Engvall's success this year was finally finding his role. Keefe played him at center for the 2020-2021 and he was extremely inconsistent in that role. Simply sliding him to the wing and taking certain responsibilities away from him opened up his game. I liked that he tried to play physical for a few games in the playoffs, but its fairly obvious he's a super finesse player where he works well with his great puckhandling and speed for his side. That being side, I would walk away if that number gets too high. 1.75m is very fair.

While I’d like to try and get Sandin and Lily on cheap long term deals, cap wise for next year it’s not in the cards. A 1 year deal for both makes sense above League minimum.. 2 years would be ideal.

Nylander and Tavares aren't a natural fit.

When Matthews was out and Marner was playing with Tavares it was a nice refresher on what Tavares needs and hasn't gotten on the second line. Marner was the principle puck carrier and did a nice job running routes that bought Tavares time to catch up on the play, shrink the area of the attack down and set up little area plays closer to the net. Basically kill open ice.

On the other hand, Nylander wants to live off the rush/counter rush and had numerous breakaways in the playoffs to demonstrate this. Kerfoot can play that game but Tavares doesn't do well if it's a back and forth track meet.
Just about any combination of Matthews, Marner and Tavares is dangerous, because the three of them work well together. Nylander's the one who's style is different, and I seriously don't know why Keefe didn't experiment more with building a rush line with Nylander during the season.

The ducks and Gibson seem to be frustrated with each other. They don’t like his body language. He is fed up with losing. They think he will move but the cost/term is scary

Apparently Schieflenisna huge whiner and they have bent over backwards for him and he still is a baby. Not sure if he stays.

Not as blunt on helly but also apparently there is a lot of friction with him on the rom

Ducks obviously hold Gibson in high regard. But his term and contract given his last 3 years is a big gamble. So in terms of market value it takes a hit.

Interesting to hear about his body language. That shouldn’t scapegoat his play over the last 3 years but to me it seems like a change of scenery would reinvigorate him. That is intriguing.

Also Scheif seems like a locker room problem. Then again there are two sides to every story.

My guess is they've probably kicked around Mrazek for Murray, with Ottawa retaining salary so that its a cap neutral move for both teams.
Can't say I'd outright like such a move, but it sounds somewhat plausible. I just hope that Ottawa isn't looking for anything special due to the retention. Doesn't move the needle much in terms of a starter for the Leafs either.

Still terrible for the Leafs… it’s a lateral move with zero cap improvements. Both goalies carry big risks in terms of rebounding.

There was talk of Murray being bought out, I could see us grabbing him in that scenario...and still getting another good goalie.

I guess if you are taking a chance on a struggling guy doing better with a new team, he has actually won Cups. Gibson has not.

Cost will be lower and it is only a 2 year contract at a hit that, with retention, will allow us to get a better insurance option as a backup.
