Well if FLA is willing to eat 50% of Bob's cap hit, then I'd be all for it. I would just be stunned they'd want a significant downgrade in goal.
Weegar + Bob @50% for mrazek. They save $1.5m in net the next two seasons and give knight a guy who can step in.
We get a 2x vezina winner at 5maav. I still don’t know if I do it, but that would be my offer.
If they want Holl they can have him, I guess.
Still think I’d rather just let them chew on it than let them out of it.
It would just be leaf luck for mrazek to catch a heater and run the cats to the cup final after this deal tho.

I don't there's that kind of desperation to move Bobrovsky.

Plus in a Bobrovsky buyout vs 50% retention trade, the savings aren't huge. $1.75M. I think the maximum they'll retain is 30%.

The best bet is probably just signing Husso for around $3.5 mill on low term and acquiring a young backup with potential like Blackwood/Georgiev/Vanecek/Samsonov.

Leafs can’t afford to pay big money to non-elite goalies when Nylander/Marner/Matthews need new contracts in the next 2-3 years.

If Gibson can regain form he is probably the only elite goalie on the market but obviously it is a huge risk acquiring him and his contract.

I think the Leafs can fit in a $4-4.5 mill top-6 winger this way too without moving Kerfoot & Muzzin.

Blackwood is the target if those reports are true that he’s on the outs with the Devils.

Maybe you could try a swap for someone like Holl to fill the void left by Subban on their blue line.

I think he’s my top priority and the sign DeSmith as a backup for 2 years.
Holl for Blackwood then sign subban for 750k 😃
I think there’s a chance a guy like Georgiev goes unqualified as well. Blackwood/Georgiev two young fiery guys who will go balls out to keep the net when given the chance.

See my edit. I think he started high and eventually took what he could get and there was never any real discussions. I don't think he took the playoff off for an imaginary issue though.
I mean three different organizations have had the same frustration with him… that’s definitely a trend.

I can’t believe Torts somehow keeps getting a job.-
It wasn't long ago he made our coach look like a rookie, which you could say he was at the time.

Then again Dominique Ducharme made our coach look bad as well, so who knows what Torts can still bring, but love him or hate him, he's still a much better coach than Keefe

Duclair's out and I think they'll try and swap Montour for a more defensively reliable guy. Neither of whom is particularly useful to Toronto.

I'd give them Holl for the 2023 2nd. They can move Montour to get a pick back.

One small prediction I have at this point is that Rubins is going to end up signing overseas or be a trade throw-in, rather than on the roster as a 7th D like many have penciled in.

My main reason for this hunch is honestly just that it's a simple deal to get done and it isn't yet. Any other comparatively simple deal that was expected to happen already has like Hollowell, Woll, the Spezza decision, and even Gio to a lesser extent Duszak/Krys/Scott walk as RFAs but other contracts remaining are more UFA or NHL quality RFA based and not simple league min deals like Rubins would be

I think Dahlstrom sort of took the role he has internally (passable big depth LHD) and he has to be taken a back by even a guy like Sandin possibly on the outside of a regular role and the likes of Kral/Kokkonen pushing. It seems unlikely that Rubins really elevates from a sparingly used tweener, which is why he may just move on and find a nice role (more likely overseas).

I now fully expect to see a Leafs PR tweet announcing his extension within minutes after writing this.

I know it was reported that Fleury didn't want to get traded to Toronto at the deadline but that seems like a really simple way to kick the can down the road 1-2 years with a very good goalie.

It was reported the year before Brodie got signed by the Leafs that he had them on his no-trade list. A move mid-season is much harder than a move in the summer.

It hasn't really been talked about at all but we know the Leafs checked in on him mid-season.

I don’t think that was reported. I think that they talked trade but never agreed.

If it was a full no chance. Why would the discussions get to offers that were leaked?

Also I can totally see why if given the choice. Fleury wanted to finish the season in minny

Much closer to the family. No int borders. Knows Geron

That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t Sign in the summer when the family had a chance to move

I think he goes to pitt. But it’s not out of the question he comes s

It sounds like Hagel and Fleury was a real scenario for Toronto at the deadline so I'm guessing MAF was at least receptive to it. The more I think about fit, the more he kind of makes sense in the Giordano-Perry veteran add. Solves goaltending for 2 years and gives him a chance to play on a contender to close out his career.

If he's not re-signed by the Wild, I'm sure the Leafs will make a strong pitch for him. if he wants to play another season, hea probably thinking more about a potential cup than driving up his aav.

I'm guessing the Wild won't be able to sign him with their big Suter/Parise cap recapture coming up. Look for the Wild to cough up more goodies too.

20. Mackenzie Blackwood

Goaltender, New Jersey Devils

Age: 25

Stats: 25 GP, 9-10-4, 3.39 GAA, .892 Sv%

Contract: 1 more season, $2.8 million AAV

Scoop: It wasn’t long ago that Blackwood was considered the next hot, young netminder. He has the pedigree as a high second-round pick and his first 70 NHL games were excellent from 2018 to 2020. Blackwood struggled with a heel injury last season and his numbers have struggled for two seasons now. The sense is the Devils, who can ill afford another season with shoddy goaltending, have lost faith in Blackwood. He could be a great option for a bounce back campaign in tandem with a veteran on a strong team with limited salary cap resources.
