Some insiders have hinted at things being weird within the team in Winnipeg this year, and there has been whispers maybe they start to unload and retool some of their guys like Wheeler and maybe even Scheifele. I wonder if management could get creative and throw the kitchen sink at Hellebuyck in the offseason. I know he hasn't had a stellar year by any means, but the guy has the talent and track record of a top 3 goalie in this league. Signed for 2 more years at $6.17 would mean the end of Campbell and Mrazek in town.

It would take a massive package for him that would hurt I think. 1st + Knies + Liljegren + ? Idk. It's so far out, who even knows what type of assets they'd be after.

I think there could definitely be something there with Mrazek+ for Varlamov.

I wouldnt even be surprised if @SeaOfBlue nearly nailed exactly what a deal could look like with Dermott, Duszak, and Abruzzese added on and filler coming back with Varlamov.

We really need someone to come in here and settle things down. If we weren't so desperate for that right now, I would consider Samsonov or Vejmelka as potentially worthwhile targets that could still have some room to grow. Varlamov definitely has the least risk of anyone reasonably available right now though.

Knees should be 100% off limits!!!

Goaltending was not the problem yesterday like most of the season. Yes Mrazek gave an awful goal (3rd) but how many goal he saved first 40minutes.

Its just an other defensive struggle and we blaming goalie because the team cant defend well at all.

Sandin, liljegren, holl and lyubushkin all are 3rd pair dman. Rielly is awful defensive side. With Muzzin out, right now the only top 4 dman defensive side of the puck is tj brodie. So if leafs add a top 4 dman and muzzin come back, unstead of 1 top 4 dman ( defensive side), you get 3. Its a very huge difference.

Goalies, even good ones, usually don't have that kind of cost .. And you never throw the kitchen sink for a goalie. They're too volatile.

I am convinced more than ever to not spend futures to help this team.

It couldn't fight itself out of a paper bag, let alone taking 4/7 vs a playoff team.

We only got 1 point against Arizona/Buffalo series, pathetic.

And yet we're something like 27-3-3 when we have over .880 SVP. I think a calculated, moderate move or two is completely acceptable and at least attempts to salvage what is another year of AM34's contract. Swapping backups with a small add on our side, ie a 3rd or a b-tier prospect (ie Duscak) then acquiring 50% retained Giordano for say Dermott, 2nd, 7th, would definitely have an immediate impact on this team. The rest is then truly up to Keefe and the players. The above also saves the top-end of our prospect pool - Knies, Neimela, Robertson, etc - for replacements over the next 2-3 seasons, and we have good Marlies callups in Anderson and Steeves who IMO could play regular NHL minutes next year in bottom 6 roles. .

I wouldn't want any major trades to be completed by a guy that probably shouldn't be managing this team in a matter of months.

IE. Trading our 1st.

Fair enough. I don't tend to make definitive statements but I would say I mostly agree with you on that. Exception being an under-27 top-6 or top-4 with reasonable term and hit, I think it may warrant that. There are very few names out there now in which that would be the case with.

If we had a lot of cap space to blow, then I would be on board with trying to address our goaltending woes, externally.

Thing is, goalies are a different animal and it would be a huge gamble to hope that whatever one we traded for, could right this ship. There aren’t a lot of options, and certainly none that are no-brainers.

I’m really hoping that Dubas can bring in a real solid top four dman with some real physicality to his game. After that, either another physical dman or a physical top six LW’er.

So fire him now and let Shanny take over. Standing pat all but guarantees a first round exit and the end of Kid Kyle.

I watch some podcast with Guy Boucher, he is a very interesting person. Something is telling all lot of time and its really true, youre always at 2 guy to being good or 2 guy to being bad.

Just put muzzin back and get a top 4 dman who can play defensive side like a manson, chiarot, giordano or whatever.

So unstead to get depht player like sandin holl, liljegren, dermott, lyubushkin in your top 4

If you get real top 4 player to play in your top and playing with 2 real good top 4 pair+ 3rd pair
rielly/brodie
Muzzin/chiarot or manson
Sandin-lyubushkin

Unstead of playing with 2 3rd pair and 1 good top 4 pair
Rielly/brodie
Sandin-holl
Dermott-lyubushkin

Or
Rielly-liljegren
Brodie-holl
Sandin-lyubushkin

With 2 average top 4 pair and a 3rd pairing

Thats change absolutly everything in the ice.

It’s sad but Craig Anderson is an upgrade on our current goaltending. There’s no way Dubas doesn’t acquire a goalie.

We're so cursed we could acquire primed Patrick Roy and he'd somehow forget how to make routine saves... or he'd pull a groin in his first game and be out for 6 months.

There's no way I would spend primed assets on a rental goaltender for this team... heck I wouldn't do it in general. No. Way. I'd rather sign and play Petruzzelli from the Growlers before I did that.

It's crazy this organization hasn't had an airtight goaltender since Belfour.
I think we upgrade D and hope to give up less chances overall, maybe Campbell gives us at least average goaltending once he returns. There's just no clear upgrade available out there that won't cost a fortune. Maybe Varlamov but even then I don't see NYI doing us any favours.

Andy was great under Babcock except for choking in game #7s. If Soup and Mrazek can't get it together our goaltending is not only going to kill us this year, it will also kill us next year unless our GM can find a diamond in the rough like a Bunting. Trouble is goaltending seems to be Dubas' achilles heal. Sparks, Pickard, Hutch, Soup, Rittich, Anderseven, Mrazek.

Best thing Dubas can do at this point is pull a Masai and trade one of the big 4 for a star goalie or Star Dman... Can he do it? Does he have the cahones to do it?

The right defenseman hasn't emerged this season, maybe in the off-season we see someone become available to go all out for.

Dubas fail every goalie decision he ever make but its a goalie problem not management problem eh. Made team soft puffs now make them weak in net too what's next. Don't make trade for one year player. Sell kerfoot and guys high and keep build from learn from mistakes in past , if still here next year.

Exactly. Takes 2 to trade. Ditto goaltenders - doesn't seem to be any 1A candidates who are available - teams tend to develop within and hold onto them when they have them.
