The only problem with malkin is you only get him for half a yearMalkin has always been complimentary when talking about us but unfortunately he's looking to get paid. Imagine putting him on the 2nd line.

Let's see... maybe he wants way too much money? The Campbell saga seems so unnecessarily dramatic. Why on earth did the organization let it fall apart like that.

can easily circle back after seeing the field IMO.Leafs did not tender Rubins.
Before anyone sees this as a surprise, we have Kral, Dahlstrom, and Kokkonen at LD. All three are better than him, and Kokkonen/Kral have higher NHL upside (while Dahlstrom is a better LD option for Leafs depth). He would be a depth guy on the Marlies, and would have been a Group 6 UFA next year too.
With the caliber of LD hitting the open market, we can find an upgrade on him or we can open up a spot for a young depth guy with perhaps a little bit more upside. That could include 6'6" Kasper Larsen, who will be fighting for an AHL contract in development camp (that invite starts to make a lot more sense), or possibly a depth Growler like Hoefenmayer or Hellickson. Opens up a contract spot for us too, FWIW.
Larsen, specifically, is much like Rubins except even bigger and with much more offensive upside than Rubins ever had. Neither are particularly nasty though.
Seems like the Leafs just found a great option for their goalie tandem.
Murray - Samsonov is risky, but that is a crap ton of upside for a low cost.
