I moved Holl for Blackwood, kerfoot for futures (I sent him to Seattle for the picks we traded them for Gio) and mrazek for a little bit of those futures. Georgiev I gave the rangers a 7th to execute the trade on CF, but I think he potentially goes unqualified. If you wanna give up a pick to secure him, go for it, that doesn’t really change the outlook of team or asset list too much.
The young guys are placeholders, there’s 4.4m in cap space subtract their salary and plug in whatever middle/bottom 6 rfa you want like Paul and or Perron. If you want both or more of a change dump Kase and or engvall and create that room.
Lots of flexibility and options, regardless what the Doomers yammer on endlessly here

I don't hate that goalie tandem that's a good young tandem.

I'm not sure about Robertson in the top 6 though, and I don't think Sandin signs for that

Sandin was a one year show me deal, he really needs to take the next step to full time player next year.
There’s 4.4m to upgrade whoever you like in the line up. You can replace Robertson with up to a 5m winger and give sandin a raise with the left over change.
It’s a 21 man roster with the 12th forward being one that probably is a young guy rotating in until one stands out (Steeves Anderson Robertson holmberg) who can be shuffled down to accrue cap for the TDL.
If you think anyones underpaid sign a 4m forward for L2 and spread the money around to whoever you think is shortchanged.
While typing this out two guys who come to mind to finish off this projected group would be to ditch Kase or engvall on L3, Robertson on L2 and bring in Paul and Palat.
Bunting Matthews Marner
Palat Tavares nylander
Paul kampf engvall/Kase
ZAR Helm ELC (Robertson Steeves holmberg Anderson etc)

If Chicago doesn't qualify him, I'd sign Kubalik

Random idea if the day - a swap based around Muzzin for Petry with retention. Maybe some things around it.

Leafs would take on an extra year but would balance the blue line while maintaining some veteran presence. Petry could be a better partner for Rielly or stabilizer for Sandin.

I wouldn't mind that. just think Montreal would prefer future's probably. Maybe like a 3 way trade could work?

Rielly Brodie
Giordano Liljegren
Sandin Petry

seems pretty solid to me

Awful

Did you ever watched Petry played to think he could be a good partner for rielly? Hes probably the worst partner option for rielly. A RD jake Gardiner... no thanks i keep muzzin...

There are a few focuses obviously but I think it's very important that an actual fourth line is built this year. Can't be throwing the fourth line into a blender every 2-3 weeks.

Guys like Lazar/Acciari/Helm/ZAR have been thrown around. Guy's that can actually play in the playoffs (unlike Simmonds).

Hoping they can add at least 2/3 of a 4th line and then you can rotate guys like Simmonds/Steeves/Anderson into that spot as you see fit.

The goalies didn't give them away, we had breakdowns.
Every team has breakdowns. The goalie's job is to prevent those breakdowns from ending up in the back of the net.
We don't need a superstar goalie, but one who can make big saves even when he isn't being tested for high durations or can step up and make a difficult save off a bad play from the skaters.
The most ironic thing is you're largely describing Mrazek.

Mrazek wasn't stopping anything this year. Terrible season and let in plenty of garbage goals

He was also bad in the playoffs with the hurricanes

He's not a guy we can rely on to make the big saves. We need to get a #1 goalie or one with #1 potential who can be a tandem at the minimum right away

Mrazek is a bad contract that needs to be moved. A 2nd round pick should be enough to move him like it was for Ritchie. We should pay that and get rid of him, use the cap to upgrade the goaltending position

I think we can all acknowledge the bad year he had, and I'd like to look for a more solid option for next year as well. That doesn't change that he's the style of goalie you described.

As I noted, he had a +0.9 GSAx in 7 playoff games in the 2 years prior to signing.

He had a .902 sv% in 18 games with the Canes. That is pretty abmysal

Also had -7.6 GSAA in those 18 games

He was bad in the playoffs. The Canes were a strong defensive team. So putting up those numbers aren't acceptable

I would like to seen nylander trade

Je make Matthews worst, make Jt worst (scored his 2 liwest number of goal since his rookie season), cant drive a line by hiemself. I dont think he making leafs a better team at 7M

Couple of target leafs can have

Patrick Kane
Jt miller
Bo horvat
David Pastrnak
Dylan larkin
Timo meier

Player on his last year of contract

Evander kane
Ondrej Palat
David Perron
Andrew Copp

Player sign can sign

Does trading Muzzin for futures and signing Manson make us a worse team?

If you had to choose between Kase and Kessel for 1-2 mill on a 1 year deal who would you choose? Trying to put a cap friendly together.

Save percentage can be misleading, especially if a team is good at limiting shots, but less good at limiting the quality of shots. Going strictly by save percentage, he's actually a better playoff goalie than regular season goalie over his career. He was -0.6 GSAx in those 18 playoff games, and +0.9 GSAx in the 7 playoff games he played in the 2 years prior to signing. It's nothing to be dancing with excitement about, but it's also not something to be significantly worried about when signing them as a tandem goalie.

31 year old hyper physical defender in the finals looking for a retirement contract. Sakic timed it perfectly but the next GM will be late to the party.

I'd love Manson but I don't think he wants to play in Canada.

Kessel over Kase 100%. I honestly believe Kessel has the potential for one last Pavelski level season (points) moving around top 6 / PP / third line here. Most likely can secure that second line spot full time. Hopefully it becomes "one last kessel level season" for old guys after that.

Nylander - Matthews - Marner
Bunting - Tavares - Domi
Engvall - Kampf - Kessel
ZAR - Lazar - Steeves/Simmonds/Anderson

Better or worse than last year?

Lazar sounds like he's a hot commodity according to early reports. One of the better 4th-line options available this offseason.

He might price out of our range, unfortunately.

Your focusing on 1 specific stat to make him look like a capable playoff goalie.

He was good for 1 run with the Canes, and that was 2020 before he got hurt. Had two bad years.

If he does play with the leafs in the playoffs and fails to be able to help us win a 1st round series it shouldn't be surprising.

He's a medicore goalie whose not really needed by the team. Better options available in F/A and we have the ability to move him for probably not much more than a 2nd or just buy him out if we needed

Going with a Mrazek + Comrie/Blackwood( some names mentioned here for guys who could tandem with Mrazek if we keep him) tandem next year isn't very confidence aspiring.

Dubas blockbuster this year should be a goalie.

A guy like Ulmark could be on the market and might be an option. Downside with him is its Boston so might have to pay more. Also he sucked in his first playoff outing so that's an issue, though he was good and reliable in the regular season

Fleury, Talbot from minny, Kuemper, Lehner, Saros (huge move don't know if they'd put him on the market but we should look at it) Gibson(at a 1st+ B prospect +mrazek type cost), Helly (premium will be required if he's on the market), Knight, Husso are options we should be looking at

A lot of the window lickers around here talked for years about how bad Liljegren is and now there is a thread on the mainboards from a poster of an opposing team with 12 pages discussing offer sheeting him for 4.2 x 3-5 years.
