They didn't get 7.9 in cap space. They got a pick and a prospect for Fiala.

If Leafs trade rights to Campbell to NJ and they sign him for $6mm Leafs don't get $6mm in cap space. They get a 4th. round pick or whatever he's worth.

But I guess what you're saying is they couldn't afford to keep him because of their Cap Issues.

Yep. The Wild have next to no room. They had to shed the salary this offseason.

It's funny, folks here always complain about the Leafs situation, but there are teams around the league with overwhelmingly worse situations

How many time did you see in your life a team came back of 3 goal in the last 8 or 4 in a period? If youre happy with a player playing trash 1st 50 and get a good last 10 minutes with a 3 goal game, fine for you but i prefer a guy who will work hard 60 with maybe less skilled. You will never win by staring to play with a 3 or 4 goal deficit, Never!!!

-Why tampa won 2 cup and reach a 3rd final in 3 year? Its not kucherov, stamkos, point or hedman the main reason is Vasilevskiy
-Why montreal reach stanley cup? Price
-Why vegas reach stanley cup in his 1st season? Fleury
-why pittsburgh won 2 back to back cup murray and fleury was very good
-Why blues won cups, Bunnington saved their season and was clutch on playoff. Was playing his best hockey a the right time.
- Washington : holtby was great on playoff before he started to decline pretty hard
Lak Quick was amaizing
Hawks : crawford was excellent

Without goalie making save and being clutch at the right time...its will be hard to win anything...youre better to have a hell of a team like avs this season if you hope win that way and i dont think leafs is even close to get avs D or same kind of depht...

Soni prefer bet on a #1 goalie than on a 4th foward...
No I prefer total points. That's it. And every single of your trades have us producing a whole lot of offense whilst getting dick all in return defensively. Trade a core for a core. And btw, let's not act as if gibson isn't more of a question mark than william given his last 3 years.

Pretty damn good deal for LA.. get a PPG player signed through his prime at a reasonable cap hit for a mid rounder and what appears to be a B prospect. He hasn’t produced in the playoffs yet but that could change with experience - look at Hyman.

Minny making the best of their terrible, self induced dead cap issue.

Can’t see Nylander’s value being much higher considering contract status and all. So if that’s all the return would be, I keep Nylander. Don’t trade him for the sake of it.

Probably a good comparable for a Nylander extension next season. Fiala is younger than Nylander would be at the start of his next contract (26 vs. 28) and the Leafs can go 8 years.

Malkin
Letang
DeSmith

While I think the Penguins can afford to re-sign them, you have to wonder if DeSmith wants to be a starter?

Are the Penguins willing to outbid teams for a back-up?

Yep. This is why I'm very conservative on trades.

The best player traded in the last 20 years was probably a Prime Joe Thornton who went on to win the Art Ross. What Boston got for him: Marco Sturm, Wayne Primeau and Brad Stuart. The cap makes it really hard to trade the best player and come out on top. This isn't the NBA.

Seems like most of those long backdiving contracts that the fans were screaming for the Leafs to sign have pretty much blown up in every team's faces except for the truly elite players.

In Minny's case, it cost them Fiala.

there is absolutely no way that fiala is better than nylander on this earth.

None. And certainly not in the playoffs. 15 in 35 don't lie.

Oh Sorry, i didn't take in consideration than looking his teammate making play or score a goal with less than 2 minute in a game leafs trailing by 3 erase the fact he was an handicap first 58 minutes!!!! Sorry my bad... # overrated
