deals. Dubas does have an eye for talent like this at least and he def has some intriguing options.

signing bonuses are paid tomorrow.

that means as of tomorrow:

Kerfoot is owed only $750k in real money for 1 year.
Muzzin is owed $6m in real money over 2 years.
Tavares is owed $17m in real money over 3 years.

Kerfoot also has a 10-team NTC list kick in tomorrow.
