Sounds like Samsonov could come in around 3M.

That would be through arbitration. That is why they non-tendered him. He wouldn't get that much in UFA. Arb will consider him "good" because of the games played (44) and the wins, but he is more likely going to get like a 2 x 2.5 mill deal in UFA.

Injuries have been a problem for him, he has struggled in North America (sub .900 in the AHL and only a little bit over .900 in the NHL), and he will need some major technical work. There is a lot of risk involved there, and Sanford will have a challenge on his hands.

If he can figure that out though, his athleticism and size is excellent. He has been very strong in the KHL and internationally. He has the profile that a great goalie coach, which hopefully Sanford is, can mold into a high caliber long term starter considering he is only 25. There is a reason he was drafted in the first round of a stacked draft.

It kind of blows my mind Samsonov was not qualified. The Leafs should be all over him.

With that said, he hasn't been that great in NA. But I think he's the perfect young and high upside goaltender they need to sign up.
100% he's worth the flyer at the right price. Wouldn't hesitate to do a 3x3 type of deal with him. Georgiev is a decent contract comparable. Washington clearly all in for Kuemper, and Edmonton clearly all in on Campbell. Get Samsonov and Murray at 50% and someone is bound to run with the ball you'd think. And only 6ish million invested in the net. 2 years down the road you can decide if Murray is the long-term option, or if Samsonov has been the #1 you just let Murray walk in free agency. A Samsonov-Murray tandem could be very strong. But Samsonov would be a great start for us on July 13th. Gotta think being a starter on a competitive team will be a draw for someone like him

Samsonov comes with the same risk as Murray (injuries/ poor performance) but is younger and could potentially come at a cheaper cap hit. hopefully we take a shot

The market is really bad for him so probably not. I think Buffalo could easily throw him that contract. I could see the Leafs offering what they were offering to Campbell. 2.75M cap hit for 2 years? Seems like a lot for a sub .905% goaltender, but you're paying for upside.

Samsonov didn't have that good of a year, so it's worth tempering expectations. Just look at his stats even at the AHL level and it's really not good. The only good year was his rookie season.

He's young though, has some talent and has been in the same organisation throughout his young career

He's a change of scenery candidate I'd be interested in

Would have cost Washington just a little over $2M to qualify him. That's what little they think of him and how weak the trade market for him was.
Or how high they thought of Kuemper and they plan to go all in and didn't wanna risk Samsonov getting granted 3mil + and handcuff themselves from going after what they view as a bigger fish.

In a matter of minutes, some options just opened up for Fubas. Samsanov is risky but huge potential as well. Milano would be a nice offensive option too

Danton Heinen was non-tendered by PIT.

No real excuse, between these guys and our prospects, to not have a fairly impressive bottom 6 next year without breaking the bank.

Simmonds and Clifford should not be anywhere in sight. I am kind of hoping we move Simmonds to a team like Detroit or Buffalo. Close enough to home but no longer in this organization.

Many options ranging from offense to speed to other elements. If I see us forcing any of those two still in the lineup, I will be livid

We're all suckers. They'll drag it out as long as they can.

Is there a limit to how many teams can be involved in a trade/how many teams can retain the salary of one player being traded?
Any given contract can only be retained upon twice, even if the first two retentions don't take it to max retention.

So we could get OTT to retain 50%, and then another team to retain 50% of what's left of that (leaving us with 25% hit), but we then couldn't get a third team to retain more. Nor, if we were to down the road move Murray's contract, could we retain anything
