This is a very questionable trade, particularly given what the team just endured with Mrazek who is another injury prone goaltender. If this move blows up that should be it for this management group.

Really poor job.

I had a feeling Dubas was trading at a disadvantage.

Just to add:

Couldn't Dubas have given Campbell 4.6 million?

I’m typically a fan of Dubas, but this was God awful. The type of move that warrants a press conference ASAP to explain what the hell he was thinking.

He is not having a good week. First he thinks Minten was worth 25 and being ecstatic when he was there at 38 when he is a guy who should have been taken in the 60's or 70's. Then this trade.

Like how did this trade take so long only for it to amount to this...

Well 6 million for another goalie, and a whole 4th line. I don't know how you manage to do that. That doesn't even factor in the Engvall and Sandin raises.
Alone, this trade is a fireable offense and makes it look like Dubas wants to be fired, but I guess we'll see how the team is in September

If I had to spitball, he probably wanted to flip the 3rd for another team to retain the rest, but no takers before free agency ?

Then don't do the deal until you can find it, or make Ottawa retain more. What leverage did they have? Move him to Edmonton?

The only thing I can think of is there is a backroom deal of some kind, and there will be something else. Otherwise, Dubas is somehow making worse moves with experience, and he is "learning" the wrong things. Not to mention continue to contradict the very plan which made him a good GM in the first place by making stupid moves.

Lmao he wont pay Campbell 5 mill so what makes you think he will get another goalie. Maybe a min salary type

Well, with a little time to digest this I'm still very disappointed that retention is anything other than 50 and really hate this trade. One possible silver lining is that you run it til Xmas if it goes bad Robidas him for a year and a half using his ltir at the deadline.
At least it's only 2 years. I did not like the idea at all of giving Jack term and 5. It may turn out great for the oilers but it also could go south and very quickly.

I imagine Kerfoot and Holl are getting moved out for more cap space.

There is also still the very distant possibility that there is more to this trade that may come later, but on the surface, this was arguably Dubas' worst trade outside of maybe the Foligno deal.

Seems like he gets worse with experience.
this is basically how i am viewing this as well.

were the signing bonuses paid out on July 1st or is it July 13th as that’s officially the start of the next season and free agent day.

I ask because I’m crossing my fingers that the Murray trade is a 2 part trade kind of like the Polak/Reiner to SJS 2 parter and the future considerations is a Kerfoot for stuff deal after his bonus is paid. Ottawa wanting to do the Murray part now while the buyout window is still open so they had a backup plan in case it fell apart
