Another important thing I am keeping tabs on are guys who could potentially fill out the Marlies top 4 RD. Duszak may or may not be non-tendered (and even if he is not, I can see him getting traded to get a chance elsewhere).

Nic Meloche was non-tendered by San Jose. Large, physical, still young... Not the best metrics but I think that could let him slip through waivers and he would be huge as a depth guy for the Leafs and as a top 4 RD for Kral on the Marlies.

We don't need LD but Mete, Clague, Capobianco, Dineen, Larsson, and Carlsson were all non-tendered. They should get some nice opportunities elsewhere.

Wow, Nikushkin getting $50 mil is quite the risk. No hometown discount there.

Leafs did not tender Rubins.

Before anyone sees this as a surprise, we have Kral, Dahlstrom, and Kokkonen at LD. All three are better than him, and Kokkonen/Kral have higher NHL upside (while Dahlstrom is a better LD option for Leafs depth). He would be a depth guy on the Marlies, and would have been a Group 6 UFA next year too.

With the caliber of LD hitting the open market, we can find an upgrade on him or we can open up a spot for a young depth guy with perhaps a little bit more upside. That could include 6'6" Kasper Larsen, who will be fighting for an AHL contract in development camp (that invite starts to make a lot more sense), or possibly a depth Growler like Hoefenmayer or Hellickson. Opens up a contract spot for us too, FWIW.

Larsen, specifically, is much like Rubins except even bigger and with much more offensive upside than Rubins ever had. Neither are particularly nasty though.

What's with the forward lines? Giant step back...

can easily circle back after seeing the field IMO.

Seems like the Leafs just found a great option for their goalie tandem.

Murray - Samsonov is risky, but that is a crap ton of upside for a low cost.

There is a lot of players not being qualified that are headscratchers. Anaheim isn't qualifying Milano. Would likely be a decent option for our 3rd line
