A 3rd team would need to be involved but I would love to see Fiala brought in with whatever haul they could get for Nylander.

Hes a 4 C with Limited upside. Maybe he becomes a 3c one day but I doubt it. Sandin will be a top 4d more then likely in a year or two. You don't trade a potential 4d for a 4c with a moderate chance to be a 3c.

So Sandin at 22 has more projectable upside still, but McLeod at 23 does not? That's some strange thinking right there?

He's 57% on the draw, been used heavily on the defensive side, and frankly, with better wingers, I think he ends up being a 3C. He's physical, great on the PK and has good size to boot.

I mean his primary linemates included Jimmy Vesey last year, along with Bastian... you aren't going to get decent offensive results there.

Seeing Connor Brown pop up on trade lists... I'd love to see him back. That's a player that would go through a brick wall.
Always loved him, looks like with an increase in responsibility he has also been putting up some pretty great even strength/5 on 5 numbers the last couple years. Also a great penalty killer.

Wonder if the leafs circle back at the TDL as if Ottawa retains and the leafs are accuting cap space you could get it down to like a 1 million dollar cap hit

I'd love to see what Keefe could do with him because I think he could fit him in a better role than Babcock could.

I wonder if the Leafs could take on Colin White to buy him out for the Sens in a Connor Brown trade. Colin Whites buyout is until 2028 but only 875k per. The 3rd year of the buyout is actually a cap saving year. Seems unlikely for a lot of reasons but... could be a shrewd move.

What if we swap Mrazek with Driedger? Mrazek makes 3.8M per and Driedger makes 3.5M both for the next 2 years. Swap struggling goalies?

Good player, but to pay him $3.5 million, to put up 25-30 points here isn't worth it. He isn't going to get 20 minutes a game, and top power play time, like he does in Ottawa.
You think he would produce less than Engvall here? Idk I would imagine on the leafs third line (or 2nd if they shift him or Willy to LW) he would put up far more than 20 points. Plus he wasn't on Ottawa top PP unit and scored 9/39 points on the PP which isn't much. He is also an excellent defensive player with some pretty crazy defensive stats while in Toronto from what I recall.

Connor Brown is a personal favourite but he slots in on the 3rd line and he's too expensive for the 3rd line unless salary is retained.

Ya agreed Babcock using him purely defensively wasnt great for him game. Though I guess his production rate didn't really decrease much in Toronto, it was his ice time that plummeted. Guys like him are infectious energy wise and evidently many of the younger leafs/Marlies hung out at his house so is well liked.

Maybe if Ottawa retains a bunch on Brown as I can't see the leafs committed to dead cap for the next few years even if it is 875k

He can play on the 1st line with 16 and 34 as a bit smaller Hyman

Bunting drops to the second line increasing uts potency

Or play brown on line 2 and 88 as LW

Brown in a top 6 role with some time on PP2 is 45-50 point player. Doesn't need 20 mins a game but 16/17 will be fine of he's allowed to play with skilled players

His 5v5 PPG is lower than Engvall's... though not by a lot. That's with Brown playing primarily with Stutzle (then Norris and Tkachuck), while Engvall was with Kampf and Mik. Yes, he's an excellent defensive player, but I just don't think he'd get the same opportunities here... Honestly, I don't think he is $3.5 mil vs. $1.5 mil better than Engvall.

Yeah 6 years of dead cap space is probably too much even if it's under 1M. I think in a couple years though the cap jumps up a ton and it's probably not something that would be that bad.

A shame you can't trade dead cap space.

After seeing this Fiala trade, I wanna see Kerfoot, Niemela/Sandin and a 1st for JT Miller at 50% retention (then we start extension talks with him) so Tavares can move to the wing as he continues to decline.
