It’s unsettling how little chatter there is around moving Holl. I’m wondering if the Sandin situation is making Dubas hesitate moving him.

I legit want someone to come in with a 2 year 4M AAV average offer sheet for Sandin, just a 2nd rounder for him while absolutely screwing Dubas more on the cap.

This isn’t the draft to trade 1sts. Especially before knowing the position of the pick.

Doubtful Kerfoot gets a 1st, but a 2nd + is realistic
Maybe Dubas can target a 2024 1st instead. If Kapanen could get a 1st and Hallander (prospect drafted in the 2nd), Kerfoot who has C versatility should definitely get at least a future lotto protected 1st.

Engvall would be quite the asset if he could be moved to full-time 3C and Kampf slotting down to 4C. Can Engvall handle the workload?

Samsonov is the guy for me. Goalies typically hit their prime at his age and the guy not only has 1st round pedigree but numbers that were comparable to two of the best goalies in the league in Shesty and Sorokin in the KHL. He's played behind one of the worst team defenses in the league for the past few seasons so I'm hoping coming to a place that limits chances like we did last year could really jump start his game back to where his potential actually is. Something around Georgiev's deal could be amazing long-term and much less risk/no acquisition cost.

Kapanen's speed was a huge draw. He also still had RFA years ahead of him at that point. Kerfoot's qualities are more subtle aside from his low cash liability. Don't see Kerfoot returning a 1st regardless of protection tbh.

i might be in the minority, but I’m liking the depth chart. But I’m pretty pro-Marlie.
I’d like to see JT and WN split up, JT with NickRob and a FA RW/C (Giroux maybe? I think there’s a chance) and WN with Kampf/Engvall.
Reshape the 4th line with Anderson and Steeves in the mix, with any number of show-me/buriable guys.
Can still move Kerfoot when the music stops for some teams.
Really only need a top six’ish winger and a second goalie, plus the buriable competition.

Projecting Engvall to get 1.75Mx3 and Sandin to get 1.75Mx2, with Kallgren as the back up, I have the Leafs with 3.669M in cap space to sign 4 forwards - or an average of 916K per player.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - XXXXX
XXXXX - XXXXX - XXXXX
Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Gio - Liljegren
Sandin

Murray
Kallgren

Either some combination of Muzzin, Holl, Kerfoot are going to be moved, or we are F’d
I really think only one of Sandin/Muzzin will be on the roster. I don't think they will coexist. If Sandin is dealt I imagine it will be for a similar aged F (Hayton, Podkolzin?, Wahlstrom).

Kase is a UFA after no Q/O sent his way. Think leafs decided to move on from him

Think we'll look at a healthier player than Kase for the 3RW spot

We didn’t qualify Kase because of arbitration.

Theres still a chance they agree to a deal, likely after FA opens and Kase gets a gauge of the market.

He’s in the same spot as he was last year. So I imagine he wouldn’t mind signing with us again

Have to... no. Muzzin never was likely to move. Holl... maybe. Kerfoot, you can't replace him for the money we are spending on him now. Guys like him are going to get more like $4.5- 5 as UFA's now.

Can’t replace him? Can’t replace him???

What does Kerfoot actually DO? He’s not a great penalty killer. Doesn’t generate offence on the powerplay or 5v5. He’s small and undisciplined.

What would we be missing, other than a warm body, if he we were to move on from Kerfoot?

At least get a guy that has a role. Something to contribute other than work ethic.

Kase would be a pretty disappointment return with his durability, one of the unqualified RFAs even if slightly less productive would be good if they have a track record of being healthy.

ZAR, another goalie and Sandin/Engvall signings are all we have to look forward to.

Begrudging respect to Dubas, he just doesn't give a shit about fanbase pressure. He's not even going to trade Kerfoot.

I really don't think Dubas is going to trade Kerfoot. He always brings him up in conversation as a part of the core. The right and smart thing to do would be trade Holl, Kerfoot and Muzzin but he wont

If the Leafs go with Murray and Kallgren/Woll that would put them at about 6 million dollar cap for goalies plus a 3rd round pick.

Are the Leafs better off like that or spending 6 million on a combo on UFA’s or a mixture of UFA and trading for one of Blackwood/Reimer/Talbot?

It’s hard to say right now without knowing what the cost would be to acquire in a trade one of those guys.

The UFA market is very suspect with Sasmonov and whoever else you want to sign not named Kuemper or Campbell.

Martin Jones? Not a terrible year on the Flyers...previous starter experience. Holtby would have been fantastic.

I think if Dubas were to trade Kerfoot or Holl, it would been done at the draft. At this point, I see the rest of the roster filled out with Marlies or minimum cap hit signing.

We are basically hoping that Murray turns back the clock many years and we land the next Bunting.

Your Worst Nightmare
Engvall/Sandin = 3.5M
Good Backup (Samsonov) = 2.5M
4th Line C = 1M
Total = 7M

The Leafs would need to come up with another 700K somewhere to have a 12th forward on the roster using capfriendly. A trade almost needs to happen just to get the bare essentials done.

Gibson would have been same gamble for a much higher cost.
Actually, Leafs didn't pay anything for Murray.

They wouldn't have had their bonuses paid yet. No NTC either but I guess bonus paid is better for value than worrying about a 10 team NTC.
