Sandin + Knies + 2023 1st for Chychrun

Would you do it?
No way. Sandin isn't far away from being as valuable as Chychrun currently is, and Knies is an absolute deal breaker. We're weak at LW and Knies not only fits there but he also brings other elements this team is lacking , like being a shot creator off the wing that isn't Nylander, size and grit.

You would think Chychrun is this elite young no 1 d man or something with the trade proposals.

If Muzzin would be willing to waive for Florida there could be a 1 for 1 deal for Hornqvist.

Hornqvist was decent by the numbers this year although he was straddled to the 4th line. Florida need a LHD - that's why they gave up a 1st for Chiarot. Muzzin is better than Chiarot so in theory they should be interested. Cap is almost a wash with Florida taking on an extra year. Muzzin's deal ends just in time for Lundell to be paid.

Hornqvist slots in on an offensive 4th line or as a forechecker on a Tavares lead line. Sandin gets everyday minutes. Sign Brendan Smith as the 4th LD.

I would rather have Muzzin thank you.

I wouldn’t trade that package for Chychrun either but he and Sandin are not very similar at all.

I view him and Kase straight up as a pretty good base. Kase played 50+ games last season and Wood only played 3. Wood has a higher qualifying offer. So, the Devils could view him as the better asset.

I think I would try to sign him for around what Ritchie signed for. 2.5-2.75M, so about what he's making now for 2 years and if he reinjures himself they can just LTIR and try out someone new, same way they would if they re-signed Kase. But, I think worst case he signs for his qualifying offer for 1 year at 3.5M, I'm not sure how arbitration could elevate that number. Short term is probably the safest play for him. But, I think Wood and McLeod would add some spice to the bottom-6.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - Tavares - Trocheck
#2 Overall - McLeod - Engvall
Wood - Kampf - Acciari
ex. Simmonds

Kerfoot traded.

You want to pay a guy 2.5-2.75 to play on the fourth line?

Not a chance. If the Leafs are giving up that package I’d want a top 10 defenseman. Preferably right handed. Chychrun was not even a top 50 defenseman this year.

Edit: for that price you're looking at McAvoy or Ekblad.
If Bergeron retires and Pastrnak gets traded, Boston would be entering a full blown rebuild. I wonder if they would entertain that package for McAvoy.

LW#2 and LW#3 are on ELC's, so there is a bit of extra cash to flash. They also don't have any experience. I also think they could use more foot soldiers that can actually still play. I'd be willing to take the chance that he is that, even if he started on the 4th line. It would be a short term pact.

I think McAvoy is young enough to be part of the rebuild really. He's only 24. That's a player you keep, and build around.

If there's remotely a chance, you spend whatever assets necessary. He would be up there with Makar in terms of top 10 D in the league, he could absolutely guide us to a cup.

If they’re all in on trading Pasta then sure… but even if they trade Pasta it’s because of his contract status.

McAvoy is probably the most untouchable B signed long term, very little chance he’s dealt barring a massive overpay

I am simply saying value wise, not in terms of being the same player. They can both be valuable dmen in different ways. Sandin showed a lot of growth this past year and if not for injuries I think he was on track to establish himself more. The potential is there for him to be a pretty good top 4D, which at this point in time is what Chychrun is right now. Sandin is also two years younger.

If there's one thing we know for sure, it's that Boston NEVER trades young superstars.

There's not much I wouldn't trade on the Leafs for McAvoy.

My earlier suggestion of 88+Mrazek for Blackwood and #2 overall...

Followed up by 2nd overall, Sandin, Robertson, Hirvonen, 23 1st for McAvoy :)

Appreciate that buddy.

I’d keep 2oa and pick Cooley or slaf then use the cap savings from Willy and Pete to go shopping in ufa

Almost any other scenario I would say yes...but McAvoy is one of those top game controlling defenseman that almost never becomes available, I would move mountains for him.

When I made the suggestions the other day I actually thought to take Nemec and then use $$ to go shopping but if we're talking McAvoy, gotta jump on it if there's a sliver of a chance.

Guys like him just never really become available.

If they were to swing a move for 2nd they should be all over Nemec. Nemec is what this franchise has been looking for for a decade. A future right side of Nemec-Liljegren-Niemela will be just fine.
