Samsonov could be a gift that fell right into Dubas' lap.
yeah, but that makes it sound like luck. Isn't it starting to feel like "waiting out the goalie market" a little bit might have been a shrewd decision?

Who have we missed on? Husso for a draft pick and 3 x $4.75? Georgiev for multiple picks and 3 x $3.4? Vanacek? Fleury stayed put.

In this game of musical chairs it feels like their might be a few vacant seats for us to choose from when the music stops.

Keumper
Campbell
Samsonov
Murray
Talbot
Nedjelkovic
Blackwood

None of these seem like high acquisition costs at this point. Unless you really wanted Husso (at that price) it's hard to say Dubas misplayed this market so far.

Can see Malkin to NYR.

What do you guys like about Samsonov? His numbers are pretty bad. I think I'd like someone better in a tandem situation.

I would prefer Samsanov over Blackwood at this point. Both come with risks and might as well not give up any assets and sign Samsanov or give a very late pick for his rights and sign him tomorrow.

I thought Samsanov was very highly touted a few years ago??

Seems like every goalie available, either thru trade of free agent comes with some baggage.

Samsanov/Murray I would be good with depending on what is attached with Murray and how much is retained. I would be really nervous with Murray as a starter though but as a 1B I think he would be okay and nice bounce back potential.

Potentially but he needs to get the guys first. He'll get lots of praise if he pulls it off..

I agree. Seems like we will be just fine with any of those options. My top choices from your list to be honest are Nedjelkovic, Samsonov and Blackwood. Secondary option is Talbot if we have nothing left which is unlikely. Having a kid or two who may eventually be something might be the best thing we can do.

He’s Geno, but do you really give him an 8+ 35+ for at least two years when he’ll miss 30-50% of the games?

Samsonov, Dubas needs to get on that, five years younger than Jack and has huge potential and a capable floor.

Oilers brass will be all over Samsonov .. they got some new found money

Guess it depends on how many more years Malkin wants to play, but playing all those years and then changing jerseys never seems to be the right decision. Pretty sure Sindin said he wished he would've just retired opposed to going to Canucks. Toronto wasn't even his first team. This seems like Malkin just trying to get more money.

Friedman on the 32 thoughts Podcast:

”once the Leafs and Sens got close on this deal, the Leafs wanted to take a look at him, and i believe the Senators have allowed that to happen, so that’s what I think we are waiting for here - just to make sure there’s no medical issue”

As of 8pm Sunday night, Friedman isn’t sure of the logistics - how much Ottawa will retain, if there’s a sweetener, if there’s a third team, etc

Friedman also says Jack Campbell is “very expected” to sign with Edmonton, while the Washington Capitals are heavily expected to sign Darcy Kuemper

The Campbell saga seems so unnecessarily dramatic. Why on earth did the organization let it fall apart like that.

All of those options can blow up in your face one way or another.

The best you can do is try to maximize the upside while keep costs down.

Murray and Samsonov could realistically cost less than 6 mill combined as a tandem, and should not have a super long term commitment either. The upside is about as good as anyone on that list, as either are more than capable of emerging as full time starters, and while the injury/inconsistency risk is concerning, it is also what keeps the cost down. If one goes down, we are not left with a much more inferior option to take over either.

Talbot and Nedeljkovic don't do anything for me. They are way down the list for various reasons, and Blackwood is probably not available (I don't think he is any better than taking a swing at Samsonov for free anyways).

He doesn't want money....no way...😂
I'm definitely curiously who would Land him

I always forget Rangers are a factor and threats Tbh lol

You're not the only one - I got them at +2800 to win the cup next year, so the public in general is sleeping on them. Put Malkin on that team and imo they become the team to beat in the East.

Geno is going to be a fun one. Would be a great add in one area but his health history and age are sketchy. Some team will overpay.

Probably the Rangers.

Yea definitely and they can afford it to with the core they gave that makes it seems like a good combo. Too bad Panthers can't get it

I know he hasn't lived up to expectations but man

Holy.... I want the 13th 😂

Maybe the long medical evaluation of Murray was a blessing lol so we can be like will then... Samsonov
